Are you wearing bootcut jeans/trousers again?

I'm seeing them everywhere at the moment. Does this mean I can dig out the ones at the back of my wardrobe again??😊

I thought I looked hideous in them.first time round.... I doubt 20 years has improved matters much

leccybill · 05/02/2020 00:23

What is girlfriend cut? I only know boyfriend!

I bought a brown leather belt from Top shop to wear with my new mid wash blue mum (I think) jeans. It feels new and different and I like it.
I've been wearing Dorothy Perkins Eden jeggings for the best part of 15 years!

PenguinsOnParade · 05/02/2020 00:24

I never stopped. Skinnies make my arse look even bigger and I feel frumpy in a straight leg. Hopefully if they're coming back I'll have more choice again though.

DarkMutterings · 05/02/2020 00:29

Girlfriend is a slightly skinnier jean than boy friend. For me they're the perfect comfy jeans, as just slightly baggy.

whatswithtodaytoday · 05/02/2020 05:11

Agreed pictish, bootcut needs a casual shoe, heeled boots look odd. And those cropped ones posted above are just weird. They're obviously too short, that's why they look wrong.

Iamnow · 05/02/2020 05:20

No.

TheAgeofAnxiety · 05/02/2020 05:50

Yes , I couldn't wait! The disproportion between my ankles and my thighs/bum means I can't understand why skinnies are considered flattering

MarmaladeTeepee · 05/02/2020 05:58

I'm the opposite, I don't like bootcuts with a casual shoe - too 90s student, I think they look way better with a heeled boot. As someone who is chunky of thigh, the combination of heels and the long bootcut flare to cover most of my foot made my legs looks semi-decent but unfortunately I have no time for heels anymore so that's out.

Steamfan · 05/02/2020 06:01

Never stopped wearing them - and couldn't care less about what's "in" or "out",

Lojoh · 05/02/2020 06:08

Noooooo. Bootcuts are just NOT for the short of leg/long of torso. They do not lengthen the leg when the top and waistline also moves. I have the most absurdly long torso - I am always taller than everyone else sitting down, even men of well over six feet. My jeans will be skinnies til I die.

I'm all in on the wide leg cords tho. I've got some sharp high waisted tweed too. Totes swanning around pretending I am Katherine Hepburn. A+ trend.

isthismylifenow · 05/02/2020 06:08

I also still wear them. Much to dd's (17) dismay Grin

But you do have to be careful with which shoes you wear with them. Never flats imo. I only wear wedges in summer or heeled boots in winter.

They suit my shape. Skinnies don't. I am not the tallest (5"6) but skinnies just make my knock knees look worse that they are lol. The bootcut sort of balances them out a bit.

squeekums · 05/02/2020 06:10

I never stopped, love flares in low rise only. There one online shop I've bought from since forever
Best style for me and so comfy. Hate skinny and straight leg, cropped is the worst. They all look so bad on me

isthismylifenow · 05/02/2020 06:14

Lojoh, I am long of torso and shorter of leg, but I just cant wear the low rise ones as those make the leg look shorter. This is why always a heel of some sort (i wear wedges mainly as cant do normal heels)

Unless I need a good look in the mirror eek....

MayorPrentiss · 05/02/2020 06:30

Thanks Lizzie and pictish - these ankle length ones are everywhere and look great but I have such stumpy legs, worry they'll be wildly unflattering on me! I see m&s have some full length - maybe I need to go to some actual shops and try on...

I always felt great in bootleg last time round, but in retrospect it was probably because I was a size 8 (at the time, probably size 4 or 6 now) and young and gorgeous. Not sure if I could pull them off now...

ItsMischerWavy · 05/02/2020 06:49

Ooooh they've always been my go to but finding the exact ones that are right for me has been a nightmare. Only recently discovered Topshop Jamie Flares and they are the absolutely best!
They flatter me and my shape a lot more than skinny jeans do when it comes to what tops to wear with them.

Floisme · 05/02/2020 07:17

Not yet but I have some Gap Long n' Leans and some Citizens of Humanity flares in the cupboard and I try them on again every so often to make sure I can still get them past my arse.

My biggest reservation is shoes as I don't do heels. In the 70s I wore them with desert boots but the last time around, the only things I felt worked were flip flops and plimsolls, neither of which are very practical most of the year.
I don't think they're any worse in the rain than skinnies, which cling when wet and leave me chilled to the bone. At least with flares you've got some distance between skin and wet fabric.

I'm strictly flares though, not bootcut. If you're going to commit, do it properly.

ExpletiveDelighted · 05/02/2020 07:19

No way, I am short-legged and they are so unflattering. Skinny, straight or boyfriend here.

Sooverthemill · 05/02/2020 07:33

Can I just contribute this helpful photo to those wondering about what style might suit them best? But wear what you want!

Are you wearing bootcut jeans/trousers again?
Sooverthemill · 05/02/2020 07:36

And though I hate low rise I do have a couple of old bootcut that I've never got rid of. I've only started wearing skinnies in the last couple of years having stuck with slim straight. Now I have wide leg, skinny, boyfriend, cropped flare. I love having a choice!

Someone said where to get wide leg cords: fat face, white stuff, hush, toast, m and s.... everywhere!

Shamazing · 05/02/2020 07:46

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo

What the hell? Who would wear any jeans like that? Grin

isthismylifenow · 05/02/2020 08:01

What is a short inseam?

For that matter what is any inseam....

Confused
Ellapaella · 05/02/2020 08:06

Next and M&S have continued to sell bootcut jeans over the last 15 years despite them not being particularly fashionable so there must have still been a market for them.
Personally I won't be wearing bootcut jeans - I think I'd struggle to find footwear that they look good with and they just scuff along the floor if worn with trainers and look scruffy.

BiBiBirdie · 05/02/2020 08:08

Again?
I've never stopped. I love them, I find skinny jeans so uncomfortable and unflattering. They actually make me itch.
I'm a size 14 with a big bum so the skinnies I buy end up ripping eventually as they fit on my legs but not my arse.
I love that flares and bootcuts are back as I've had to track them down on eBay. River Island used to do the best pairs.

Sooverthemill · 05/02/2020 09:38

@isthismylifenow you probably weren't serious but inseam is inside leg ( my inside leg measurement is 25)

Katiepoes · 05/02/2020 10:04

Lojoh may I ask where your tweed widelegs are from? I am looking and not finding any that work.
I have an ancient pair of Seven For All Mankind flares that I adore, proper 1970s style highwaist and flappy flares. They are incredibly flattering, but I can't wear them in the rain so they don't get many outings this time of year. Actual bootcut I have a lighter pair I wear in the summer, they're the right length to wear with trainers, but I have not done heeled boots with them since the 90s.

Agree with the poster that wondered who sticks to one style of jeans though, I have loads, black skinnies through to the flares and I wear them all.
