Am trying out Organza tonight. its FAB. Lots of jasmine and tubernose and i think i smell amber and vanilla as well. it is defintiely an 'oriental' fragrance, thought i do feel a bit uncomfortable with using the word oriental as its a bit 'othering' and some people feel its offensive but the fragrance industry has never changed the name for this style of fragrance

I needed inspiration today, so am now also in Silences, plus Grey Flannel. Am galbanum-tastic.

That's interesting One - has there been any debate on this in wider Perfumista circles?

SOTD was Byredo Bibliotheque, but had a bath in the evening and now in Diptyque Eau Duelle. Honestly, fed up of being in cosy scents because the weather is so crap. It should be wall to wall Sel Marin and WIDOMH in July!

SOTD the disappointing blink and it’s gone Rose Prana by anima Vinci. I got a sampler and the only one I’d consider buying is sesame chan.

mrsPerks ive seen a little debate about it in some groups on facebook but one of them turned into a very angry shit show and the post got taken down. I do feel like perhaps its time the perfume industry changed the name of the type, i can see how people might find the term oriental offensive now as its very much a word of stereotypes and othering but i dont know if it ever will change as i dont believe it was ever intended to be offensive but with more PC feelings these days, i can definitely see why some would want it changed

My Mitsouko arrived so thats what im in. total blind buy which most of mine are really, i just see and think that looks okay or that sounds nice and i splash the cash i am the definition of DABT haha

I find hte word oriental a bit, umm colonial too.

Might buy a £5 milton Lloyd to cheer myself up. dupe for clinique aromatic elixirs, altho if i am going to do a dupe it may as well be of something expensive... can't locate a crystal or no19 tho...

I've never thought of the connotations of the classification "oriental"....but yes I see what you mean. I wonder what the alternative could be?

SOTD Chanel 19. Bleurgh, the weather. I know it sounds all “my diamond shoes are too tight” but I am hating being on holiday. Working was giving me a bit of structure and routine, now I am just bored and aimless. This time last year I couldn’t ever have imagined wishing the summer holidays away!

I have a couple of exam board writing contracts coming which will give me something to do plus extra £££. I would like to get a fresh bottle of Diptyque Eau Duelle for going into winter.

@KaliforniaDreamz Hi there. I’m a Cristalle fan and have been told that Perfume Parlour do a dupe called Clear. I haven’t tried it yet as I have the real deal at the moment after a lockdown splurge. Yardley Jade is similar but not quite there for me.

Oh and 19 is Perfect at PP.

Keep posting too soon. I think Perfect is out of stock but I’m on the waiting list.

Hhmmmm...... I think of 'Oriental' as the same as 'Eastern' and I assume that originally those particular scents came from east of UK. So in a literal sense, I see it as purely descriptive. But yes, it probably is a bit 'othering.' I don't know what to use instead though.

Re PP: I recently contacted them and was told they don't do any Chanel dupes, for copyright reasons. Happy to be corrected if anyone thinks they do it without advertising the fact!

Neither Rebel Bitches nor Witches seem to last on me, which is very disappointing. I have so many questions. I wonder if anyone ( MrsP !) has written an article about why perfumes last or smell different on different people? And why some fragrances seem so powerful on some people? If I spray a tiny bit of Vetiver Insolent it's all I can smell for days. Is it really so powerful, or am I just more receptive to it for some reason?

@FloraMacDonald they don’t do Chanel dupes. They do perfumes made from the same ingredients. An important difference legislatively. I think they must be pretty darn good for Chanel to get all threatened! Somebody on this thread told me the names on PP.

I have a list somewhere but all are out of stock which seems odd.

They’ve been closed over lockdown and possibly still affected as they’re in Leicester. Hope they get to restock soon.

Gucci Envy(Florence Spite?) is still out of stock too.
