I'm really hoping she'll reconsider.

I too missed saying goodbye to QueenoftheAndals and thanking her for all the great threads and her input and wishing her well with her wedding.
I hope she comes back.

I also love the blue of the altuzurra dress. My elder son is getting married next summer and that's the shade of blue I have in mind for my outfit. I also like the pretty scalloped edge on Kate's white zoom meeting top.

On 3rd June 1937 the Duke of Windsor married Wallis Simpson at a Château not far from Tours, loaned to them by an American industrialist.

Wallis wore a silk crepe long sleeved jacket and fitted skirt, designed by Mainbocher, an American firm with a Paris atelier. Her outfit was in a soft powder blue, created by Mainbocher for her, called Wallis blue and said to match her eyes. Her hat with a tulle veil, gloves and shoes were all in the same colour.

Major ‘Fruity‘ Metcalfe was the best man, and no one from the Duke’s family attended his wedding.

Thanks for that reminder @AdaColeman. Wallis Simpson, whatever her faults, was certainly very elegant.

In Googling images of her wedding dress I was interested to see the pictures put together on the What Kate Wore blog that suggest a likeness between WS's wedding dress and the one Kate wore to Pippa's wedding (which I know got a big thumbs down from this thread!).

MotherOfPearl. I hadn't realised before how similar it was to Wallace Simpson's dress.

It got a huge thumbs down from me - both the colour and the style - in my head it's the 'droopy boobs' dress.

It is similar, hadn't noticed that before. I don't think the DoC's posture is great which doesn't help when wearing that style of outfit.

I also refer to that Kate dress as the droopy boob one 🙈

It is similar, but the additional tailoring on Wallis' dress makes a huge difference. Especially as the combination of the v neck and weird seams make Catherine's breasts the focus, and not in a good way.

I stand by my assertion that it is her worst, least flattering outfit to a wedding. She's worn plenty of outfits Iv'e found boring or pointless or just a bit off to weddings, but this one took the cake.

I think the colour of the dress matched the sashes that the bridesmaids wore with their dresses.

Oh I agree that it's not a flattering cut on Kate at all. Not nearly enough structure.

In other news, very tangentially related, it's my birthday today and DP got me the Soru jewellery ruby drop earrings, "as seen on the DoC". I did have to drop some heavy hints! I hope I'm not turning into a RepliKate.

@MotherofPearl Thanks for posting one of the Windsor's wedding photographs, well done on finding one where they are both smiling! Cecil Beaton was the photographer, he was THE society photographer of the time.

Just going back to the 'droopy boob dress', I think DoC isn't endowed enough to suit the v neck style. Maybe a round neckline would have been better on that dress? 🤔

Yes I think that neckline would suit a curvier, bustier figure. I did quite like the blush colour, though I'm not sure it suited her especially.

I thought she was really dressing to be in the background that day.

Thisenglishlife, thank you for the link to the Wallis dress. Absolutely up my street! I'm very tempted, but I have no reason to get it since the wedding we were supposed to attend later this month has had to be postponed.

I love those earrings, they have another pair of Ruby earrings I like as well (pictured).

In terms of the 'droopy breasts' effect dress, the whole top half sucks. The sleeves, the middle bit (almost creates a jelly belly look), the chest area and the peplum.
*(which she doesn't have!)

Pippa got the better deal as a bridesmaid!

I have included a similar pale V neck peplum outfit, also by McQueen. It's a much better look in comparison.

What is going on with the Wessex trust?
The Earl and Countess of Wessex Charitable Trust will not be publishing an annual reports for the 3rd year in a row, as they received only £770 in income this year ($960 USD or 860 Euro). And had expenses of £154,431.

To clarify, the Wessexes didn’t do any fundraising last year for their foundation. & the expenses [were] grants to charities, that were paid from the foundation’s reserves.

The foundation was set up ahead of the couple’s wedding 20 years ago.

The Earl & Countess of Wessex Charitiable Trust is currently in its own transition. The trust’s name was changed last year from The Wessex Youth Trust, back to the Trust’s old name. The Trust’s website was shutdown last year and the offices moved from Norwich to London.
