Royal style: the Duel of the Duchesses

Previous thread

What will tomorrow bring for Kate? Does her love for green know no end?

And Thursday night sees the return of Meghan! I know she can be polarising so let's stick to just discussing her clothes rather than the intricacies of Megxit. There's plenty of other threads to do that!

It was me who said the constant literal dressing makes her seem a bit dim, and I'm fine with my comment. I mean, it takes a real lack of imagination to think Ireland = green, Scotland = tartan, etc. Maybe it's not dim as much as lazy, I don't know, but I think it's patronising and makes her seem rather silly.

Right lot of bitchy posters have appeared on these threads in the last few weeks! It was so nice before, from thread one it was accepted that we didn't descend into arguments. Let's keep it that way.

drina27 · 06/03/2020 09:59

Yet you see nothing wrong with your contributions, I presume?

drina27 · 06/03/2020 10:00

Anyway, do carry on as you see fit.

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 10:01

Oh give it a rest woman Hmm

Spudlet · 06/03/2020 10:06

🤦‍♀️

Nanasueathome · 06/03/2020 10:09

Does anyone else think that Meghan is getting more like Kim Kardashian?

theschoolonthehill · 06/03/2020 10:09

I was thinking last night when I was putting my DC to bed that Kate must have been excited to see her children again after a couple of nights away from them. Louis is still so small.

It must be nice when they leave knowing the children are well used to being with their nannies and will be fine but she comes across as an involved mum and I’m sure she missed Louis her baby especially. The other two are at school, activities etc and are probably rarely at home anyway.

Meghan and Harry maybe left Archie in the US (or Canada - I’m not sure where they live) so they can leave quickly after their engagements without people saying they should stay longer.

I know many parents have to leave their children for work and for much longer timeframes than the RF but it must still be difficult when it’s for more than a couple of nights.

Anyway back to clothes....

catspyjamas123 · 06/03/2020 10:11

These posts are so cruel. She does look great.

theschoolonthehill · 06/03/2020 10:11

That would be a resounding no.

KK looks cheap. Meghan does not.

allibaby · 06/03/2020 10:15

The bitching has been going on for ages and not just in the past few weeks.
It's the regular posters who are bitching constantly about Kate yet continue to spout that this thread is only about the clothes and not the women.

Dress it up how you like but this thread really isn't the sweet and light hearted thread about Royal style as it is falsely portrayed to be, especially when it comes to Kate and I'm glad a few posters have come out to point out the hypocrisy and nastiness in this thread.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 06/03/2020 10:19

One day when we have a thread meet up, I vote we have a ceremonial burning of The Erdem Monstrosity

I liked it. I’ll take it off your hands if need be.

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 10:24

I have a dress that's very like the yellow Erdem! I like it. I feel quite regal in it, in fact! Grin

allibaby · 06/03/2020 10:33

Just to add my thoughts on Meghan last night, I thought she looked beautiful.

I liked Kate in the Pink dress with the ruffle collar, I thought she looked elegant.

AudacityOfHope · 06/03/2020 10:37

Meghan's make up was perfection Smile

HappydaysArehere · 06/03/2020 10:39

First time I have seen that photo. Very odd. She usually looks so perfect.

drina27 · 06/03/2020 10:39

Kate always looks elegant and appropriately dressed. Her natural beauty and seemingly genuine, engaging personality help her, hugely - and by extension the family she has chosen to marry into.

HappydaysArehere · 06/03/2020 10:42

My dh has just asked if it has been “photoshopped” as there were other pictures of her wearing that dress where she didn’t look like that.

Becles · 06/03/2020 10:53

Kate usually looks like someone playing at dress up (clothes for meeting inlaws for the first time). Barring a few notable exceptions her clothes often wear her and look aging.

The queen, Anne, Margaret, Zar, Bea and Eug dress appropriately for their ages and roles and so do the rest of the European royal women.

The difference is that Kate is aware of the bullying M and others get, so is petrified of the consequences of dressing withing 2 decades of her age (let alone anything hinting at some personality-remember Mathilde's yellow mac outfit!)

Who was it that said when you get ready to go out you should look in the mirror and take one thing off? I feel a bit like that about much of what Kate wears, and it's frustrating because with her figure, money and access to dressmakers etc she should get it right every time. She looks fab 99% of the time, rarely wears a complete miss but even when she looks great for me it's often not quite right because there's just too much of something added on (if that makes sense).

I've said this before but I do think that we self-regulate pretty well on these threads, posters are called out if they get too personal, but as always there will be differences of opinion about the clothes and how they're worn and reasons why they do or don't work. So I might love an outfit that Kate/Meghan/Max is wearing but someone else will come along and say they don't like the cut/colour/length/handbag or whatever but that's fine.

itswinetime · 06/03/2020 11:13

I agree with the posters that said Meghans dress needed to be more tailored. There is nothing wrong with keeping it simple but I think when you do simple it has to be perfect or else it doesn't work as well.

That said she looked beautiful of course she did, both duchess always look beautiful but sometimes their clothes are better than others.

LAs we have no visits today and it's all getting a bit negative on here how about a round of best royal looks? Bring back some positivity?

itswinetime · 06/03/2020 11:16

@frugalkitty I quoted that the other day in relation to Kate it was Coco Chanel that said it and I totally agree.

frugalkitty · 06/03/2020 11:19

I thought it was Chanel itswinetime just having a memory block, thanks.

Whattheother2catsprefer · 06/03/2020 11:19

If you exchanged the word 'thin' with 'fat' would it be OK to say? If not it's not OK to to say with thin either.
Lots of the royals /heads of state do the literal dressing to a greater or lesser degree but it only ever seems to be used as a stick to beat Kate with.

catspyjamas123 · 06/03/2020 11:52

For god’s sake. Why don’t you lot go and worry about FGM or the gender pay gap or child mental health or ANYTHING of some substance that takes your fancy. These are clothes.
