Are they in your size? If so, yes.

BuckingFrolics · 18/02/2020 11:02

No. The Police will arrest you and the whole of Society will shun you.

Wear what you like.

DevilsAdv0caat · 18/02/2020 11:06

I think wear whatever you want. Posting in S&B only reminds me that people have wildly different fashion and that the world would be boring if everyone liked the same thing, and people are a bit toxic when it comes to fashion or looks in general. Comments like "they're only for children under 13" are just another thing to put other people down and makes people feel like shit for liking what they like. Give your opinion but there is no place arsehole statements.

Bluewavescrashing · 18/02/2020 11:58

I have bought them OP 🎉 I love them and have always wanted some DMs. Can't be fagged with all the laces on the boots though. I opened a credit account and got 20% off but will pay off in full and close the account after payday

MrsJakeLovell · 18/02/2020 12:07

@DevilsAdv0caat yes, the message that 'when you can be anything, be kind' seems to have gone over the heads of some of the S&B mavens!

Weird when it is so high profile elsewhere on MN...

Floisme · 18/02/2020 13:23

I get as annoyed as the next person at the ageism and general nobbery on here sometimes, and have said so on many occasions. I also appreciate the current sensitivities. I still resist being instructed to 'be kind'. S&B is about opinions: the frank, the funny, the rude, the obnoxious, the not-funny-but-you-thought-it-was-when-you-posted, and yes, if push comes to shove, even the cruel and the spiteful ones, which always tell you far more about the poster than they do the op.

Anyway those shoes aren't my thing, op but that doesn't mean somebody else can't carry them off. One of the pleasures of being grown up is not having to wear what your mum (or even S&B) tells you to wear. It doesn't mean everyone will like it but, as far as I'm concerned, that's just tough.

SnoozyLou · 18/02/2020 13:33

Nothing against Doc Martens. Everything against everything else about them.

YABU

fantasmasgoria1 · 18/02/2020 13:37

Wear what you want to. When you reach certain ages you don't have to suddenly change how you dress. If you want to wear the shoes then wear them. I'm nearly 45 and. I would totally wear them!

SecretWitch · 18/02/2020 13:38

Slap them on and go have a good time! I think they not very appealing but I have been known to wear Uggs so my fashion sense is suspect.

fantasmasgoria1 · 18/02/2020 13:39

The Clarks ones don't look funky they look like a bit frumpy.

Bluewavescrashing · 18/02/2020 13:51

I live in uggs but my workplace is very hot so my feet boil in them! (Liberal dress code)

Growingboys · 18/02/2020 13:58

Ugh hideous on any age but particularly bad on a middle aged woman (I am one).

1forAll74 · 18/02/2020 13:58

I really like them, I am going to get the same when the weather is better, and I am a lot more than middle aged !

pinkmagic1 · 18/02/2020 14:03

Not to my taste at all but if you like them and they make you happy why not. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing.

TheNavigator · 18/02/2020 14:04

They are not to my taste but look comfortable and practical - apart from the twee wee ribbon, which is what pushes them into Sue Pollard territory.

Dumdumdumdidly · 18/02/2020 14:08

Well I adore them! I could never pull them off but I think dressed down with Jeans they could look great! I had a pair of doc Martin Mary Janes at Uni and they were literally the most comfortable shoe on the planet! I have a pair of Chelsea boots now and soooooooooo lovely Smile

TopShelf · 18/02/2020 14:09

I like them, wear them, op.
Where did you find them?

Jocasta2018 · 18/02/2020 14:10

More Grayson Perry than Su Pollard....

Seriously, if you like them, buy them. Life's too short!

EngagedAgain · 18/02/2020 14:10

With regards to nasty comments I don't think there are any particularly nasty ones on this thread, unless I've missed something? I wholly agree we should be careful with certain subjects and gauge if possible how sensitive an OP is, although I would err on the side of caution. There's no need to be hurtful regardless. I think most of the negatives on S&B are done in a fairly humorous way, and any OP's familiar with it know there will be some. The OP on this thread seems to be taking it in good humour? Back to subject in hand - I hanker after DM's and would like an alternative to a boot mainly because of all the laces, and make my feet look too big. The lace up shoes are a bit masculine for me, and I don't always like the yellow stitching as agsin I think it makes my feet look big even though they are not. Plus I'm a bit conservative. My heart is saying go for the wacky, but head is saying no! Think as pp's have said the overall outfit is key, and I'm not very good at putting outfits together. Not much hope then! 😂😂

BiffKipperAndTwattingChip · 18/02/2020 14:22

They're what Lea DeLaria would wear if she were going to a fancy dress party as Carmelita Spats.

ChanChanChan · 18/02/2020 14:38

My initial reaction was "Oh. No. Never."

But actually, I've changed my mind and think they would be great with the right wardrobe. In my head, those would totally go with my black dresses - which I'm currently wearing with DM boots, so why not swap those boots out for something lighter? And I'm a big fan of sparkle.

So wear with joy OP! And age has nothing to do with style.

Ellapaella · 18/02/2020 14:56

Not my cup of tea but a million times more interesting and preferable to some of the drab, utterly boring shoes and boots that we see so often on S&B (looking at you ballet pumps, loafers and Chelsea boots).
Age has nothing to do with it - if you like them then wear them.

mencken · 18/02/2020 15:00

with the exception of hair in bunches and 'Frozen' costumes, fashion is not age dependent. If it looks good, it looks good on any age.

I've nothing kind to say about things with cutesy-woo bows on them so I'll stop here!

Lordfrontpaw · 18/02/2020 16:25

Aw they're not that bad (at least they aren't pink sparkly!).

'Someone' I know (not naming names) has a pair of pinky-purple Hello Kitty shoes bought in a kids shop. They have very tiny feet and have problems getting sensible adult shoes (or proper dancers shoes for that matter) - they aren't very obviously kello kitty until you look at the back of them. (and no, it's not me).
