Until this thread I’d never heard of them.
It’s like a whole new world.Smile

I am also not in London!

Oh ok, I had this image of you all being hip city dwellers, able to drop in to lots of lovey little niche perfume shops. I’ve just had a look at 4160 Tuesdays and it’s very interesting indeed. Where to start? I’m always looking for a perfume with sillage as scents never seem to last on me. I like Chanel Cristalle, 19, Gucci Envy, Diorella, Stella L.I.L.Y and bergamot cologne. I love Armani pour homme and Eau Savauge on DH. Dislike overly sweet smells. Any recommendations for my nose on 4160 would be much appreciated oh wise fragrant ones.

yoikes · 02/08/2020 23:04

Ha!
Your bank balance will not thank me :)
Perhaps start with the fragrance sample packs? Most houses do them now.

yoikes · 02/08/2020 23:04

Fragrantica.com is also a trove of info

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/08/2020 23:09

I am a hip city dweller, just not in London!

Seriously, I would order a load of samples and get sniffing. I don’t especially like 4160 Tuesdays personally, so I would suggest having a look at Les Senteurs - but I know others on here do love 4160 so you might want to ignore me. If you like the sound of something, google it, and also check on Fragrantica, then you can get an idea of whether it might be to your taste. eBay can also be good for little decants to try things out.

There’s a great book (Perfume) by Luca Turin and Tania Sanchez which I buy for all my friends, sometimes with a sample set to go with it - that might be worth a look?

Ha ha, yoikes - jinx!

Thanks so much. I’m learning so much. I think sillage and fresher perfumes are perhaps not good bed fellows. Sweet and heavy seems to last forever if I spray by mistake. I was smelling Angel for days after a test spray. Thanks again.Smile

FloraMacDonald · 03/08/2020 06:25

I also think 4160 perfumes are all a bit sickly sweet. I love the names, but they mostly just smell of lemon sherbet to me. I recently got a Bloom sample set which was good. They have different 'themes' - I got roots and found a new favourite in it. Perfume Society sets can also be interesting.

I'm not a real perfumista, I just like to hang out with the cool crowd. I'm just a village girl who likes to smell nice.

Greenpop21 · 03/08/2020 08:58

Really appreciate your honesty. I was watching the perfume guy YouTube videos until the early hours. Always thought sillage was an ugly word for perfume projection until I heard it pronouncedBlush. So I now know I dislike patchouli and heavy gourmand scents.

Greenpop21 · 03/08/2020 10:11

What do I know? Eau Dynamisante from Clarins has been one of my faves for years. Just read it has a patchouli base note. I’m such an amateur.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 03/08/2020 14:10

SOTD Courreges Hyperbole.

OP posts:
MrsPerks · 03/08/2020 21:55

Gosh Green sorry to have sent you the wrong way on Artemisia. Is Guerlain's Herba Fresca too sweet for you too?

How do you get on with Hermes for woody citruses - Eau de Merveilles perhaps?

Have you sniffed your way along the Guerlain aftershave counter?

If you were going to try 4160Tuesdays, I'd suggest you try Ealing Green (grassy green) or Eat Flowers (green floral), or, if you can stomach patchouli, try Shazam! which is a huge herbal orange. Read the reviews first if you can...

SotD is Hyperbole because I am a copycat. This is my favourite vanilla EVER.

yoikes · 03/08/2020 21:59

Hyperbole is indeed lush :) but my sample is gone:(

Sotd avon lbd weekend

Greenpop21 · 03/08/2020 22:20

No worries @MrsPerks it just shows how individual and subjective scent is. I got it really cheap (about £5) and DD19 likes it so all good. I don’t have access to a Guerlain counter and have never smelt Hermes. If it’s not in Boots or Debenhams I don’t have access.

FloraMacDonald · 04/08/2020 11:16

I've definitely gone off Orange Star. Maybe it's the ambergris. It smells like DS bedroom when it needs airing.

Greenpop21 · 04/08/2020 12:35

Wearing a cloud of Cristalle today.Smile

teta · 04/08/2020 18:13

Cristalle is my all time favourite signature @Greenpop21. I've received my new bottle from Origines. It's perfect and was a brilliant price. But does have a label saying it's only to be sold at a Chanel Boutique .
Sotd is a couple of light sprays of Hermes Pamplemousse Rose, as I did a yoga class this morning.
I've also found a new discovery via a sample swop. A vintage sample of Faberge A Touch of Class - A brilliant green floral from 1981 that's reminiscent of a lighter Safari . Of course I've now ordered a bottle from eBay.Wink
@Greenpop I have several perfume standards as well. Some of my perfumes from Boots are great - Cristalle & The Guerlain Aqua Allegorias, also Samsara and Paris . It's just once you start reading about new things, it's inevitable you want to try them. I've ended up ordering from the states, Australia , Europe and it's got very expensive at times. I especially hate paying customs fees.

yoikes · 04/08/2020 18:19

I remember the tv advert for that teta!

Sotd avon Lbd weekend again. Its very pleasant.

I've got the 4160 waft from the loft crowdfunder on the way next month so I'm trying to be good 😁

yoikes · 04/08/2020 21:04

Sote pp by the fireplace. I guess this is my signature scent ❤

Greenpop21 · 04/08/2020 21:29

@teta I’m realising I’m quite fussy with scents( most things actually) and am a bit nervous to order without trying. Next time I’m in a decent department store I’ll be having a good sniff. Just treated myself to more Eau Dynamisante (eBay) and the shower gel using a John Lewis gift card is forgotten about.Grin

Greenpop21 · 04/08/2020 21:31

Cristalle has a special place in my heart as it was my wedding day perfume. I had the shower gel and body lotion too. Bliss.(the husband was pretty good tooWink)

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 04/08/2020 23:07

SOTD Diptyque Eau Duelle. I had a couple of freelance writing gigs over the summer holiday, one of which pays out on the 15th, the other the 15th of next month, so have just ordered a new bottle of this because mine is almost empty. I almost bought a full bottle of Tauer Carillon but I figure I have missed the window for wearing it really as we move towards autumn.

OP posts:
yoikes · 05/08/2020 09:39

sotd will be mmm replica by the fireplace

Up during the night with ds1 who didn't feel well...then mum woke me at 8am to tell me she isn't going to the drs today 🙄

I've got to go to ikea later and get a new dishwasher (as ours broke 2 days ago) which makes me want to cry.

Have a good day all x

PearsMorgan · 05/08/2020 11:08

Eau Dynamisante has got patchouli in it??!

SOTD was molecule 02 but it’s being sneaky and I can’t smell it any more.
