Now this is SERIOUS - WWW's 10year younger boot camp, SEPT 07, WEEK ONE, all welcom

WideWebWitch · 03/09/2007 08:25

Hello! This is week one (again since we all kind of limped off the last one, given school holidays etc) of the EIGHTH WWW 10year younger boot camp of 2007

Anyone can join, we promise it works and you will feel and look better - and maybe younger - if you follow these rules.

This is about being healthy and feeling and looking better as a resuklt. It's not a diet (although weight loss does seem to occur fairly frequently)

THE RULES ARE:

  • Sunscreen at all times, even thought it's Sept
  • No or little booze in the week. Wine at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can. Many of us have an Omron pedometer
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too, we recommend Flexitol, which is fantastic stuff
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that at the end of six weeks we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

I am feeling very determined, having been on a very slippery slope over recent weeks...

Have drunk lots of water ( and been peeing alot!) Went to Morrisons yesterday and bought some liquorice toffees and ave scoffed quite a few. Very bad. Will endeavour not to do the same tomorrow. Having lots of hair chopped in a couple of weeks as has post children frizz. Not attractive. Hopefully that will take a few years off. [optimistic emoticon]

bamamama - how d'you get on with the cycling?

silentterror - good work!

patsycline - sympathies on the disturbed night - I had exactly the same but with both DDs having nightmares.

rosmerta - it was MI with the swimming gloves. Talking of MI - shouldn't she be back by now .

moonshine - so what ARE you going to do for exercise?

15000 steps is goooood batters! I've done 12500, of which 4000 were running and now my legs ache! Well done everyone else.

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 05/09/2007 21:26

www - I love Refreshers. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

legalalien · 05/09/2007 21:54

two glasses of wine this evening, but i DID iron one of DH's shirts (and before you all launch into some sort of OMG he can do his own campaign, the last time I ironed one of his shirts was about 3 or 4 years ago, I just thought it would be a nice thing to do as he will be working past midnight tonight and has run out). But, old habit of sipping and ironing dies hard.

Boden jumper arrived in mail, and DS said "mummy, you will look beautiful in that", so something must be going right - he also commented, mid-"monsters inc" "nice toes, mummy" - I am hoping this is a reference to the nailpolish I had just painted on, rather than sign of some ongoing fetish.

Can highly recommend mushrooms on sourdough as a compromise "cook for yourself" meal.

www Thanks very much for the thread. I was looking out for it.

legalalien That sounds good. I had sausages with onion marmalade on sourdough bread with a garnish (and an extra order of salad) recently and that was very nice.

  • Sunscreen ~ tick
  • No or little booze ~ I'm back to one small glass a night I think
  • Walking is important ~ I only took the lift a couple of times in work today but still not enough walking done.
  • Lots of water ~ tick
  • Apply body cream as often as possible ~ oops
  • Use hand cream/foot cream too ~ I did last night for the first time in ages and it showed in my hands that they needed it
  • Go to bed early ~ oops
  • Eat healthily ~ tick. My work colleagues congratulate me on my packed lunches and snacks (brazil nuts, sunflower seeds and fruit)
  • Be happy ~ tick
bamamama · 06/09/2007 03:01

hello all, hope all the ds/dd are settling in ok.

DoNB - no cycling done as yet, it's raining today (not what I signed up for at all) so didn't like to go out. I think I'm going to wait until Saturday and rope DH in on the expedition. He can call the emergency services when I lose my balance and disappear down a ravine.
legalalien - thanks for the link, will go out and buy heel balm forthwith. I have actually seen that stuff in the shops but it has the most unpleasantly graphic photos for before and after - it's bad enough looking at my own feet!
Bootcamp is, as ever, acting as a wonderful conscience... although I do feel a bit out of synch posting when you're all tucked up in bed! Night night my dears - I'm off for lunch!

