Every I have/had the same dilemma re buying stuff but yesterday I bit the bullet and ordered some Aesop hand wash and a facial cleanser. It's a fine line between protecting jobs and wanting people to be safe at their place of work.

I used to love Oasis and Karen Millen, Ted Baker, Gap in my 30s but I found the quality/fabric didn't match the price tag. I used to shop in Warehouse in my late teens early 20s. I'm showing my age here!

I was chatting to dh yesterday about their decline. I think with fashion you either have to pile it high and sell it cheap ie Primark/Zara/H&M or go more high end high street Massimo Dutti, Cos, JCrew etc and keep the quality consistent although Uniqlo manage to pile high and sell cheap and keep their quality at a decent standard. Who knows? Confused

Everyonelovessparkles · 15/04/2020 12:57

I suppose Uniqlo have quite a core range of products that they seem to do well - tshirts, merino knits, those down jackets. Then on top of that they have the ines core collection and a few other bits and bobs (dresses, skirts etc) but they seem to focus on doing the core stuff well. Maybe that’s how they maintain the quality / price ratio?

I think with sites like the outnet or discount codes etc from match and NAP designer has also become more accessible to the people who used to shop in Lk Bennett, Jaegar etc as the prices are similar. Yes I used to like Karen Millen, French connection and ted baker 10years ago. Though in those days I didn’t seem to think twice about spending £100 on a top whereas now I make much more considered purchases. I do think H&M and Zara have taken over the oasis / warehouse part of the market though.

To get honest kitty I don’t really need anything which is also stopping me from shopping. With no imminent holidays or work trips on the horizon, my summer wardrobe is reasonably well stocked. I did buy this Black playsuit before the site went down, which will be good for around the house / garden when it’s warmer. It’s not bad for the price.

We had some bad news regarding my gran this week. She’s in her 90s and pretty fit but everything is starting to shut down slowly and she has cancerous growths in multiple places. Not sure how long she has left - could be weeks but could be months. We’ve always been pretty close and it is very upsetting to think i might not see her again if the lock down / movement goes on for months. It’s just such bad timing. Especially as the last time I saw her at Xmas, everyone had that sickness bug so we didn’t really see much of her as tried to keep her away from it.

kittyhello · 15/04/2020 19:05

Every am really sorry to hear about your poorly gran. Really hope you are able to see her and spend some time with her soon. Thanks

justasecond · 15/04/2020 23:18

Sorry to hear about your gran Everyone such a tough time for the elderly in particular at the moment. I hope you will get to spend time with her.
Kitty Flowers
Love your scarves Lib I love the autumn colours on you.
Have not been well, pretty sure it was Covid. Had high fever, chills, cough, nausea and aches and exhaustion. Luckily I got better after few days but it was quite scary as can't remember feeling so ill. Without an antibody test won't know for sure if that's what it was. Thankfully am fully recovered now. It was hard isolating from the rest of the family. DD got sick too but not as bad as me and dh just had a cough.
Have been back at work for a few hours each day this week so have had to wear proper clothes again. Love these zara baggy jeans at the moment. As comfortable as joggers but a small step up!
dream The bb cream is really nice. I got it in nude which is quite neutral toned and not too yellow. Quite good coverage too, probably similar to my Armani luminous silk foundation.

libertyonhertravels · 18/04/2020 11:24

everyone thanks for the lovely compliment about my accessories. It's funny how personal style works. Some people look so good with a simple, parec back look but I really need something added to look good. Lately earrings have become a big thing for me - if I don't have a scarf I need some statement earrings. Sorry to hear about your grandmother. It's particularly hard when you can't spend time with her.

Sorry to hear you haven't been well justa. This virus is a nasty one for so many people.

Lockdown over here includes no online shopping Shock. We'll hear on Monday if we're moving to 'level 3'. At that level online shopping will be allowed and schools will open in a limited way for children of essential workers only. I'm sort of hoping they keep the current level of lockdown for another 2/3 weeks as could mean we eliminate it but the pressure to get the economy moving again is huge.

I have zero shopping mojo. I need some boots (thinking flat Chelsea Boots) but everything else on my list from a few weeks ago I just feel really 'meh' about. It's like none of it matters.

