If you're looking for Bodyshop alternatives

I thought it might be good to have a thread for alternatives for those who have ditched the BS.

Even better if we could recommend small independent businesses.

I loved their Chamomile cleansing butter/balm so need to find a replacement if anyone has any ideas.

I used a shampoo bar this morning, I think I'm a convert. Easy to use, nice lather my hair feels really soft and has kept the coconutty scent.

Apparently savers do a ginger shampoo that has really good reviews.

I switched to Elemis, Lush and Aveeno.

I really like lotions from The Highland Soap Company. They all smell fabulous. The soaps are great as well.

AsCoolAsLangCleg · 18/06/2020 19:36

Elemis cleansing balm or The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser are both miles better than BS Chamomile. I will miss Vitamin E Cream though, my favourite for three decades, and the occasional spritz of White Musk.

AsCoolAsLangCleg · 18/06/2020 19:39

SoaperDuper shower gels are lovely.

MrsKingfisher · 18/06/2020 20:11

Alyssa Ashley Musk is nice, Highland Soap Company looks lovely.

There is a very similar ( possibly the same) bottle of ginger shampoo in B and M. My DD was getting a very flaky scalp. Originally had the BS ginger shampoo but swapped to this after seeing it recommended and it's been great for her scalp. Will be buying it again.

acatcalledjohn · 19/06/2020 08:47

I'd love to find a good mattifying primer like Instablur. I have some Benefit porefessional which is ok, but not worth the extortionate price tag IMHO.

Any recommendations gratefully received.

Upthread I've seen mentions of MooGoo and can recommend their shampoo.

For those with eczema who like the hemp hand cream, Child's Farm baby moisturiser is very good. And only £4.

kojolo · 19/06/2020 08:55

I do like the hair stuff from Yorkshire Soap: yorkshiresoap.co.uk/bath-bodycare/hair . I have a Friendly Soap shampoo bar I'm using up but I am going back to Yorkshire Soap after - FS is fine but I do prefer the YS scents. (Friendly is a town in Yorkshire so it's only Yorkshire-based surfactants for me, apparently! Grin )

I've gone off their hand cream, though. Not sure why. Just started feeling weird. Maybe I used it too much - my skin randomly revolts against anything I use for too long.

nicky7654 · 19/06/2020 08:59

What have I missed? Why are people not going to use Body Shop Products now?

acatcalledjohn · 19/06/2020 09:33

All of 16 posts above yours, and you'll have your answer.

runningon · 19/06/2020 09:34

Lush are to be avoided too.
Unfortunately I never buy anything from BS or Ludh so they won't miss my money.

nicky7654 · 19/06/2020 13:50

I haven't read anything about Body Shop and I take it you refuse to answer me but instead prefer to be blunt and rude. I often read rudeness from MNs and think it is the norm for this website. If it makes you feel superior then fine. No problem! If anybody would like to answer my question without being rude that would be appreciated.

Rushhomeroad · 19/06/2020 14:01

Body Shop have joined in calling women menstruaters, as certain elements are using 'women' to include anyone who self defines as a woman. JK Rowling tried to stand up for women not having to lose the name 'woman' when we haven't been asked or given any power to say no. Body Shop attacked JKR and insist we are now menstruaters. People are boycotting them to demonstrate that woman should continue to be defined as adult human female, and be able to protect safe spaces, such as toilets, changing rooms, prisons and sports.

LOLeater · 19/06/2020 14:01

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness

@sousone JKR recently disclosed that she had previously been the victim of physical & sexual abuse in a relationship; the BS response was to send her a bath bomb & tell her she should read more about the disprivilege of trans women.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 19/06/2020 15:41

Thinking about that, sending a bomb of any sort when you are trying to silence someone is a pretty damn threatening message.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/06/2020 20:50

Seems M&S has been forgiven then for allowing anyone who Self ID as a woman to use the Womn's Changing Rooms ...........

Hmm
shoehoard · 19/06/2020 21:01

I love Ucradle vegan shampoo bars 😍

Cismyfatarse1 · 19/06/2020 21:03

Not forgiven here. Long memory.

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 19/06/2020 22:10

In addition, @nicky7654, there’s this gem. Screenshot from either yesterday or the day before. The BS have evidently cottoned on now, as they’ve changed it. They also have no female board members.

I've also looked at the Faith In Nature Twitter feed. They've (wisely, IMO) chosen not to get involved in any debate around the controversy. But I do like their products. Very ethical, environmentally speaking, minimal packaging or unpleasant chemicals. Not tested on animals, which is also important to me - I'm transitioning ATM myself - back to vegetarianism. Another reason to boycott BS. Again, the Friendly Soap products are also excellent in all those criteria. Both ranges also have the bonus of smelling nice.

FirstClassFlightHome · 19/06/2020 22:18

samanthasona.com/

This brand. Very ethical, don't use palm oil or test on animals. Lovely products, particularly their tanning lotion and Vitamin C Kakadu Plum serum.

RJnomore1 · 19/06/2020 22:23

I have a quandary. I have a BS gift card.

I’m better using it I think as otherwise they get the money anyway?
