KaliforniaDreamz · 22/05/2020 19:40

yoikes do not google lol

yoikes · 22/05/2020 19:54

I shall stay away from google! Smile

I've just ordered a waft from.the loft 4160 crowdfunder...I'm very naughty. Something to look forward to though.

It'll be ds1s 17th next month...he was supposed to be going to a festival so it'll be pretty crappy for him this year :(

I've got him a some Mandolorian merch and a copy of the highway code and L plates and an IOU for driving lessons.

He doesn't do scent (to my lasting grief) so can't go there...

Have any of you tried the new amber NR?

cantbelievemyeyes · 23/05/2020 08:00

Morning all Smile

Excited to go meet a potential dog for adoption today, of course from a slight distance in a local park. He's a rescued greyhound in foster nearby, but one of a pair (the other is in foster further away). Hoping he likes us and that we think he and his brother can (physically) fit in our house!

Quick squirt of Diptyque Eau des Sens this morning. Currently researching cruelty free perfumes suitable for vegans since I've been one for a couple of months now. A bit sad that I probably won't be replacing some of my favourites but I will be using up things I have/selling things I don't really love. Anyone here used any of the Eden Perfumes dupes? They seem to get good reviews and do versions of some more niche stuff.

SpeckledyHen · 23/05/2020 08:45

Newby here. I know nothing about perfume despite wearing it every day .... need advice please
I love Aesop Marrakech . Is there anything cheaper similar that I might like for everyday use please ?

Out on a limb here - I’m buying hand sanitiser from The Avon Lady in the village at the moment. Are any of hers worth trying?

Thank you

PearsMorgan · 23/05/2020 09:14

Morning all just checking in. Sympathy to people with eye issues, I’ve been somewhere near there and it was horrid. Hope the dog date was successful! Welcome @speckledyhen not me but there are some Avon devotees on here so check back!

SOTD will be Eau Dynamisante. Trying to summon up the will to get up and do some yoga then off to Sainsbury’s for weekly dose of corona.

Greenpop21 · 23/05/2020 09:17

Hi @speckled I’m new to this thread too and I’m sure someone knowledgeable will come along. Have a look at Fragrantica website to see the ingredients of that scent. They suggest similar ones and if you haven’t yet discovered Perfume Parlour have a look today. They are open to orders at the end of this month. They replicate well known scents at a fraction of the price. They give them different names obviously for legal reasons but I’ve had a few and been really impressed.

KaliforniaDreamz · 23/05/2020 10:09

Speckedy Hi and welcome.
Avon are great!
Timesless is gorgeous if you like sllightly old lady vibes, very classic and comforting.
Little Black Dress (weekend) is cute wearable and quite sexy.
i also have in my basket some of the musk ones.

I must get some more eau dynamasante.

Also hi to Greenpop great suggestions to look at perfume parlour and frgrantica. i am still learning and these sites are brilliant. Also iscentyouaday blog (author of which often pops on here and is lovely).

welcome to the safe corner of mumsnet ha.

yoikes · 23/05/2020 10:49

Hi speck
I've got all the avon little black dress series of perfumes. Really rate them. I've been wearing lbd weekend recently. Citrus chypre.
Timeless is a beautiful ambery chypre.
Imari is nice too are the mesmerize series of perfumes (I've got all 3!)

Oooh good luck with the rescue dogs!! Wish I could have a dog but both dh and ds1 are allergic:(

Sotd will be pp by the fireplace again...I need comfort today

teta · 23/05/2020 11:57

Malle's Lipstick Rose is Sotd. I was inspired by today's Fragantica article on the launch of the new lipstick scented perfumes . This is my favourite one out of Misia, Lipstick On and Drole d Rose. It's just the most perfect combination of Rose, Violet and powdery Iris.
Anyone else getting daft queries and pathetic offers for eBay things at the moment. I'm answering them and then getting half price offers. I'm not going to answer anything from now on.

yoikes · 23/05/2020 13:11

I haven't sold anything for ages...
I've been giving perfumes away rather than selling them lately. Less faff :)

Greenpop21 · 23/05/2020 13:21

Do you have a shop online @yoikes?

yoikes · 23/05/2020 16:50

Not anymore no

SpeckledyHen · 23/05/2020 18:10

Thank you Kalifornia and Yoikes think I will try LBD .

KaliforniaDreamz · 23/05/2020 19:08

It's really nice and the prices are great so nothing to lose.
I love a cheap perfume ha!

KaliforniaDreamz · 23/05/2020 19:09

Mrs P where art thou? DM me your address i may be brave enough to venture to the post office next week....

Calmasasleepycat · 23/05/2020 22:09

cantbelieve I hope the dog meeting went well today? I believe greyhounds fold themselves up very small, so hopefully there will be room for two?!

I have really enjoyed reading the reviews and meant to comment every day but I have lost track. We are staying at home, except for long early morning walks, using click and collect deliveries and have stopped socialising except by phone and social media (DH over 70), so life is very weird. It’s actually fairly doable and I know we are lucky compared to many, but I hate not seeing the grandchildren and miss the trips into London and going out and about. I ought to have lots of time to catch up with things but the days have drifted away!

yoikes La Liturgie des Heures is one I really need to try once out of lockdown. I love incense! Also Pears, the Goutal Encens Flamboyant sounds intriguing.

