Hello Lovelies - hope everyone is safe and well? I am really sorry to have been AWOL for the end of the calendar - I loved everyone's entries. I did rather the hit the wall for a bit, (I know it's non-trivial when I can't even face perfume chat!), but am beginning to pick back up.

To consolidate my progress, I may have done a couple of bad things Grin.

I haven't fully caught up with the thread yet, but hope to, with a glass of something nice this evening.

SotD #1 is Habit Rouge (EdP). I need to try this side by side Shalimar, but I think I might prefer the former. I have been enjoying my sample so much I'm looking out for a full bottle. It has a very beautiful lemon opening, before a soft spicy powdery rose comes through and then finally the warm comforting vanilla and gentle leather. Recommended!

Am also giving Maroc pour Elle another spin. I like it; citrus and huge jasmine on a woody-ambery base. I see some people have made comparisons with Shazam! I don't immediately see this, and Shazam! has a heavier hand with the patchouli and consequently a real old skool hippie vibe, but I will try these side by side sometime too.

Boglins · 13/06/2020 19:11

Happy birthday to your DS yoikes and hope you've all had a lovely day in the garden.

yoikes · 13/06/2020 19:14

We have thank you x

Calmasasleepycat · 13/06/2020 21:20

MrsPerks, lovely to see you here again! I’m sure we’ve all had days where we just didn’t feel like entering into perfume chat. I know I have. I am so over enjoying lockdown with time out and relaxation. I just want to get back to normal, but I know that’s not going to happen any time soon.

I’m going to try Maroc Pour Elle again, following your example MrsP. I still have some left from the Tauer sample set I got a while ago. I really didn’t like it at the time, I can’t quite remember why, but I love Shazam!, so will have another go.

My SOTD was Diorissimo, lily of the valley with green notes. I love it but DH doesn’t, so I have to be careful not to wear too much. He says it sets off his hay fever. 😨

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 13/06/2020 22:44

Hello, mrsP, nice to see you back. Glad you had a nice day yoikes.

Pissing rain and cold again here, so another day in Eau Duelle for me.

Can I just say amongst friends ... beware of scams. I've just had a PayPal scam message saying your account is being frozen today only when I logged onto it - no. Weird source email address when checked.
Also an amazon email saying an unauthorised transaction was on our account. That went into spam but the PayPal one didn't. So beware - the fraudsters are about.
Sotd is Ormonde Jayne Tiare . For cooking slow roast pork and gooseberry crumble.
I'm debating ordering the January Scent Project pack from the states. I would love to try Eidlerantler as the notes sound right up my street . Anyone tried this or Smolderose?

yoikes · 14/06/2020 16:39

I've had a few of those teta

Sotd mmm replica by the fireplace

PearsMorgan · 15/06/2020 18:32

SOTD Do Son with an overspray of Ffern Spring - the Do Son is still going, the Ffern isn’t. Took kids out and dealt with massive tantrum in shop. Really over the school shutdown now.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/06/2020 20:10

I had that Amazon message too, also one about Netflix teta.

SOTD MMM Lazy Sunday Morning.

Calmasasleepycat · 15/06/2020 20:19

SOTD was 4160Tuesdays “Meet Me On The Corner”, a classy lemony chypre. You can smell the lemon all the way through in an understated way.

MrsPerks, I tried Tauer’s Maroc Pour Elle again, following your example, but still don’t like it. I’m wondering if the sample has actually gone off, it smells so unpleasant! 😨. It’s a while since I bought the sample set, so the half-used sample has been hanging around for a while.

Calmasasleepycat · 15/06/2020 20:24

teta thank you for the scam warnings. We have had a warning message through the local Neighbourhood Watch to say that fraudsters are trying to take advantage by posing as contact tracers and gathering personal information by deception. How cruel is that?

Geraniumblue · 15/06/2020 21:31

Finally gathering courage to actually post on the thread, which I’ve been reading for a long time. Sotd was Panorama which I bought a sample of when I visited Bloom months ago. It’s quite herby and green and I feel incredibly sophisticated wearing it and may have to save up to buy a bottle.

yoikes · 15/06/2020 21:32

Hello and welcome!

