I love these sea salt sandals buy both dh and dd say they are somewhat granified and not stylish. What does everyone think? Also do you prefer the black or tan colour?

It depends how you wear them and what your general style is. If you are generally quite edgy and have quite trendy outfits on, or wear vintage dresses then it could work. If you dress "practically" then they could look grannyish - in my humble opinion and by no means an expert!

They're similar to ones my friend has and I've had in the past, also with the flowers up the middle - don't know if you've seen the style.

Something like those or a lower closed version.

Can't see anything at the moment that doesn't look straight out of the 80s & 90s I have to say.

I would wear them, I mean that I do wear them, well some very much the same, and in tan also. I had to empty my Mum's flat 16 years ago after she had died. In her wardrobe,I found a shoe box, with a brand new pair of sandals in, the said sandals. So I now have them, and wear them. They are very comfortable to wear, and much better than all these flimsy thin strappy sandals.

pinkmagic1 · 09/04/2020 15:31

I do like both you have posted Terralee. I have some similar ones to the second pair, but these are for evening wear on holiday, not for everyday walking about. I also have some Havianas but these are really just for the beach or pool or short trips to the shops. Looking for everyday comfy but also stylish sandals. My tastes are quite eclectic so keep them coming.

They are also too flat for me, I need support.
I prefer Birkenstock's but they're not everyone's cup of tea.

They remind of shoes for bunion sufferers.

IceBearRocks · 09/04/2020 15:55

They are way too flat !!!

Thefaceofboe · 09/04/2020 15:56

Nice Smile

MrsSnitchnose · 09/04/2020 15:59

Grannified. The black ones slightly less so than the tan. My nan (80) has a similar pair

Davespecifico · 09/04/2020 16:00

They were in shops like Office a couple of years ago, to be worn ironically, I guess.
Now they’ve filtered to Fat Face etc, so come full circle.
They’re the sort of thing that will look great if you look cool, but if you’re a bit frumpy anyway, they’ll just blend with you.
Also, if they’re quite cheap, the soles will not be leather meaning your feet will be slashing around in them in warm weather.

wibdib · 09/04/2020 16:04

I tried some Teva Tirra sandals having seen so many recommendations on Mumsnet over the years - and having bought one pair in a shop having thought they were comfy enough to buy, they have been blissfully comfy and I now have 3 pairs that have lasted years.

They are great as they can also get wet without any problems, they're really comfortable as you can adjust them as necessary and the sole is really squashy. And they don't seem to wear out! I've only got 3 pairs as I fancied having different colours and because I think it's good not to wear the same sandal every day (as they can get a bit whiffy as I discovered when I did this with my first pair - they were so comfy that I realised I wasn't wearing any of my other sandals... Blush

They have lots of other styles too, some that are more similar to the others linked to on this page and your pictures.

EndIsNigh · 09/04/2020 16:07

Love the tan ones. I have navy blue Saltwater sandals and they are very, very comfortable and last really well. Look like new and this will be third summer so very good value for money.

DianaT1969 · 09/04/2020 16:10

No. There are much nicer sandals out there. Dune usually have lovely tan ones.
They are flat and offer no under arch support.

raspberryk · 09/04/2020 16:13

OP don't listen to @wibdib they're all horrendous on that website.

pazwaz70 · 09/04/2020 16:20

I have a pair of sea salt sandals & I'm definitely not grannified. I've had them a few years, still looking good.
Comfortable as well.

Menaimum · 09/04/2020 16:24

They are 60 - 75% gran. Lots of people (and probably you) rock the comfort look without a hint of dowdiness.
Straps around the ankle on a flat can tend to thicken the look.
The tan on tan are ok. One thing that makes the black ones gran IMO and not "fashion" is that the insole is tan. This is a general rule I would not break - beige insoles make me feel old.
As usual I think anyone should wear what they like and want. What I wrote above are my rules for me.

Lucindainthesky · 09/04/2020 16:28

I'm 42 and I bloody love saltwaters. I have them in navy, red, silver and olive. They are very comfy and last really well.

ChipsyChopsy · 09/04/2020 16:41

I'm not a gran and I have the tan ones. If anything I worry I'm not trendy enough for my sandals...

ChipsyChopsy · 09/04/2020 16:43

Oh no wait, I have the saltwater equivalents.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 09/04/2020 16:46

The thing that would make them look Granny is an old body and treetrunk legs, If you have a nice pair of pins they will look great

BringMeTea · 09/04/2020 16:48

Not granny. Tan more summery.

Costacoffeeplease · 09/04/2020 16:53

Def granny frump

I live in the Algarve so wear sandals more than anything and my everyday sandals are vionic flip flops. They’re much more solid than normal flip flops and have plenty of support, similar to these
www.vionicshoes.com/kelby-toe-post-sandal.html?76=114
I can wear them all day, and have a gold pair for evenings and a black pair and a tortoishell pair for day or evening

Giraffe50 · 09/04/2020 16:57

Sorry, I commented early on in thread saying I had a pair in red and the leather is lovely and soft. To clarify they are Salt Water brand (not Sea Salt).

TheCanterburyWhales · 09/04/2020 16:58

Saltwaters to me look more like little girl sandals than frumpy.
You need small, manicured and tanned feet though, like any strappy sandal or they look dreadful.

museumum · 09/04/2020 16:58

I thought i liked saltwaters but the ones in the OP have too much coverage on top and just look wrong to me.
I much prefer the original salt waters with proper gaps between the straps.
And definately in tan - black sandals are odd for daytime.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 09/04/2020 17:02

I like them I have a similar pair in tan