Kali Body Shop White Musk brings back memories of my youth. I still have a little dab on bottle for old time’s sake 😊

Teta, I have several L’Artisan Perfumes and I love how they produce such a variety. I enjoyed reading about your memories of Hong Kong and Fleur de Liane but I’m not sure that I would like the marine note!

MrsP I’m intending to try Serge Lutens Bois de Violette on my next Liberty trip, although goodness knows when that will be.

Boglins that sounds like a good collection from The Perfume Society. I haven’t bought anything from them for a long time, so I need to have a rummage through their website.

French I loved your description of Penhaligon Much Ado About The Duke. I was very excited to see on their website that they will send free samples if you pay for the postage so I have ordered some. I chose four samples and they seem to have been accepted on the order even though they say they will only send two. Unfortunately many are out of stock, including Much Ado About The Duke, but still enough left to choose from.

My SOTD was ALTAIA Yu Son.

Greenpop21 · 24/05/2020 08:19

Morning all. Lockdown has been beautifully scented so far and I’ve enjoyed a bit of a splurge as I haven’t spent on anything else. I’ve recently bought an Aldi Jo Malone soap dupe of pear and freesia and everyone in the house can’t get enough. I know want to spray it in me but don’t want to splurge on Jo without trying. I’ve seen a pear and freesia cologne by Jenny Glow for £7!!!! Anyone know if these are any good. Never heard of this brand.

Greenpop21 · 24/05/2020 08:20
  • I now want to spray it on me!
1frenchfoodie · 24/05/2020 08:49

calm thanks to your message I’ve alighted on a L’artisan Parfumeur scent, Arcana Rosa, by the same nose as Much Ado About the Duke with very similar notes. They’ll send 2 samples for postage costs with a €7.50 off an order; just a shame they limit to two. I like the sound of timbuktu (green mango, vetiver, insence) but do you have any recommendations?

We are a doggy household here (lab x cocker = stumpy lab with incongruous semi fringed ears) cantbelieve so fingers crossed the intro went well, how lovely to be able to home a pair together.

Was it you flora ourdering Black Calamus? It sounds amazing, hope it smells great on you.

teta · 24/05/2020 09:36

@Can't how did it go?
Greyhounds are lovely dogs. I'm wishing we had one, instead of a cocker spaniel that's now resembling a mop. And is so hot on walks he flings himself into any water around.

@Calm your lockdown sounds eminently sensible. DH is 67 so doing pretty much the same, but I've been working all through this. I think it's been the only thing keeping me sane. As all 4 kids and dh have been working from home.

I've sold 4 things on eBay over the last 24 hours, so should have enough to be able to buy a particular Phaedon perfume I've wanted for ages. It's only sold in one UK shop and consequently is really expensive and never discounted.

Calmasasleepycat · 24/05/2020 14:38

French, yes Timbuktu is lovely and I do enjoy it, but it is amazing on DH, so I have given it to him (and I still get to enjoy the wafts!).

My favourite L’Artisan Parfumeur perfumes are:

Mure et Musc - blackberry and musk. This is in my “top ten” list of perfumes. The blackberry is scented rather than fruity and the musk is gentle but persistent. It lasts all day on me. I’ve tested Mure et Musc Extreme but I don’t like it as much (it has added fruit).

Nuit de Tubereuse - this is a dusty tuberose, like walking on a path alongside flowering night-scented shrubs in a hot country. It is a very fragrant tuberose, not strong or buttery. Long-lasting.

Tea for Two - smokey tea. It has an airy note, like drinking lapsang souchong on an Indian tea plantation high up in the mountains.

Skin on Skin - like wearing a suede coat made of the most expensive, soft, buttery suede. Probably one for winter time.

L’Eau D’Ambre Extreme - soft, spicy amber. Very classy and wearable.

MrsPerks · 24/05/2020 15:33

Hello Lovelies - sorry for being MIA. Great to catch-up with diary entries; loved the rose description, Foodie, (and the bonus insights into pandemic-wear in Parisienne supermarkets. Soooo much more chic than here in the UK Grin).

Kali - will DM you! Check our Jardins D'Ecrivains for more author-inspired scents (George is fab).

Yoikes - your Choco-Musk sounds intriguing, but I get nervous about sweet chocolate scents, is it very sugary? Have been experimenting with Raghba by Lattafa - a similarly bargainous rich woody amber, that you might like (happy to send some)?

Calm - I tried to come up with a perfume that I don't like to write about today, but realise I find something to warm to in most things, apart from those that are just a bit meh all over. And they don't inspire much of a review. So have gone with a couple of citrus scents.

yoikes · 24/05/2020 15:48

Oh, I'd love to try that mrsp :)

Sotd pp by the fireplace again

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 24/05/2020 18:19

SOTD Tauer Gardenia. Yesterday was Kiehl’s Musk.