Thinking of you all and feeling sad that a MU this year or even next is probably unlikely for me.

Current favourite statement earrings. From Lovisa - Aussie/NZ equivalent of Claire's Accessories Grin. A gift from a friend. Love them.

Sorry to hear you haven’t been well justa, hope you’re feeling better now. A colleague had the dreaded C virus and it is taking her a a fair few weeks to recover.

I know what you mean lib about some people being able to make a simple outfit of jeans and a tee look great, whereas when I do it it just looks like I haven’t made any effort. I agree that a scarf or jewellery can
lift those type of outfits. Cool earrings! Pretty shade of blue. Glad things are looking promising in NZ. Didn’t realise there was no online shopping though. Does that also include groceries? I guess they might need to loosen some of the criteria in order to get the economy moving.

Can’t believe the scenes in America though 😱. It’s scary.

libertyonhertravels · 19/04/2020 08:43

US is scary. From over here UK looks pretty grim too. I'm glad I'm not working there in this.

There is online shopping for groceries but nothing else. No takeaways etc. I'm craving a good coffee!!

CarolineBingley · 19/04/2020 09:39

Lib, I absolutely loved your selfie from last weekend. That mustard colour really suits you and the tiger print scarf and the "Claire's accessories" earrings are lovely.

@Everyonelovessparkles I am so sorry about your gran. What sad times. i hope you get to see her again. Thanks I am the ultimate online shopper but I haven't bought anything either through this crisis (except groceries) because I am conscious that there are people in warehouses that I end up putting at risk. I was also gutted about the Warehouse and Oasis administrations. That's where I usually get cheap summer/holiday stuff (clearly not shopping my age!), especially where something is fashionable but i know it's a one year thing.Grin. The high street was already being decimated but I think the economic crisis that is about to hit us will probably lead to the end of a lot of retailers.

@justasecond yikes poor you. Are you fully recovered now?

I am on about 10 video conference work calls a day so from an S&B perspective I am still making sure that I am put together but being a little creative about it and using stuff that I don't normally use - including creams, perfumes, make up and jewellery. The eye shadow I have that doesn't quite work in real life seems to look okay over on video so I have been using that eye shadow, which means it's not wasted. The blusher that broke in pieces when I took on a flight is the one that I am using as I normally never have time to apply it properly so again not wasting it. lockdown means I am challenged with the ever changing weather, and therefore warmth in the house. Still trying to dress professionally where I am not too smart (as that would be weird) but not too casual (equally weird and helps maintain the divide between home and work). With the ever changing weather I have worn everything from wool dresses to Breton cotton sweaters to Bardot tops.

Stay safe and healthy Voguettes x

Everyonelovessparkles · 19/04/2020 09:58

I’ve taken some inspiration from the ‘princessing’ thread and am using up all the face masks, body moisturisers etc that I am usually too lazy / busy to use. Not noticed much difference yet Grin but it does make me feel better. The last few days I had been feeling pretty fed up and had just been wearing gym leggings / joggers but yesterday I made some effort and it made me feel so much better - wore my red hush marina skirt with an abstract heart print that looks a bit like leopard print and navy T-shirt and did some light make up and it really lifted my mood.

lib the news here is pretty grim, I guess I’m in my suburban bubble and we back onto a park so can hear the birds sing and it’s all green when I look out of the window, so forget what it must be like in densely populated areas.

shopafrolic · 21/04/2020 16:17

Hi all, not much to report here but just dropping in to say that these linen vest tops one pink, one black arrived today and are very good quality. They come up quite wide so size down if you don't want a loose fit.
Sending love and strength to all who need it.
x

Stokey · 23/05/2020 08:34

Hello, I woke up thinking of you all and then it took me an age to find the thread. Guess not much fashion going on these days!

My standards are pretty low, I try to remember to wear a proper bra if I have a video call 😂.

How is everyone coping? We've had two 14 day stints of total isolation. Dd2 had a temperature right at the start, 2 days before schools closed. Doubt it was C-19 but put us all in iso. Then pretty sure DH had it about 4 weeks ago. He went to collect our new kittens & stopped at a petrol station, and then 5 days later developed a raging temperature. Luckily he didn't have it badly and was pretty much recovered within a week, but did mean the rest of us had to isolate for another week. We're both working (I do 4 days) & managing home school so it's all a huge juggling act, but at least we're still being paid. Thankful every day that we finished the extension before this all kicked off.