winnie · 06/09/2007 12:38

Yesterday was ok but not brilliant.
Ate a piece of homemade flapjack and a piece of homemade bread. Also didn't get enough walking in (5000 measley steps) thanks to vey busy day.
Did go to bed at 10.15 felt exhausted but couldn't sleep I was still awake at midnight

However, major move forward dd so feeling happy Today is another day and has been very good so far. As Thursdays are a long working day for me it should be easier. I also plan to go swimming after work tonight which will be great.

uptomyeyes · 06/09/2007 12:57

Well done everyone it sems everyone is succeeding on most fronts - I think I'm doing OK - though I can't be too far from the loo as my body gets used to the 2 litres of water every day. Sunscreen/feet/moisturiser/no alcohol/be happy all done.

My bike has been trapped in the garage by my builders who have erected a scaffold tower outside my house to do some work, so I can't cycle anywhere but I have already walked about 2 miles today and have another 1.5 mile round trip to pick up DS2 from school. So that should be a reasonable number of steps - must get pedometer.

Did the chocolate torte thing again last night which I am mortified about - but it was that classic get in from work with 3 kids need to put something in my mouth and quell the pangs. Anyway there is only one slice left and I'm sure the kids will eat that for me this evening.

Please can someone advise a good alternative for that late afternoon pang it looks like a few of us suffer that and it starts a rocky slope for me as I usually then start eating cheese and crackers instead of dinner.

PatsyCline · 06/09/2007 13:46

Hi Uptomyeyes - I am trying to get into the habit of having a a bowl of really fresh salady stuff (cucumbers, radish, carrots) ready to go in the fridge, so that I can munch away without guilt when I get in after the school run and then ask myself if I really do need something to eat once the 'red mist' has lifted.

It can be so hard to break bad habits. I was out all this morning (including gym), so I was ravenous by one o'clock. Seconds after I arrrived home I was stuffing my face with bread and cheese! However, I bloody forced myself to put the second sandwich and came on here for some inspiration, so thank you, Bootcampers, for saving me from myself.

bobbiewickham · 06/09/2007 14:16

Hi everyone! Can I join?

I've been writing down everything I eat or drink in a little book since Sunday - it really helps stop that automatic biscuit-hoovering thing that happens throughout the day.

I've also given up wine during the week BUT has anyone else found themselves feeling crotchety and fuzzy-headed as a result of doing this? Am shocked and hoping it's a result of giving up general crap rather than just the alcohol. Didn't think I drank THAT much.

Also done a 3 mile walk yesterday and today. Dogs are knackered!

Also, can you count weak elderflower cordial and herbal tea as water? Drinking big glasses of water makes me gag.

cerys · 06/09/2007 14:40

hello everyone! It is nice to see so many people.

Did a hard hour's training in the gym this morning and was really hungry when I came back, but managed not to raid the cupboards. Need to eat more fruit today.

Winnie, I LOVE that Liz Earle cleanser with the muslin cloths! I like how it takes mascara off too and my skin is looking brighter too.

Hope today is going well for everyone. It is hot and sunny here. My daughters finish their first day back at school in...40 minutes! It has been quiet without them and DS is missing them.

dissle · 06/09/2007 14:43

doing good, had 2litres every day and have lost half a pound since Monday....

Can I just say ta - this has been very good for me. It's hard to decide for yourself how much energy to devote to self care, but I am a list devotee, and printed this one off, AND AM STICKING TO IT!!!!

Another pound off at WW - one more and I've lost 10% of my body weight.

The water habit is still proving tricky, but getting there. In spite of an obnoxious cold, my skin is glowing.....

jaynehater · 06/09/2007 19:12

PS I've used Liz Earle for the last year - isn't it wonderful stuff? Although, I've found the muslin routine translates well with pretty much any cleanser.

bagpuss · 06/09/2007 19:41

Hello hello! I have been so busy today with back to school that I haven't had time to check in to the thread. I am feeling on top of the world today . Have had a nice catch up with all the other mums at school and one of them said I was looking slimmer . I ate no bread yesterday and my stomach was flatter this morning which is good. I also found some boots own flexitol type stuff in the bathroom yesterday and so I have started applying that - it has made such a difference already. I have walked and done a lot of housework today, drank loads of water, applied body cream, went to bed early last night and had no snacks between meals. I think I can put a tick next to everything today .

