The pp version is less sweet :)
Very simply, lactones are the chemical compounds that smell milky/creamy.

SOTD Malin and Goetz Dark Rum. I ended up buying this yesterday with my money from MIL. I had planned to get the Diptyque geranium, but it came over really chilly on another testing.

Thanks yoikes I might get some of that later. I've decided not to buy anything else till I've been through all my samples. Miller Harris are having another sale. Grin

Didn't need to know there was a miller Harris sale, my purse can't take it... SOTD has been Jean Paul gaultier for the first time in ages

MH just don't smell of much to me...
No malone is the same...
No sillage or projection at all!
However, I'm also not a fan of chanel or guerlain either so don't listen to me :)

I'm going to try very hard not to buy perfume this month
(Mad cackle)

Hi caper! I would definitely recommend getting some samples from 4160 Tuesdays. They do some wonderful, creative scents.

yoikes I agree that the PP fireplace dupe isn't as sweet as the original.
My hard meeting perfume is always 4160 Who Knew. I think it's more because i discovered it at a time when I felt v vulnerable and it was my gateway back into perfume, and this thread. And it makes me feel strong and prepared as a result.

Can't even remember what SOTD was. But I'm up for the lucky dip from tomorrow!

I’m very fond of Miller Harris. My favourites are Cassis en Feuille, Bourbon Geranium and Fleur du Matin. I find them long-lasting, probably 4-5 hours. Not much projection, but that doesn’t worry me. Kalifornia, I also really dislike Poirier d’un Soir, there’s some note, I don’t know what it is, which I find offputting. I put it out for DH to use (he happily tries whatever I suggest) but I confiscated it after a few days and gave him Timbuktu instead. It’s now first on my list for selling!

My SOTD was a sample, now finished, of Etat Libre d'Orange Putain des Palaces. It is a sweet powdery violet with skanky undertones. A reviewer on Fragrantica was spot on with their assessment “If a man wore it, he'd smell like he fell asleep with his head in a perfectly powdered woman's crotch”! 😂.

MH's La Fumee is one of my all time favourites. I tend to find I either love or hate most of their scents.

My big meeting power scent is Chanel 19 (the EDP, not EDT). Or narciso Rodriguez (the pink one).

yoikes, for a difficult meeting I would go for something familiar and not too strong, perhaps the Avon Timeless or PP By The Fireplace?

caper I can send you a sample of Mitsouko if you like and perhaps pop a couple of others in? Just pm me.

Evening All. SotD has been Rosa Ribes which I've been reminded is a stupendously good blackcurrant chypre with phenomenal staying power. (Is it me or was there a 4160 golden period when this, Who Knew, The Great Randello, Goddess of Love and Perfume etc etc all appeared?).

My big meeting go-tos are something I made myself (a lavander/oud), or Coromandel (so stately an oriental it still works for day time), or Mitsouko (fast route to gaining a modicum.of respect from head teachers , or Yatagan (for gender non-conforming gravitas).

I have one tomorrow first thing - but in a ridiculously small room. Might run with Sycomore? Good luck with yours, Yoikes.

Good choices!!
I'm dreading it :( I'm hoping it doesn't get heated.
Still not decided on sotd...I'm off or a shower...maybe that will help me decide!

@Yoikes good luck for the meeting . I always tend to wear Cristalle for scary occasions.
Wrappings is Sotd for a frozen rain kind of day.I've never been so glad to live up a hill. There's so much flooding here. Our nearest town is really badly flooded and all this rain won't help.
Welcome to the newbies... With expensive tastes 😃.

ooh busy thread this morning Smile
I love reading all these thoughts about perfume as I have no-one else in real life who is interested. Dh is to a degree and loves nice scents and we do have chats but he drifts off topic after a while!

Today I'm wearing Eau Santa Maria Novella. I really love it but it doesn't last very long on me so I have to top it up regularly.

Last night I tried out my sample of Penhaligon's Cairo and I really didn't like it all that much. It has a harsh tone to it that unsettled me and it just didn't feel like 'me' every time I caught a whiff of it. So I can scratch that off the list!