I haven't bought much but did get a lovely blue leopard print dress which is perfect for the hot weather. Got a midi skirt from the same lady too.

Also some black paper bag shorts from H&M which are great.

Have not joined the great exercise revolution as barely have time to do a daily walk, have put on so much weight without my daily commute. I think it's called "fattening the curve"!

Anyway hope you are all ok, big love all round.

shopafrolic · 29/05/2020 11:20

Hey Stokey I didn’t want to leave you hanging. I lost the thread completely. Not sure if everyone is fed up with fashion chat.
We’re ok here. Lucky that MrShop can WFH and is busier than ever. Home schooling is a nightmare with a boy who panics easily and a full days timetable but we’re doing our best.
In fashion news I tried some H&M denim paper bag shorts but they didn’t work for me.
I bought this playsuit which is fab and was a bargain. Great for slinging on at home and still feeling fairly put together.
I also completely copied Sali Hughes in the pic attached and bought the Hush jumpsuit and Grenson sandals which I adore.

In other news I got a DM from Alexandra Shulman having messaged her to say how much my 83 year old Mum is loving her latest book. Such a lovely lady and I am totally fan girling.
Not much else to share. I think of you all loads and hope everyone is coping. Sending lots of love ladies.

Thanks Shop, can picture you in the Sali outfit & love your playsuit.

Thank God the weather's been fantastic.

How lovely of Alexandra Shulman.

Stay well everyone X

Just checking in to say hello to all the MNVers and to say you are hugely missed by so many. I know some of you have been having a tough time of late so Flowers and Cake to you all.

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2020 09:59

Helloooooooo....have missed this happy place.
My Covid news...put on half a stone, drank gin 97 days out of first 100 Shock, took to wearing elasticated waists and slippers with a nice top and make up for zoom work.
I’m missing heels.
I’ve bought a sequinned dress in the sale for Xmas parties Sad idiot....will wear it whatever happens.
Now I’ve started running....awful.
Squeezed my feet I to work shoes.
And I’m about to make a considered purchase for autumn......
I miss the thread.

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2020 10:01

Deauville do I know you?
If you are who I think you are, I have missed you. Such a chic lady.
If you’re not, I’ve still missed you.....we need links and inspiration.
And to make it to 100 after so many years.

MarshaBradyo · 19/09/2020 10:04

Hello!

How lovely to see this. I am just posting as going out but back later to post properly

DryWhiteagainW · 19/09/2020 10:05

I’ve been listing about these boots for a while. Need a mid heel knee boot to wear for work with midi dresses. These are gorgeous irl, classic, elegant, not very exciting but an investment I think.

CarolineBingley · 19/09/2020 10:14

Hellooo too!

Thanks for the shout out @LoveFromDeauville and @SouthernFashionista

Dry, I always love your Xmas outfits but that's optimistic!

Lockdown, worked far too hard but have kept up my fashion standards on Zoom calls. Will try and do a few links.

I was only thinking earlier this week about this thread. Huge hello to @Stokey @Everyonelovessparkles @justasecond @kittyhello @BerniceBobsHerHair @Themarvellousmrsm @Dreamqueen @maradebois

Aargh couple more in my head except I am thinking of their real life names and struggling to remember mumsnet names!Blush

shopafrolic · 19/09/2020 10:23

Hi everyone. How nice to be missed. Will be back later with links and bits but waving to all for now.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 19/09/2020 10:41

I too have bought a sequin dress dry black of course, of course, but i dont know if its too optomistic hoping for xmas nights out and parties!!

Miss you voguers

libertyonhertravels · 19/09/2020 11:37

Oh it's nice to see this on the front page again Smile. I miss this space so much. I was just looking at my 'roaring 20's' intro and shaking my head at how much worse things have got Sad

But onwards and upwards my lovelies. I hope everyone is ok. Style has taken a bit of a back seat but I always find the 'get up, dress up and show up' mantra serves me well.

Recent good purchases...

Tiger t-shirt

Veja high tops

And over lockdown I indulged in some lululemon leggings and a hoody - I'm now a convert.