WWW, mmmm sweets, I can't remember the last time I had that much sugar.

legalalien, how sweet of your ds .

uptomyeyes, when I was dieting last year I used to eat nono low fat seeded flatbreads in the afternoon if I was hungry and drink a huge glass of water, it certainly helped me with enough fuel to keep going until dh and I ate later in the evening.

Well done to all those who have lost weight this week too .

uptomyeyes · 06/09/2007 20:16

Thanks for the snack ideas bagpuss and patsy Cline I shall action those things tomorrow!

Today has been my best so far I think - I finished my 2 litres of water at about 5pm but I have felt thirsty ever since. I wonder if I am washing salts etc out of my body fat with all this water???

DS2 (5) is currently sitting on my bed with Flexitolled feet joining in the routine!

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 06/09/2007 20:32

12,500 steps today. School run really increases my daily total plus I had a lovely long walk in the sunshine with the dog this morning.

Not enough water so will go and have another huge glass now with iron supplement (urgh).

Food good - a neighbour gave me a heap of beetroots so DD2 and I had beetroot salad for lunch. And now our poo is rather red!

Moisturiser and sunscreen etc done. No booze for weeks. Feet still look horrid - riding boots and trainers do not make for pretty feet!

Winnie, pleased for you.

PatsyCline · 06/09/2007 21:03

Things are going well today in the Frozen North.

Firstly, I had a lovely sleep last night (ended up doing late evening yoga with DD1 to help her to sleep and it worked for me too).

This morning, I parked away from shcool again, followed by a decent workout at the gym (mixture of speedy power walking and runnning for 20 minutes followed by stomach stuff).

Have had lots of herbal teas, fruit and much more water than usual. Never off the loo - must be a good sign...

I had a raisin binge today, so not quite as bad a yesterday's cake! I have also resisted the demon drink this evening despite being home alone with DDs.

Patsy

Batters & Duchess thank you

  • Sunscreen x
  • No booze ... tick
  • Walking ... 10,000 steps
  • water... 1.5 litres a day
  • body cream ... tick
  • Use hand cream/foot cream ... tick
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm will go to bed as soon as I've moved my car (the only reason I love living in the centre of a town!)
  • Eat healthily ... good all day but came home after the failed swimming and row with x and ate 3 pieces of homemade bread
  • Be happy ... mixed day work has made me very happy today but xh has been an arse and made me miserable Also went to the swimming pool to have my now routine Thursday night swim only to find the programme has changed because it's term time and I am going to have to go to the much later lane swim or the first thing in the morning lane swim

Cerys, I am glad you like the Liz Earle cleanser. Batters I haven't tried the hip and thigh stuff(I kind of figure I need to lose more fat before anything like that has an impact ) but ... I can always be persuaded

Goodnight all & keep up the good work

WideWebWitch · 07/09/2007 07:43

Good news about dd Winnie.
Agree sobernow eats enoguh to keep a gnat alive but hey, that's why she's thin and we're not

Yesterday was terrible
toast x 2, Marmite
bought sandwich, hummus and veg, 320 cal
stressful afternoon and hadn't taken any food, and I suddenly was RAVENOUS about 4pm (above was all I'd eaten) so
quavers, 100cal
chive crisps, 100cal
another random packet of crisps, no idea of cal
Kitkat, 250 cal
so oops but hey all above prob only 1000 cals
then went to a quiz night and needed to eat beforehand so had calamari, oops and garlic bread and glass white wine
then another small wine
2 coffees (was driving but not for 4 hours after wine)
came home and had roast beef sandwich and another glass of wine
bed at 11pm

Walking, must get back to walking.
