New year, new decade, new thread. Come join us for friendly fashion chat, you can agonise over the right length to wear your jeans or deliberate the exact tone of lippy. A frivolous space in tricky times. All welcome.

Evening all. How is everyone doing?
My Next Label Mix loungewear arrived and is just fab. Trousers are lovely and long, fairly bright waisted, I would have preferred an elastic aged waist rather than drawstring but it’s not a biggie. The cardigan is lovely. Great sleeves and some fab cable detail down the front. Really pleased.

DryWhiteagainW · 06/11/2020 22:52

Oh love that Shop, looks good quality and cosy too.

shopafrolic · 11/11/2020 10:53

God did I kill the thread AGAIN!?

Stokey · 11/11/2020 11:28

I love the 🌈 loungewear Shop. If you were going to choose one, would you go for the trousers or cardie? Thinking of asking for one for Xmas.

What retinol do people use/recommend? I've just finished a GOW one so was looking for a new one. I was going to get The Ordinary but it's OOS.

CarolineBingley · 11/11/2020 11:45

@shopafrolic

God did I kill the thread AGAIN!?
Grin Sorry hon just horribly busy.

@Stokey you need @shopafrolic or @justasecond to answer on retinol they are the beauty queens!!

@maradesbois how is new work look going?

I have been having fun with high street lockdown over the last 3 months. I bought this Somerset by Alice Temperley tie neck jumper this week, which I adore. I am not quite sure what this phase is but I am very into florals and pretty bow thingsGrin

How is everyone doing?

CarolineBingley · 11/11/2020 11:47

Gah! I meant to add I love the loungewear too!

shopafrolic · 11/11/2020 11:51

Phew! There you all are.
@Stokey if I could only have one I’d do the cardigan for sure. In terms of retinol I used the Indeed labs one with the yellow lid and liked it. For something more luxurious I’m currently using Sunday Riley Luna. It’s lovely but I think my skin could probably cope with a higher %.
Loving the new florals and bows @CarolineBingley perfect for Zoom Smile and general princessing.

maradesbois · 11/11/2020 12:59

It’s your Margaret Thatcher phase @CarolineBingley Grin. You are still my lockdown fashion inspiration! Today is Zara leopard print long shirtdress with Alighieri pendant, little bit of makeup and swishy hair that dried well. Seeing the good hair was the only positive of this morning’s 2 hour video call.

Great loungewear indeed Shop. Part of me is tempted by a full trackie from these guys Sporty&Rich, love their IG feed. Was going to ask DH for cashmere loungewear for Christmas but we get plagued by moths. Put all my jumpers in the airless plastic bags over summer but even so my gorgeous forest green Brora knit has been destroyed. The seal must have broken.

@shopafrolic what percentage was the SR retinol you loved? I’ve only ever used the ordinary ‘beginner’ one then Niod NAAP but not sure it did much so could probably go higher.

Hope everyone is bearing up under lockdown 2. Am finding it a lot harder this time round and trying not to get my hopes up too much about vaccine as such early days. Sending love.

CarolineBingley · 11/11/2020 17:34

Margaret Thatcher phase....Oh that properly made me laugh @maradesboisGrin. Love the sound of your outfit and like the link you sent (surprised they're closed for online sales though)

OMG if I had yours and Dry's hair i would sit on zoom calls all day just swishing my hair looking smug. I wouldn't say anything at all, just swish my hair!!

Lockdown 2 going okay. I have been horribly busy at work, this is the first time in a mont that i feel i have put my head above the water for air . I think because the weather is still relatively mild, walks and playing in the garden is fine. Reality might bring me down soon though. Hope you're doing okay? Everyone at work is really down, not helped by spending most of the last week glued to the US events!

shopafrolic · 12/11/2020 14:34

@maradesbois Luna is a low % retinol - Sunday Riley have a higher one I believe. Caroline Hirons skinfreaks rave about MediK8 for retinols.....
Hospital appointment today so I dressed up a bit Grin Bella Freud bright pink sweater, Me&em wide leg black trousers and white and black Vejas, oh and Rockins facemask

shopafrolic · 12/11/2020 14:36

Sporty & Rich site won’t let me look at the product but since I am neither Sporty nor Rich it’s probably not for me Grin

libertyonhertravels · 14/11/2020 08:30

Great loungewear shop.

Feeling for you all with the 2nd lockdown. But small signs of hope with Biden win and vaccine progress.

Bought new Adidas Stans last week with bronze metallic stripes. Nice to have fresh new trainers for summer.

I'm into my last 4 weeks in my job, current house etc so busy getting packed up, saying goodbye, applying for jobs.

OP posts:
libertyonhertravels · 15/11/2020 07:36

Actually I didn't buy Stans - I bought these superstars Smile

And today I bought this dress.

shopafrolic · 15/11/2020 11:06

Love both links @libertyonhertravels that dress looks like the perfect summer throw on.
No real style news here. I dressed up yesterday to stay at home Hmm full make up. I mean I say dressed up, skinnies, Acne boots, Karen Mullen fishnet jumper. Was chuffed with myself that I’d made an effort but did pretty much nothing all day.
Today I’ve reverted back to Sweatty Betty joggers and sweatshirt.
I’m becoming skincare obsessed at the moment. Have upped my routine in an effort to lessen my pigmentation. Using more actives - Vit C serum in the morning, acid toners and a gentle retinol at night. So far so good but for some reason it’s not helping my horrific dark circles under my eyes and saggy jowels around my mouth. Grin

VivaVegas · 15/11/2020 12:43

Sadly spending my time on the dating in your 40s and 50s threads. Ladies, it's a nightmare!

