Do you think I’d suit red/auburn hair?? Photo inc

I’ve been highlighted blonde for Years. I think I once had my hair a kind of henna red when I was maybe 17. I’ve recently box dyed dd’s hair with a mid golden brown, and it’s kind of come out a glossy gingery auburn colour. She’s much paler than me. I wonder whether it would suit my colouring or not or whether I’d massively regret it. What do you think?? Excuse haggard face Grin

I wouldn't. Coloured red hair never seems to look quite right, especially home dye. Plus it fades so fast. I really like your colour now (and piercings 😍)

stopandListen · 14/05/2020 22:39

Ex hairdresser here, honestly I think you'd probably be able to carry off pretty much any colour, much to do with personality and although I don't know you, from your posts and pictures alone you ooze loads of it.

Please update us when you've done it!
Funny how one poster called you hard faced due to a piercing, to me you come across earthy and fun.

Thisismytimetoshine · 14/05/2020 23:34

Jesus, hard faced?? How bloody rude!

Kenworthington · 15/05/2020 07:20

Ah updates! Good morning! Woken up by frigging catface. And he’s starting crashing around in the muddle of the night EVERY night to wake me up so I can ‘watch him eat his biscuits and scratch his post’ whhhhat. How can I make it stop jeez it’s like having some mental furry newborn

Anyways thanks for all the love. It’s prob a good job all the hairdressers are shut because I’d have been and done it and regretted it and been re highlighted all in one go by now. Impetuous you see. Ok so in the good light of this ridiculous early morning , and I look like dogshit I KNoW becaus it’s bloody 7am and why am I even up 😬🤷🏼‍♀️ But here’s hair and skin in the horrible cold light of day. Hair was tied up yesterday. I have Loads of it. It kind of grows out rather than down.

@WhatwouldLangdo I will I will i will. Update. But then.. will I?? Can’t decide. Still. Depends how bored I get later. May toddle off down to boots and buy Some hastily purchased ill-thought out colour and whack it on. Then come back crying later. I’ll be sure to let you know 😘

I would say just one thing about dyed red hair - well more than one thing I guess. I used to dye mine red. I enjoyed the colour but the bloody regrowth! It is better I think to stay within your natural colour if you don't want to colur any grey roots constantly.

I have now made the very sad decision to keep to browns. Red really shows up grey roots and then you might get orange in the lighter grey ares (I am assuming you may have some, sorry if not!).

I have no tattoos (couldn't make up my mind!) and only ears pierced but make up for it with cheery lip colours! and sometimes bright clothing.

Swiftier · 15/05/2020 10:43

You’re gorgeous but I think have too much red in your skin for red hair to work. I could actually imagine you with an ice blond or grey!

sniffysnuffler · 15/05/2020 10:51

You would look great! And your face is not haggard or hard FFS - you look gorgeous.

Just in case ... I have half a block of Lush henna, grated, that I'd be happy to send you for free, if you're interested, to spread a bit of lockdown love. I used to do mine regularly, but then one time I was all set to do it and decided I'd grow out my increasing grey instead. I can't remember whether the henna I've got is marron (red-brown) or the bright red - I used to use both.

Henna is not a good idea if you're likely to want to use other colour treatments afterwards (or just leave the option of being able to bleach it out if you hate it)

Livingoffcoffee · 15/05/2020 12:20

I think I'm quite similar to you - I've tried all sorts and the best two colours for me are 100% either bleached/ashy blonde or dark red. Everything else is just meh.

therobin · 15/05/2020 12:24

No, you don't have the right skin tone for it.

Kenworthington · 15/05/2020 15:52

Thanks for all the replies. I’m almost def not going to do it. I’m Currently sat in My garden in my pants in the sunshine with some rose gold semi on it. I doubt it’s gonna do much. If it looks nice I’ll post a pic!
Thanks to who offered the henna- I’m too much of a wuss to try the henna because when I undoubtedly loathe it I’ll be screwed!

Everyone looks hard faced when they don’t smile. It takes skill to have resting bitch face like I do lol. I think a browny red may suit you actually. Not sure about ginger though as you have really dark eyes.

MuthaClucker · 15/05/2020 16:00

I really like your light hair, I think you look great.

Would have LOVED if you'd replied to the hard face post with a threat of a Glasgow Kiss Grin

MrsCVorFluWhoKnows · 15/05/2020 16:01

Not sure, because of how dark your eyes are it makes me wonder if you have an olivey skin tone (when not tanned). I am light olive (can be called "sallow") and red or auburn of any kind really doesn't suit.

I have had red hair before (both auburn and pillarbox red) but at the time it was what I wanted and I didn't really care if it suited my skin tone [shrugs]

I have very dark brown hair naturally and look best with dark brown with some highlights for warmth but am a cheapskate so am box-dye dark brown Grin

Besom · 15/05/2020 16:03

Hardfaced! That's an expression my mother would have used along with 'you sound like a fishwife'. You look great OP and could probably pull off about anything I bet.

Kenworthington · 15/05/2020 16:10

@Motherclucker I don’t even know what that is 🤦🏼‍♀️ Which prob perfectly demonstrates how very non-hard I actually am eh Grin

I think because of your dark eyes you should avoid red- natural red-heads always have light eyes. Your skin is too red to contrast with red hair- you'd look red all over!

I think a rich dark chocolate colour would suit you with some caramel highlights.

RuffleCrow · 15/05/2020 16:53

You have quite tanned skin so maybe go for a deep red - think Isla Fisher rather than Nicole Kidman.

RuffleCrow · 15/05/2020 17:40

And it's a myth that redheads always have light eyes.

No, they really don't. I know at least 2 people with very red/ginger hair and dark brown eyes. Lovely combination.

SirVixofVixHall · 15/05/2020 20:02

I know several people with red hair and brown eyes. Gorgeous. My granny had auburn hair and hazel eyes.

dontgobaconmyheart · 15/05/2020 21:02

Nah I wouldn't OP, your skin looks quite red-toned. I can't think of a shade that would work as you're very tanned so the copper-orange colours will just look the same as the skin tone and cherry reds will bring out the pink. It's also a pain to keep red looking good and the colour bright.

Brunette would suit you?
