New year, new decade, new thread. Come join us for friendly fashion chat, you can agonise over the right length to wear your jeans or deliberate the exact tone of lippy. A frivolous space in tricky times. All welcome.

One fashion change for me during lockdown is that I have gone from wearing dresses during my work day to tops and jeans. I was keen to keep up the fashion standards so over the last few months I have worn more decorative tops as they stand out more on Zoom calls whereas usually I would prefer block colours. I feel like I have been channelling my inner @maradebois each timeGrin. All my purchases have been high street because it’s so not me that it feels like dipping a toe in water.

Yesterday’s work at home outfit was this Alice Temperley blouse with blue Gap jeans. Accessorised with sapphire and diamond earrings and matching ring. I adore that topGrin

VivaVegas · 19/09/2020 15:16

So good it's back! Hope everyone is ok.

Be good to have done lovely links and chat to block out all the 'other stuff'!

These beauties are arriving today, hope I like them as have been coveting them for ages https://www.whistles.com/product/dahlia-lace-up-boot-30641.html#cgid=BootsShoesWW&is=false&sz=60&start=0&pid=dahlia-lace-up-boot-30641&pos=0

VivaVegas · 19/09/2020 15:17

Can't even remember how to link 🙄

Blownaway22 · 19/09/2020 15:39

Oh it’s lovely to see you lot posting again. I’ve followed these threads for years, posted once or twice under different user names and have missed your fab links! I am another whose waistline has expanded over the last 6 months and I really ought to do something about it!!

Love those R&B boots!

justasecond · 19/09/2020 18:33

Hello ladies!!! I'm so glad you're all still here. I have been thinking of you all and hope everyone is well.
I am knee deep in building work so not much going in style wise although I did buy some By Far boots in the sale which I'll find and link. Sadly I also have a few pounds to shed, not acquired during lockdown but from not having a kitchen for the last 6 weeks and eating a lot of unhealthy takeaways and processed foods!
Building work post lockdown has been challenging with poor availability and long wait times but the end is in sight now. I just hope it looks OK in the endSmile I compromised on my dream kitchen as couldn't wait 7 months for itShock
Love to you all xxx

CarolineBingley · 19/09/2020 18:35

Those are great boots Dry and Viva (waves!). I could wear Dry’s one but don’t have the long body shape like Viva to do those Whistles ones justice.

Love that tiger top Lib

Hello OneSmile! And to @Blownaway22 hope you continue to post.

Another work outfit from this week was this printed French connection top. I haven’t got anything from French Connection in years but it hangs beautifully. Again worn with Gap jeans and the earrings I linked earlier.

Stokey · 19/09/2020 18:37

Hey team, lovely to see you back Dry, Marsha, Shop, Caroline, Lib, Viva and hello to newbies. Have missed you! Feels very serendipitous as haven't been on here in yonks & just came to check out something about schools.

I've also put on weight and been a bit ill (non Covid related) so could do with some light relief. I bought a Rixo dress in the sales but it's still sitting in my wardrobe with the tags on. Like your idea of doing meetings with a nice top Caroline

I'm after some boots too, like yours *Vegasx but need more stompy ones. Was thinking something along
these lines but a lower price point 🤞.

And hope others are all doing well Queen C, Blingy Dream , Kitty , MarvellousMrsM, Everyone. Big Love to all you gorgeous folk

CarolineBingley · 19/09/2020 18:47

hello @justasecond! You liked one of my posts on FB this week and I meant to ask how you wereSmile

We had planned building works for this summer but that went awry so you’re brave! Bet @Stokey is glad she got hers done in time!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 19/09/2020 19:01

I may or may not, depending how it looks when its dry, have dyed my hair purple! Shock its so long now, just past my waist, heading down, i didnt think it would get this long but it keeps on growing!!

Style wise, nothing has changed for me but ive ditched the fifties dresses and am soemwhat more like the old goth i used to be but its not....extreme, im not young enough now to get away with a lot of what i used to wear so its still band t-shirts, cardigans and boots but theres a lot of tartan skirts, and blackest velvet now!!

maradesbois · 19/09/2020 19:47

Omg we are back!!!!!!

I haven’t been on MN for an age but had Vogue nostalgia after chatting with the lovely Shop irl the other day - had to double check how to bold it’s been so long!

So lovely to hear news of sequinned dresses, Veja high tops and of course see so many familiar names.

