And here's me thinking I'm the only 40-something who still reads the House on the Prairie books! I had to buy a new set a few years ago as my childhood set were falling to its. They are one of my comfort reads.

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/05/2020 19:47

I never read the LHOTP books. I loved Anne of Green Gables though!

Anne of Green Gables has been manna for my soul since I was 10.

Anne loves puffed sleeves

paradyning · 20/05/2020 21:31

I learnt about organza from Anne Shirley

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:35

I am ok with a print dress if it is a design that shows a lot of plain background. When you think about it back in my youth Laura Ashley was a big thing. Dorothy Perkins had a lot of printed stuff too for the poorer of us. I had a pair of Max like shoes in the 70`s, black patent.

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:46

Did Diana ever wear Laura Ashley, some of the 80`s designs look so her..

I found this, @justasking111

I could see Kate in this dress.

I loved the What Katy Did books & the sequels. Cousin Helen always perfectly dressed & groomed. Unlike me. Blush

BlingLoving · 21/05/2020 09:31

Actually @Boscoismyspiritanimal makes a good point - I'd say Kate is FAR more Anne of Green Gables than Little House on the Prairie. Anne loved a frill and her aunt (name escapes me) loved a high neck etc!

The Diana Laura Ashley dress would work for Kate but she' never wear it, or at least not currently - she's all about the super high necklines and big sleeves etc.

BlingLoving · 21/05/2020 09:33

Interestingly, the few snaps we have of her in her private life that's not being a mum, and certainly when she was younger, I think she likes a bit of sexy. So maybe she saves that for home etc and goes for the super conservative for work.

I think I've said this before but I've always wondered what she wore to her sister's reception. We've never seen any pictures and I like to think she threw off that pink monstrosity and turned up in something slinky and sexy for the after party (although had she had Louis recently so perhaps not TOO super and sexy but sufficiently so to flash a little extra BF cleavage?)

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2020 09:45

Oh Kate's an Anne fan all right, remember the time she practically dressed like her to visit Prince Edward Island?

(My favourite Anne book is actually one about her daughter - Rilla of Ingleside - which details the Blythe family's experience of WWI.)

"Batsheva Hay Rethinks the Traditions of Feminine Dress"
Inspired by Victorian, Amish, and Hasidic styles, the New York designer’s clothing is both subversive and coveted.

The Little House on the Prairie dresses have been a Thing for a while now.

StartupRepair · 21/05/2020 09:57

Yes I loved Rilla of Ingleside. Thought about her when my own DC had croup.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2020 10:00

@StartUpRepair and WALTER 😭😭

Me too! Smile

SenecaFallsRedux · 21/05/2020 14:32

That dress she wore to Pippa's wedding was really unfortunate. She was acting as a sort of matron of honor so I assume that Pippa had a hand in choosing it. If I had been Kate, I would have reminded little sister of what I chose for her bridesmaid dress and suggested some quid pro quo. Smile

I'm glad that the Little House look has not made its way here to Florida and is unlikely to do so considering our climate. On the other hand, I haven't been out of the house in two months so I don't know what people are wearing.

AppleKatie · 21/05/2020 14:41

It’s fairly well assumed that Kate is pretty risk adverse and after all the press about Pippa’s dress at their wedding I’m sure Kate went as middle aged and matronly as possible for Pippas quite deliberately.

But yes would love to see what she wore in the evening 😱

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 21/05/2020 14:45

I sure I’ve read somewhere that Kate does not like to upstage a bride so usually does a rewear. Obviously not for your sisters wedding so I guess she went for something not as flattering. (I’m being kind here).

They say Kate's a Mumsnetter so perhaps she'll namechange for us and pop a photo of the post wedding part dress on this thread. Smile

AdaColeman · 21/05/2020 16:23

I'm sure I read at the time that Kate had especially requested her visit to Prince Edward Island, as she was such a fan of the books.

CanIHaveAPenguinPlease · 21/05/2020 16:36

Saw this on another thread & thought I should post it here.

QueenOfTheAndals · 21/05/2020 16:45

I liked her PEI sailor dress but wouldn't it have been even better if she'd brought out some giant puffed sleeves?

thisenglishlife · 21/05/2020 16:57

The dress she wore to Pippa's wedding made it look like she has droopy breasts (which she doesn't). I can't believe someone would pick out such an unflattering dress for her.

Kate wears new clothes to weddings as well as rewears. Her outfit to Eugenie’s wedding was new and in a lovely bold shade. She also wore a new outfit to Meghan's which was very similar but not the same one she wore to Charlotte's christening:
whatkatewore.com/2018/05/21/official-wedding-photos-solve-mystery-of-kates-coat-color/

I think the colours for Meghan's wedding were pre-organised, they created a nice pastel pallette in the official photo - HM wore green, Doria wore a pistachio green, Camilla wore pink and Kate wore light yellow.

Some Kate wedding guests looks that were new outfits. The electric blue Issa dress is similar to her engagement one, but not the same.
