Who are you looking forward to seeing on the red carpet tonight? Who will be the best dressed? All will be revealed in a few hours time!

Meanwhile have a look at the 100 best Oscar dresses of all time, according to Vogue, or the best vintage looks. Is it hairstyles you're after? We've got those, and best makeup looks too!

I agree she looks good as a blonde. Also I really like Jane Fonda's grey hair.

Shosha1 · 10/02/2020 13:43

I usually hate what Caitriona Balfe wears. ( that awful tulip thing she wore to GG last year). But loved both the Oscar dress and the Vanity Fair Party dress. Best dress of the night was Eiza Gonzalez at the VF party

I don’t know who Eliza Gonzalez is but that gold dress is stunning and worn to perfection.

ChanChanChan · 10/02/2020 16:05

Queen I believe Sandy Powell wore that white suit again (covered in autographs), that she wore to the Baftas. She's going to auction it to raise money for Derek Jarmon's Dungeness cottage.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 10/02/2020 16:08

Now if someone could just explain to me the thinking behind Joan Smalls’ dress?

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 16:10

I have no idea but there was a chap in a rather ugly dress and everyone was gushing about how lovely it was. No it wasn’t and no it wouldn’t suit anyone (the afternoon show ensemble wasn’t much better either).

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/02/2020 16:18

That's Billy Porter. He wears a dress and the fashion world fall over themselves to fawn over him.

I don’t know who she is but I liked Mindy Kalling’s yellow dress. Idina Menzel looked pretty. Penélope looked beautiful as ever. Scarlett looked great too.

I loved the white Gucci dress worn by Lily Aldridge at the Vanity Fair party.

There were plenty of dresses that I didn’t like and some that were just strange looking.

Lordfrontpaw · 10/02/2020 16:33

Oh. So it’s like when I scrubbed up and wore a rather fetching (and very flattering) frock to a seminar we were hosting and my colleagues were doing a double take (because I can scrub up well if I put my mind to it?)

hopeishere · 10/02/2020 16:33

Laura Dern appears to have changed for the VF party. Don't like it either.

Also Kate Bosworth?? Why is she still famous??

beanaseireann · 10/02/2020 18:41

Lordfrontpaw.
I thought his outfit was ghastly too. The top didn't match the skirt at all.
QueenoftheAndals MC, whom you referred to on the other thread is now giving a guide to modern etiquette. 🙄

Dior never seem to make anything good for Charlize. Saoirse Ronan and Joan Smalls had silly dresses.

I quite liked the ones included plus Lily Aldridge, Washington, Renee Z, Robbie and the Room/Captain Fantastic actress.

Janelle looked like a Joan of Arc space bride. Jane Fonda had a rewear. Loved the two children from Jojo Rabbit, great kids and film.

I thought Charlize looked amazing but that's more down to her DNA than her dress!

Natalie P had lovely make up, and I liked the hair but I’d prefer the dress without the heavy cloak part. I just thought of Star Wars, maybe because she was in one once.

ChipBap · 10/02/2020 19:06

Excellent space monk work by Janelle Monáe.

I miss the days of the swan and the weird backwards tux. Sigh.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/02/2020 19:23

@MarshaBradyo the cloak was just for the red carpet as she wanted to make a point about all the women directors who weren't nominated.

Charlize looks amazing, but that's because she's Charlize. Dior don't seem to make her nice gowns in general.

locoroco · 10/02/2020 23:05

Just watched the show. Brie has an amazing figure.

Auldspinster · 10/02/2020 23:20

I loved Florence Pugh's dress but the proportion was slightly off and made her look 3ft tall.

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/02/2020 07:24

Florence has such exuberance and wears some really bright shades and unusual shapes. It's nice to see someone looking original on the red carpet. Can't believe she's dating the bloke from Scrubs though!

OP posts:
Disfordarkchocolate · 11/02/2020 07:50

I loved everything about Florences' dress. It was beautifully made, suited her figure and fit perfectly. Oh to be young and that size again. She looked liked she felt fantastic in it and not many people looked like that this year.

mathanxiety · 13/02/2020 06:06

Love that dress at bottom left of your montage, thisenglishlife.

I had a lot of 'Yikes' moments at this year's Oscars.