It's funny isn't it that now getting dressed up seems the exception and a treat. I cannot wait to be able to go out again. Managed a night out the Tuesday before the lockdown, drinks with a guy who for once I found attractive and we got on, looked promising. Nice to be dressed up and out. Had a second outside coffee date, again went really well, he called, he messaged, agreed a third date on Wednesday then the day before cancelled and said he didn't want to see me again 😩

To cheer myself up have ordered these lovely boots and this lipstick set

If anyone knows any nice, single and solvent men in my neck of the woods, please let me know!

CarolineBingley · 15/11/2020 17:00

I love all the links @VivaVegas and @libertyonhertravels. actually those boots are very @shopafrolic!

@VivaVegas dating in your 40s/50s sounds like hard work, but really glad you're exploring the possibilities. Covid doesn't help though, sending you good man vibesGrin

Yesterday was a pj day (as in I stayed in them all day!) and today has been cashmere jogger day. First time i have worn them this autumn/winter season. So cosy. Goes well with roast chicken Sunday lunch and a nice Pinot noir! Hope everyone having a good weekend.

MissKittyKitty · 15/11/2020 21:33

Just lost a really long post trying to do a link Angry

I've just had a good catch up on all your chatter and really like all the links.

Viva Flowers it's time to crack open The Rules and play hardball.

This is the short version of my post. Grin

maradesbois · 15/11/2020 21:43

Love the bronze metallic on your superstars @libertyonhertravels

@shopafrolic thanks for retinol advice. I have terrible under eye circles atm, don’t know if they are new or I just notice them more because the mask wearing accentuates them! Let me know if you find any miracle cream/serum.

@VivaVegas god men can be so strange, there will be plenty of decent ones in the OLD pool too though, hang in there! It does seem to be the key way to meet someone at any age, pretty much all of my colleagues mainly 20s but also 30s and 40s who’ve met partners since I’ve known them did Hinge, Bumble etc. New boots are badass!

@CarolineBingley that sounds like a lovely cosy lockdown weekend, lockdown or otherwise.

I went for a run this morning to blow away the cobwebs, otherwise haven’t left the house since Friday as it has been raining constantly. Very envious of you going into summer @libertyonhertravels. Am finding this lockdown so hard compared to spring but read a detailed article today about the vaccine progress made by the Turkish/German scientist couple and it sounds very hopeful.

shopafrolic · 15/11/2020 22:06

@VivaVegas love the boots and the LE lipstick colours are divine. Sorry to hear about the dating stuff. Hard work at the best of times but even tougher during lockdown. I met MrShop online though so it is possible - hang in there.
@maradesbois the only thing that helps my dark circles is giving up booze - hence why I have shares in concealer as that is never going to happen.
I’ve just ordered some Dad jeans from TS in an effort to get out of skinnies. Not sure if they’ll be me but loving all the oversized silhouettes like these pics.

Dad jeans here

shopafrolic · 16/11/2020 18:36

Ordered these trousers in the hope of wearing them with chunky knits over Christmas but they are so short on me it’s ridiculous. Disappointing as their trousers are normally perfect for me.

MissKittyKitty · 16/11/2020 18:51

Oh what a shame Shop as they are gorgeous trousers.

Stokey · 16/11/2020 20:33

I like those Shop but don't know if I'd be too short to pull off similar.

Great biker boots Viva and love the lippy. I wore some lipstick for the first time in months last week and it felt good (even though it smeared on my mask!).

Love the summer dress too Lib, wish we didn't have winter ahead.

Feels tough not having anything to look forward to. Some friends were booking a Centre Parvc's type place for NYE but I just don't know what it'll be like if you can't socialise or use the pools. Also don't know if we can see my in-laws over Xmas as they're over 70 & live in the middle of nowhere so would hate to risk them getting ill.

I keep buying boots and sending them back. Just tried these &OS Chelsea boots but they're just a bit too hard so don't feel very comfy. I think I'm not sure exactly what I want. It's tricky when you're barely leaving the house!

VivaVegas · 17/11/2020 10:08

Stokey I agree it's so hard not having things to look forward to.

My family are over 200 miles from me so I've no idea if I'll be able to see them for Christmas. But if I can't it'll just be DS and I as I only have EXHs family nearby. Would be a pretty rubbish Christmas for both of us if that the case!

Normally by now I'd be looking forward to Christmas nights out, buying presents etc but this year it's just nothing!

I've started to use any opportunity to dress up as wfh I'm always in sportswear of jeans with a presentable top for video calls!

My friend who told me about the lipstick sets had used one of the sets to do full make up for going on a dog walk - just because she needed to feel like she was going out somewhere!

Boots and lipstick have been dispatched, hopefully they'll get done use one way or another!

shopafrolic · 17/11/2020 16:14

Viva your friend sounds right up my street, I went on the school run yesterday in full make up, Rockins pink leopard print silk mask and a fedora hat.
Christmas is going to be so strange, am forcing myself onwards for the benefit of miniShop but if I had my way I would just not bother this year. Feels pointless. Really missing my ILs who I have a better relationship with than my own DM. Family in Holland won’t be able to come over, we are normally 12 round here on Christmas Day, as it stands we’ll be 4 this year. Sad