Think I'll try my sample of carnal flower over the weekend.

I love the idea of a 'tricky meeting' (I have plenty of them!) scent but don't know what mine would be. I find if I am facing something difficult in work I like to wear something that makes me feel good so familiarity is good. I don't think I would wear something that I had not worn before (in case it turned out like Cairo and threw me then as I was a bit unsettled by smelling 'wrong')

@Calmasasleepycat that is a super generous offer. It may not work as I'm not in the UK but I'll pm you - thank you!

They have lots of MM replica variety in our department store so I'm going to try out a few more over the coming weeks. Any recommendations?

I don't have any Miller Harris and don't know much about them, must watch out for them.

I was reading about the 4160 Sexiest Scent perfume and am intrigued, has anyone here used it? What sort of scent is it? I'm thinking or ordering one of their boxes of samples and want to make sure that one is included.

This thread cheers me up no end, it's lashing here with more storms / rain on the way Sad but at least we can smell nice!

SOTD FM Hiver. I'm almost out of this, which is a shame, because I can't really afford to replace it.

yoikes Chanel 19 is always my go-to for anything I'm apprehensive about, from scary work stuff to medical appointments. Hope it goes okay.

Caper, I have replied to your pm. I’m so sorry but we’re not allowed to send perfume out of the UK without a special licence 😨.

I don’t know the MM replica range very well, but I’m very fond of MM Untitled. This is the greenest, grassiest perfume, perhaps better suited to summer. It’s a perfect example of a galbanum-heavy perfume. I managed to buy a bargain 90% full bottle from ebay some time ago. I have also tested Under the Lemon Tree. This was beautiful for a couple of hours but didn’t seem to last on me. I would need a proper tester to take away, though, to be sure.

My tester today is L’Artisan Parfumeur Noir Exquis. I love the vanilla and chestnut notes, but underlying it is a harsh amber/woods note and unfortunately this is the part that’s lasting. It’s very similar to Zadig & Voltaire This is Her (the one that yoikes has just given away!), but the Z&V is sweeter and doesn’t have the harsh note. It’s much nicer.

caper MMM do a sample set thing, which in the UK is about £25 - it's perfect for testing them all. I have full bottles of By the Fireplace, Jazz Club, and Lazy Sunday Morning, and the other one I love from the Replica range is Beach Walk. I would love a full bottle of that, but I feel like it has limited wearing opportunities because it's SO summery, and I already have Heeley Sel Marin and Tom Ford Soleil Blanc. I have Untitled too, and it is just perfect for spring.

4160Tuesdays Sexiest Scent is their best-selling perfume. I do enjoy it, but it’s not in my top ten of their perfumes. It’s very easy to wear, fresh, woodsy and long lasting. It somewhat belies its name! It’s certainly worth testing.

MrsPerks, for me the 4160 golden period was when they produced the cities range: Rome 1963, New York ‘55, Paris 1948 and London 1969. Rome 1963 is particularly amazing. My joint favourite is still Inevitable Crimes of Passion.

Today's lucky dip is 4160 Sex Goddess. Lemon sherbet.
I agree that some MH don't have much projection or sillage. The exception for me is Vetiver Insolent, which I worry is too strong. I think perhaps my nose just notices it a bit more. I hope that's true, otherwise I might be knocking people out with it!
@caperplips I got the MMM discovery set of 10 or 12 of the Replicas. I thought it was quite good value, although I'm not sure I'd buy a full bottle of any of them.

Meeting went ok...tricky situ but it was informative. Now just need a solution!

I went with estee lauder modern muse nuit in the end.

Then I came home to a lovely parcel from flora of mmm replica under the lemon trees :)

I totally get what you mean...it's quite synthetic smelling isn't it? I felt the same about whispers in the library too. Smelt like hairspray to me.

With you on Rome1963 in particular, Calm. Now on my way home to spray some. I forgot to wear anything for the tricky meeting, which was very tricky, but smelling like a Duchess probably wouldn't've helped much. Hope you're doing Ok Yoikes Flowers.
