Sotd clean reserve sueded oud

yoikes · 26/07/2020 20:57

I'm going to have a bath and scent up! :)

I might go for a choccy one

MrsPerks · 27/07/2020 00:45

Teta - its a shame they don't have the 3 x 10ml travel sizes in stock - we'd just need a friend Grin. I can't do anything until August I'm afraid, but could be interested in a split then.

PS. there's a reason I left ambergris off; it's my bete noir (unless well hidden)!

teta · 27/07/2020 09:36

I blind bought a partially used bottle of Hinoki last night. Hasn't someone on here got it as it sounded right up my street. Cedar, lemony frankincense and pine. It's a bit of a risk though as I don't generally blind buy at all now.

FloraMacDonald · 27/07/2020 10:52

I can't decide what to wear this non-summer. Everything I try is not quite right. I have a hankering for Captured by Candlelight, but I refuse to wear something quite so cosy in July!

MrsPerks · 27/07/2020 13:51

Back in Le Parfum de Therese today.

Hinoki sounds interesting, Teta. I need to read up on frankincence. One of my favourite notes but I find it quite unpredictable, I think because of what it is combined with to read as incense? I guess there are smokey and less smokey presentations - Olim's Mortel and the Tauer incences seem on the fresher and zingier end of things? Then there's the drier churchy incense of Avignon, Passage d'Enfer, Sahara Noir, and Nu, or the cooler incense smoke of Encens Flamboyant and La Fumee, but I find it really hard to know what is down to the olibanum, and what is actually opoponax or also elemi as they get combined together often to produce an incense effect.

yoikes · 27/07/2020 17:37

Sotd mmm replica by the fireplace

FloraMacDonald · 27/07/2020 20:37

That's probably a good idea @yoikes, I think I'll try that tomorrow.
Did I mention I have some Tauer samples coming? Grin

yoikes · 27/07/2020 20:41

I shall be sniffing my dads old spice later...7 years ago today since we lost him.

Tauer samples!? Which ones?

teta · 27/07/2020 20:52

And Myrrh can be either green or sweet @MrsPerks. I love green Myrrh as a counterpoint to sweetness like in P.R. battito d Ali or P.R. Neroli or in Eau d iparie.
I’ve scented up in Phaedon Hesperys - my comfort scent. The lavender n Camonile is so comforting and soothing.

teta · 27/07/2020 20:54

Sorry for your loss @Yoikes. I love the smell of old spice 😍

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 27/07/2020 22:36

Old Spice always makes me think of my dad too, yoikes.

SOTD LDR. It is so cold and wet here today, we have the heating on. ☹️

Isn’t ambergris dried whale vomit or something? It’s supposed to be really expensive if you find any.
Sorry about your dad yoikes. Losing a loved one is always tough, no matter how long ago it was.

I’ve not bought anything for ages. Not just because I haven’t got the money, but also because I’m not sure what I’d want if I did have loads. Normally it’d be fun to go around shops and have a sniff but that’s not really possible now. We’ve been having to shield in my family so we’ve not really gone anywhere.
Testing on paper is one thing, but really it’s best to test on your own skin I would have thought.

Been wearing Lancôme Ô de l’Orangerie. It’s such a lovely, fresh, citrus kind of smell. The weather has been total rubbish lately and I fancied a little spritz of something summery.

FloraMacDonald · 28/07/2020 06:35

Flowers yoikes. So sorry.

I'm getting samples of L'Air Du Desert Marocain, Au Coeur Du Desert, Orange Star & Vetiver Dance.

yoikes · 28/07/2020 08:51

Thank you x

Ooh...2 of my fave tauers in there! :)

Well it's sunny here atm so I might go for something lighter today.

teta · 28/07/2020 17:16

Sotd is Eau d Iparie . This is normally a winter one for me but I'm craving comfort and incense today. Dd1 has returned to Bristol today and our spaniel is ill again. Plus there is a localised covid outbreak here. I'm dreading what winter will be like.
Toffee yes, ambergris is apparently the product of whale indigestion ... that they then poop out.😁

yoikes · 28/07/2020 17:26

Oh teta sounds like a difficult day (hugs)

I went for mmm by the fireplace again as the weather is mad here.

I've had an odd day really. I got a 1st interview for that job I applied for (won't get it...they've had so many applicants that they are doing zoom interviews then f2f...)

I've got to present a new strategy for providing services 😬 ugh

I've also stepped down as manager of my voluntary group. Still feel good about it so hopefully the right decision.

Who knows what adventure I'll go on next! 😀

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 28/07/2020 22:14

Oh, teta that sounds difficult. Are you heading for a local lockdown? I think winter is going to absolutely suck.

Great news on the interview yoikes - when is it? Do you have a power scent lined up?

SOTD Byredo Bibliotheque. No rain here today, just gale force winds. 😕

PearsMorgan · 29/07/2020 07:34

Moby-Dick will tell you all you need to know about ambergris. There’s a whole chapter devoted to it.

I haven’t worn perfume for a couple of days. I’m bored with everything again.

I know what you mean about the unpredictability of frankincense. I’ve never found a perfume that smells like the oil. The library of fragrance attempt smells like maple syrup although it’s quite nice in a weird way.

yoikes · 29/07/2020 12:27

Sold EL modern muse nuit. Really like this flanker. Can't stand the original!

I will wear something comforting for the zoom interview I think. Maybe mmm by the fireplace?

If I get to the 2nd round I'll have to think of something suitably kick ass😀

I almost wore prosody mocha muscari today but it's too deep and rich for the intermittent sunshine here.

yoikes · 29/07/2020 14:18

I'm having a rather stressful afternoon with ds1...

He has got to start revising soon for his PG exams in September. Yep...1st day back and straight into exams...

Anyway, he has 2 NEAs to do too for March (ish) and he's just told me that his Geography tutor hasn't got back to him re hus proposal that he sent in on 23/6.

Has he chased it up? Nope.
Does he know why the others in his group have had their feedback? Nope.
Has he double checked it went through? Nope.

Aaarrggghhhhbb

MrsPerks · 29/07/2020 19:44

Well done on the interview, Yoikes! Think we may all need to suggest our favourite interview scents! My top picks are Les Nuits d'Hadrien for the soapy citrus clean feel that comforts frayed nerves, SJP Lovely to suggest calm efficiency, or go large or go home with Coromandel. Think I'm missing something for the discrete and slightly cerebral woody slot; perhaps Sycomore?

Sotd#1 is Habanita and #2 Passage d'Enfer. Have nearly eBayed the latter on more than one occasion as it can strike me as shrieky and chilly, bit today it's the right side of cool metallic incense.

yoikes · 29/07/2020 20:33

mrsp Thank you! :)

I must get some habanita.

I was surprised to get to interview tbh as so many people applied...sign of the Times sadly :(
Pretty sure I won't get to the 2nd stage but will give it my best shot.

yoikes · 29/07/2020 20:34

sote Avon soft musk delice

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 29/07/2020 22:46