CarolineBingley · 19/09/2020 19:58

love Mara's "OMG we are back!!!!!!"Grin

@Stokey I can't see the second link but the Rixo dress is lovely.

One, purple hair?Shock lol, that's so fabulously you!

Itsmybirthday19 · 19/09/2020 20:04

In the spirit of the revival, I will rejoin. You would know me as a yellow semi-precious Stone...

Glad to see you all here... I have some handbag news...

Itsmybirthday19 · 19/09/2020 20:07

One my hair is now bright red, though you've probably seen on FB...

maradesbois · 19/09/2020 20:11

Am trying to work out who everybody is Grin

MNV

That Rico dress is a beaut Stokey

I’ve barely bought any clothes over past few months apart from Sweaty Betty! Just before lockdown I spent some of my work bonus on 4 dresses (all but one as of yet unworn) and an APC bag which is still in the marbled box but did buy these trainers today for my new wfh walk everywhere lifestyle.

I miss office culture and having like minded people to make an effort for as well as a clear divide between work and family life. Don’t miss the morning rush, makeup every day, takeaway coffee, prêt lunches etc. Not sure when I’ll wear heels again either. They suddenly seem curiously outdated.

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2020 20:25

itsmybirthday I saw your bag....wel jel

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2020 20:25

HUGS.....my typos have not improved during lockdown

shopafrolic · 19/09/2020 20:51

So Dry still hasn’t sussed auto correct
Mara so sad we couldn’t meet this week. miniShop had a tummy bug so all plans postponed for a little while.
So, lockdown has been a strange time, we have been lucky in that MrShop has not been affected financially so I have saved my £££ for some investment purchases.
finally got my Markus Lupfer
and my Bella Freud
some JBrand jeans
and some trousers for loungewear
I have my eye on some Grensons for AW, some houndstooth wide leg trousers and some a blazer from blazer but much more considered purchases now.
It felt wrong to link stuff during the height of the crisis. Lovely to be back with all my friends.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 19/09/2020 21:02

itsmybirthday i saw your new handbag and was and remain appropriately envious!! also your red hair is fabulous!

I bought too many pairs of dr martens during lockdown and they are only just being worn now im allowed out and about. At least i have plenty of footwear for winter!!

caroline yes, its avery very dark purple but i like it, in some lights it looks black until the brighter lights hit it then it is very obviously purple. I look very much like my late Mum, she had naturally almost black hair and i look the spit of her especialyl with how long my hair is now

CarolineBingley · 19/09/2020 21:11

So I'm not normally a trainers fan but love the ones that Mara linked! (Mara, you know me in real lifeGrin)

Itsmybirthday, hello! Love the bag, very very you. Hope it's going well. I had missed the fab red hair and your big life change!

Good to see all your haul together like that Shop!

I have just remembered one of the mumsnet names I was missing....Blair! Hope you're okay! X

shopafrolic · 19/09/2020 21:23

Oh God I’m rubbish at name changers at the best of times let alone after so long.

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2020 21:27

I missed Mara’s trainers, really like those

shopafrolic · 19/09/2020 21:33

And I guess the other big news is that I have grown out my hair dye and am now grey. Not gonna lie it feels pretty good. I have a short grey crop. Still feels edgy and me but I was getting so fed up of the maintenance of dyeing it every 6 weeks and lockdown meant no hiding so I just grew it out. It feels quite liberating.

libertyonhertravels · 19/09/2020 21:37

Tell us the handbag news itsmybirthday....

Itsmybirthday19 · 19/09/2020 23:30

A gold Chanel 2.55 to celebrate our 10y wedding anniversary. I've also left my previous workplace after 12y (bit of a conflict of interest with DH being promoted and tbh I was fed up anyway), so I have a new but similar job I absolutely adore. Finally made it into the office last week, which was brilliant.

I'm also going to be on another game show soon, will let you know the details when I am allowed!

The main personal downside to the last six months was DD sustaining quite a harrowing injury, so my summer has been spent in and out of hospital. She is on the mend now and thrilled to be back at school, thankfully.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 19/09/2020 23:56

How is DD doing itsmybirthday? i saw your post when it happened but i dont liek to be nosy, its not very nice and im sure youve had quite enough going on with all the appointments and everything. Your bag is GORGEOUS, like i said, i remain appropriately envious and congrats to DH for his promotion and good for you in getting a brill new job you love Smile
