Ooh I've just read back! @EllaPaella that occurred to me instantly! At Christmas (?) there was a particularly nasty poster suggesting we were all paid. It's crazy because whilst obviously many people love Hush and it's ( published) ethos, an equal number think it's shite. I have far too much from there but I send back as much as I keep. As for influencers @Judystilldreamsofhorses, do you think they are on their way out? My pink Levi's are directly down to dresslikeamum who was wearing them Tuesday and I clicked through to find they were £115 therefore totally out of my reach but two minutes later I found them 50% off at liberty. I like tons of the clothes dresslikeamum wears even though she's half my age and clearly loaded or given a lot of stuff but usually I can't afford what she wears ( H&M & M&S the exception). I look at the influencers for inspiration to think of ways to wear stuff I have or if say I need a new pair of trainers to see what's around because all my shopping is online as I'm stuck at home 98% of the time. Without influencers I'd be less excited about clothes. I get irritated at some of them because they never seem to wear the same thing twice and I don't like that ethos but they are making a living so I cannot blame them. If you are on this thread I would say just ignore the haters, they are small minded. I like the atmosphere on here and the supportive nature of the posts. MN used to be very fierce in removing blatant advertising posts didn't they?

OublietteBravo · 12/06/2020 08:45

Oh no @Sooverthemill - how frustrating.

I just realised that I got carried away and completely forgot to post a picture of my outfit (or even mention it). I’ve gone for comfort. The trousers are silk and have an elasticated waist - so it’s like wearing pyjamas Grin. I think the jumper is going into the charity shop bag - the sun is out so I hope I won’t need to wear I all day.

Jumper: Gap
Top: Primark
Trousers: Jigsaw
Trainers: Phase Eight

Wow interesting reading. I’ll be a plant if any of the companies want to send me free clothes 🤣🤣

Today hush star jeans and T-shirt. Just comfort. One of those days. I am so glad that it is Friday. @KiteflyingKat my jeans are also slightly more fitted than they were. They used to be far to big 🤦‍♀️

@bravo my DH comes from an R&D background.

@Softpebbles - my DH has an R&D background too (I met him when I was doing my PhD - he worked in a different lab in the same department). He now works in marketing (different company to me). His job is to step in and say “woah - I don’t think that is technically feasible.” Or at least I think that’s what he does!

OublietteBravo · 12/06/2020 08:59

Surely everyone has put on half a stone in lockdown? I know I have...

OublietteBravo · 12/06/2020 09:05

@Sickoffamilydrama - I think the dress would look better with a belt. It’s a nice colour.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/06/2020 09:50

@Sooverthemill I think people are much more savvy about influencers now. The ASA regulations tightened up in late 2018, and they had to declare what was a commercial partnership - until then they were seen a bit like helpful pals. Now they are no different to seeing an ad in Vogue magazine, and some of the stuff that gets plugged makes me laugh. Obviously not all of them, and I think where it works is seeing clothes on a "real person" rather than a model - but I think the landscape is changing and the bubble is bursting.

happytobemrsg · 12/06/2020 09:51

All this is so interesting! I have no idea about marketing but I do follow does my bum look 40 on Instagram & because of her I discovered Alighieri jewellery. I love her style. I never followed particular celebrities. I do look on mn for recommendations a lot so I can see how plants could work. I’ve never heard of sezanne before this thread & now it’s another bra d I covert but cannot afford 😅

@Sooverthemill love the levis!!

Thats rubbish about your daughters care. I noticed inconsistencies in care with nhs with my sons injury. At hospital the staff had PPE when we were being processed and triaged thought very chill, then once in A&E some had masks some not. When we went to the local clinic to have his stitches removed everyone including reception staff were in full PPE and the kids where told they need to have their hands in their pockets all the time and not touch anything I was asked to only touch the chair I was sitting on. They also didn't allow us to wait inside either. I wonder why it's so different.

happytobemrsg · 12/06/2020 09:53

Seeing things on a real person is definitely helpful @Judystilldreamsofhorses. That’s why I like the model photos on L&Y although I/they still seem to get the sizing wrong sometimes

I'm off to check the marketing thread. Even if someone was paid I wouldn't mind I love dungarees but but boobs waist bum ratio makes it hard for me to find a pair that work for me I've never heard of Lucy & yak so it's been great to find something new to try.

I think if your on the style board your here partly to find inspiration and new things.

