Royal style: Max and Wax and whacky hats

Now that the Commonwealth event is nearly over, we have another treat ahead of us. Maxima in Indonesia!

In light of what happened on the previous thread, I'm going to take a leaf out of Elizabeth SMT Holmes' book and say critique the clothes and the styling but not the physical appearances of various royal women.

There is this company called Juniper books that does gorgeous cloth bound books , I think they are the ones Kate has displayed,

I love the old wooden In & Out trays Kate is using, obviously dug out from a long abandoned KP store room, probably last used by Queen Mary!

thisenglishlife · 29/03/2020 11:53

It's these ones in the photo (I recognise them from book shops): www.penguin.co.uk/series/clotbo/penguin-clothbound-classics.html

thisenglishlife · 29/03/2020 11:56

This one is definitely in the photo:

They're probably the Jane Austens mainly

Brevityisthesoulofwit · 29/03/2020 11:57

Do we think she did her own hair and make up? Because unless her stylist is live in, that’s hardly essential is it?

thisenglishlife · 29/03/2020 12:04

It most likely would have been taken on the same day as the 111 visit brevity. Did she have hair and makeup people on that date? Probably not. Her hair is usually straight/straight-ish when she has done it herself.

But it’s good to see her wearing her nice M&S trouser suit again!

queenofarles · 29/03/2020 12:10

Ada they look very Oka Grin.

The whole photo looks like a perfume ad from the 80s.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/03/2020 12:15

Those photos! So very staged 😂 Agree with @queenofarles, its like an ad for Kensington: by Catherine, now you too can smell like a duchess...

AdaColeman · 29/03/2020 12:24

@queenofarles, you can tell I’m not up on trendy houseware if I didn’t recognise something from Oka! Actually most of my stuff does date from Queen Mary’s era! Grin
YY to the 1980s perfume ad look!

BlingLoving · 29/03/2020 12:57

The books are weird only because if you had that lining your desk wouldn't they constantly be falling off!? But actually, I think the office is overall probably more or less genuine. If I worked in a palace and was the senior person, I'd have a lovely office with comfortable couches and no plastic too. However, I ALSo believe Kate would genuinely have the kids\ pottery pen holder, pictures painted by Charlotte and a few items with baby footprints/hand prints which we're not seeing here!

MangoFeverDream · 29/03/2020 13:10

That doesn’t look like a desk that gets used much, no papers and where is the laptop? Lmao no real work gets done on that desk for sure 😂

itswinetime · 29/03/2020 13:18

Isn't that an iPad on the desk? The big thing that looks like a photo frame? He is a modern green man who gets things done obviously 😂😂

MangoFeverDream · 29/03/2020 13:24

You may be right! But why are the drawers facing away from the desk? 😱 More proof the desk is for show!

itswinetime · 29/03/2020 13:40

He is very green I think he is paperless and has turned the desk round so the kids have something to play with while he works we all have to make changes working from home and all 😂😂😂

To be fair I imagine that is in a more open part of Kensington hence the photos being allowed they probably do have actual messy paper even not fit for a photo shoot office in the private parts but I doubt they wanted to let the press through into there.

SenecaFallsRedux · 29/03/2020 13:45

The books are weird only because if you had that lining your desk wouldn't they constantly be falling off!?

That was my reaction as well. Also they take up a lot of the surface of the desk, which suggests to me that either it's not really used as a working desk or that the books were put there for the photo. It's a desk mainly for people who only have to talk on the phone now and then and/or sign the occasional letter prepared by others. Maybe it's a stunt desk and the real work gets done elsewhere.

paradyning · 29/03/2020 13:50

The Kate photo looks like KP. It looks like the room that the Obamas were photographed with George

AdaColeman · 29/03/2020 13:51

I'm more surprised that they are both using land line phones, I thought it was all Zoom and WhatsApp these days.

But they must want the photos to highlight traditional values, probably the same PR agency that did George & Her Maj mixing the Christmas puddings.

paradyning · 29/03/2020 14:05

I'm sorry but I find the images deeply irritating. We don't need that bullshit PR.
I still like the suit though and her hair suits her well.

theschoolonthehill · 29/03/2020 14:32

I imagine the photo were taken on the day she first wore the M&S suit. William is showing ‘he’s the man’ now the Queen and Charles are unavailable. I think the photos are in bad taste when everyone knows they are enjoying their huge gardens, swimming pool and tennis lessons in their ten bedroom country residence while the rest of the world is falling apart. They probably have ventilators in the house too.

itswinetime · 29/03/2020 14:37

The message shared with the photos is to highlight their mental health charities so while I completely agree the photos are staged and slightly cringe worthy. There isn't a lot they can do at the moment the can't visit anywhere and raise awareness that way but a cheeses photo that they can do......it's given people something to talk about if only for a few minutes

AppleKatie · 29/03/2020 14:39

Why is that hideous wooden draw unit facing away from William’s desk?

AppleKatie · 29/03/2020 14:40

As you can see I’m all about focussing on the really big issues.

thisenglishlife · 29/03/2020 15:05

More secure than computers and mobile phones.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 29/03/2020 15:38

Why is that hideous wooden draw unit facing away from William’s desk?

I think it's so the drawers can still be opened. They'd be blocked by the desks on the two other sides.