FloraMacDonald · 16/06/2020 07:13

I found a whole box full of perfumes when I was tidying yesterday. Blush It's the box of full bottles that I don't completely love. They're either blind buys or gifts. I'll retry them to see whether any can be moved up a category.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/06/2020 12:07

SOTD JHAG Mad Madame for yet another grey day. I swear I was coping far better with lockdown when the sun was shining.

flora A whole box????
Wow. Happy sniffing!
It's pretty miserable here weather wise too judy

Greenpop21 · 16/06/2020 17:29

Hi. I’m wearing Cristalle again. Hot day here.

FloraMacDonald · 16/06/2020 18:30

yoikes yes but it's all a bit meh. Marc Jacobs Daisy, MH noix de tuberose, givenchy Live Irresistible Rosy Crush, etc. Nothing to get excited about.

Today is a Black Calamus day. Smile

Calmasasleepycat · 16/06/2020 21:03

Hello Geranium, welcome! The Panorama notes sound intriguing. I’m making a Bloom list. I love visiting there, but it may have to be a mail order.

SOTD was Miller Harris Fleur du Matin. It is very beautiful but faint after 2-3 hours.

Flora, I too have a box of relegated perfumes, but I’m not very good at adding to them. I keep changing my mind!

MrsPerks · 17/06/2020 01:14

Evening All. Still digging deep here - but at least perfume is back as a very welcome distraction.

I picked up a job lot of 80s miniatures on eBay very cheaply. This probably encapsulates my vintage buying experience in microcosm. Two appear to be filled with water, two are behaving a little oddly in their opening stages, but open out very well, two are aftershaves not really to my taste, but five are fabulous! (It's a numbers game..).

The 'hits' require more consideration, but the headlines are:

  • Paco Rabanne's La Nuit: civet-heavy symphonic floral-chypre, can understand the parallels with Maai. Need a full bottle immediately Smile.
-Armani: dried grass and moss. Rich, abstract and austere compared by today's aesthetics. Need a bottle of this too... -Cartier Must: soapy oriental with a sharp green note and a hint of civet.
  • VC &A's Gem: complicated plum chypre with bitter spice notes.
  • Hermes Amazone; 70s floral/green chypre with huge cinnamon note. Think Coriandre but with cinnamon rather than coriander.

These are all big fragrances, each with large numbers of listed notes, including animalic ones - smelt together in a single sitting they are a bit headache inducing, but what a treat to explore. Smile

yoikes · 17/06/2020 13:54

Sounds intriguing!!

I'm wearing mmm replica by the fireplace again. Not a scent I'd normally associate with the month of June! My sister told me I smelt amazing earlier :)

I love this stuff. It's comforting, warm, powdery....yum yum

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 17/06/2020 17:53

SOTD JM Wood Sage.

That does sound intriguing, mrsP. I need to have a IV through my huge sample tin for some new things.

I had two nice surprises today, my friend sent me a box of brownies, and my aunt sent me some beautiful Bloom and Wild flowers. If anyone wants £10 off flowers, this code gets me a credit too: (sadly no brownie code!)

Yes, a bundle of old miniatures and access to Fragrantica/Basenotes is all you need to while away a fabulous few hours and build-up knowledge in the process. I do enjoy wandering around the aesthetics of preceding eras - it's like being able to time travel.

Greenpop21 · 17/06/2020 23:09

I managed to get a squirt out of my L’occitane rhubarb and pink grapefruit today. The spray is broken but occasionally works.

FloraMacDonald · 18/06/2020 10:15

I'm wearing MMM By the Fireplace today, as I didn't particularly recognise yoikes description of 'powdery' from yesterday. I Iike it a lot (it's in the 'really like it but probably not enough for a full bottle' category), but I'm still not getting 'powdery.' It's interesting how we can get such different things from the same scent!

I couldn't find the sample this morning, so I panicked a bit and now I need to go sort out the jumble of samples on my bedroom floor!
