Starting back at work tomorrow for first time in 5yrs, last time I worked it was all flared and boot cut trousers. I thought this might look dated now so I bought some straight leg trousers but do they look silly with court shoes?

Your trousers look to long to me.

YeahNahWhal · 26/01/2020 08:43

Yeah, sorry, they do. You need to crop them to above the ankle. Or a get a cuff sewn in. Cigarette pants are what I'd wear with those shoes.

DerbyshireGirly · 26/01/2020 08:44

They look fine.

GaaaaarlicBread · 26/01/2020 08:45

They look too long , you either need flats , brogues or more ankle length trousers if you want those shoes .
It’s hard returning to work , especially if trends have changed ! All the best on your first day back x

JustaScratch · 26/01/2020 08:46

Have you got any ankle boots you can wear with those trousers? Ones with a heel, preferably.

itsboiledeggsagain · 26/01/2020 08:47

It is fine.
Maybe roll your ankles a bit up?

HundredMilesAnHour · 26/01/2020 08:50

Sorry OP but that looks doesn't work at all. Do those trousers actually fit you? They look very ill fitting. Too wide on the thighs and too narrow on your calves. And definitely not with those shoes. Sorry!!!!

pipnchops · 26/01/2020 08:51

Thanks for your honesty, knew it didn't look right but wasn't sure why! I have ankle boots they need a clean. Pic attached, are they better? My concern is you can kind of see the top of the boot through the trouser.

7/8, cropped skinny or cigarette type trousers are what you need, worn with a brogue, ankle boot or flat. I’d wear those shoes with a skirt.

pipnchops · 26/01/2020 08:53

This is what it would look like if I took the trousers up an inch is that better?

Your trousers are too long. They don’t look great in either pic. If they are tucked into the boot or the hem folded up with the shoes how do they look?

TableNiner · 26/01/2020 08:55

Yes shorter is much better, think you could even go a little shorter

puds11 · 26/01/2020 08:55

X post! Can you go another inch?

EugenesAxe · 26/01/2020 08:55

I think the taken up trousers look OK with the court shoes.

esmerelda1988 · 26/01/2020 08:56

I would try and roll them up so they hit just above the ankle

fuzzymoon · 26/01/2020 08:57

The boots are wrong for wearing under trousers.
The trousers are too long and not a great fit on you.
If you can return the trousers could you shorten them and wear with flat brogue style shoe.
It's horrid working out what to wear.

endoflevelbaddy · 26/01/2020 08:57

I'm not sure if it's just the picture but they look enormous on you. They look baggy like old fashioned jodhpurs around your hip / thigh and are way too long.

You look like you have a great figure under there so I'd be going for a cigarette pant and those shoes, with a blouse / silky vest and nice blazer.

Hush have a couple of lovely ones in the sale at the minute, so to a recent work meeting I wore black cigarette pants (ankle length), court shoes, black high neck blouse from Zara with a dark green velvet blazer from Hush.

My usual uniform would be the same pants / blouse / longer shirt with mid heels and and a Mac as I work in the field and am in and out of the car and traipsing round hospitals.

I really like gap trousers for work - their classic straight and skinnies work well, their skinny khakis are really comfy (got in outlet shops recently) and if you get on mailing list you'll never pay full price. They sometimes have the curve skinnies which are great for a larger backside like mine Wink

Minky35 · 26/01/2020 08:57

Yes shorter is better, this is a popular look now (hopefully pic attaches)

Boots tucked in (my husband thinks I look like Sam fox in the 80s)

I think that looks much better. I would be buying some trousers like the ones @Minky posted though for future.

puds11 · 26/01/2020 09:00

No, not the boots. Court shoes with trousers rolled up. Good luck with your first day back Flowers

pipnchops · 26/01/2020 09:00

Pic this time!