My kids wear George and F&F just incase they need any influencers would save me a fortune Grin

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/06/2020 10:00

@happytobemrsg - I stopped following DMBL40 when those regulations changed and it turned out she was off on all sorts of freebie cruises and the like, and had been passing them off as "oh, I'm just on a wee trip". She is now absolutely 100% transparent.

Shadeslayer · 12/06/2020 10:07

I can't find the thread help!

happytobemrsg · 12/06/2020 10:11

Oh yes that cruise! I watch her much less than I used to @Judystilldreamsofhorses because I prefer the “try ons” & I love a midi dress 😂

Here it is @Shadeslayer:

I’m defiantly wearing some L&Y today (really, I decided I was going to wear these yesterday & I can’t be bothered to think of something else). Wearing the brightest top I own!

Top: M&S
Dungarees: Lucy & Yak
Necklace: Mint Velvet

Oh I LOVE does my bum! She makes me laugh. Of course she gets freebies, god how I wish I had freebies but I'm intelligent enough to know that and now they have to be transparent it doesn't bother me. As she says and midlifechic, this is their JOB! When I worked I got paid. As long as they don't pretend I don't care. I also read magazine and while I flick past the adverts obviously I read the editorials which are basically big adverts, I did complain to RED once when they suggested a must buy watch that was £11 k plus and was interested at the thoughtful answer. But I've subscribed to RED since it started.

Shadeslayer · 12/06/2020 10:24

Lucy & Yak, well I was surprised to see them mentioned so much on here, mainly because my 23 year old & 20 year old wear them!

Fuck need to cancel my order I'm a decade to old.

I have baby saliva on my top which I didn't see until I went to post so no outfit today.

Blue boyfriend jumper from boohoo
Skinny blue ripped Jean's from Tesco
Granny slippers from George
Baby slebbers from littlest wild thing.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/06/2020 10:29

I think the difference is that they DID pretend - maybe not those specific people, but so many of them. Particularly people who are influencing young girls, who suck it all up. And so many of them are completely unscrupulous:

@OublietteBravo those are really nice trousers!

Justonedayatatime11 · 12/06/2020 11:09

The weather is meh and I feel my outfit is also meh! Grey and blah. Although accessorised with 2 of my cats.

I'm wearing a dress for #dressUpfriday - I got this the other week and think it will be good with bare legs, but for now tights are on. I have added a heat-tech top underneath because it is cold since taking the photo.

Monki dress, Veja trainers.

Dress looks great I love the pattern

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/06/2020 11:52

Thanks sladeshayer it's faces!

toastfiend · 12/06/2020 12:09

I like that dress @Judystilldreamsofhorses. I was eyeing it up on the Monki site a while ago. It looks fab on you. Smile

I'm in Lucy & Yak again today (surprise!) Not because I'm trying to sell to you all, but because it forms most of my wardrobe and I wanted to be comfy today. I did point out I look a bit like a budget Santa Claus the first time I posted this on here, so I should probably be fired from my "influencing" job... Wink It may not be flattering, but it's very close to pyjamas without actually being in pyjamas, and it's a crappy day weather wise today. We looked at a house yesterday that I loved but don't think we'll be able to afford as they've had offers above asking price already (it's literally been on the market days). Frustrating. The housing market seems to have rocketed in the last few weeks - for what we want, anyway, which is rural, bit of land etc. - perhaps people are trying to get away from cities after lockdown? It's surprised me, though, I thought the market would be dead in the water right now, but quite the opposite. So now I'm eating maltesers to cheer myself up. I've definitely put weight on during lockdown, it was about half a stone, but I lost a few pounds the last couple of weeks, so it's now more like 3lbs. I'm a way above my "goal" weight, though, so I'm annoyed with myself for just thinking 'fuck it' and eating all the carbs and sugar during lockdown. 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 12/06/2020 12:16

Thanks @toastfiend - they have such well priced things, and it drapes really nicely.

I also thought the housing market would have tanked, but my friend sold hers the other day, so maybe not?

Arrgh re lockdown weight. I have been maintaining my pre-lockdown weight pretty much, and weighing myself daily which I don't usually do. This morning I appear to have gained two pounds overnight which is pretty alarming. My comfortable zone is between ten stone and ten and a half, and I am ten-five today - until today I have been floating between ten-one and ten-three depending on the day. Surely I can't have actually gained 2lb in a day? I'm on the mini-pill and don't really have proper periods, but have had spotting over the last day or so - maybe it's that?
