New year, new decade, new thread. Come join us for friendly fashion chat, you can agonise over the right length to wear your jeans or deliberate the exact tone of lippy. A frivolous space in tricky times. All welcome.

Picking up from here

The teal bits are just a scribbles but depending how I tie it they really stand out. It's a picture of a graffitied wall damaged in the Christchurch earthquake printed on silk. Was a bit of a splurge purchase about 5 years ago but I wear it all the time.

I'm living a surreal feeling life, frantically busy at work then get caught by surprise when I emerge into the lockdowned world. Probably the same for most people in essential services.

I had a meeting today where the words 'we can call in the army' to help were used - how is this real life???

Hope everyone is well and coping.

Bernice those boots are awesome and totally you ♥️. (Also adore your floor tiles Smile)

Ditto that hoodie shop. Perfect.

Keep being amazing Lib

Everyonelovessparkles · 02/04/2020 14:11

Great scarf lib. Really unique.

Hope mrm and mrdream are feeling better.

Hope you are feeling ok too one. How are the compression tights?

No fashion mojo here. Waiting for warmer weather so I can get my legs out! Currently just wearing various comfy trousers and jumpers.

Hope everyone is doing ok. If anyone is in touch with missing voguettes such as blair, mara and queenc hope they are all ok too.

shopafrolic · 02/04/2020 18:17

I chatted with Mara over the weekend and she was all good Smile

CarolineBingley · 04/04/2020 21:57

Oh wow, I couldn't find the thread at all!

Just scrolled back a bit and wanted to give huge virtual hugs to you @kittyhello. I am so sorry about the loss of your dm.Thanks

Working from home the last 3 weeks, I am constantly on video calls so my top half is smart casual, the bottom half is yoga pantsGrin. Thursday and Friday, I decided to mix it up and wore knitted dresses. I finally got round to using moisturising gloves because all the hand washing and using dettol seems to have made my hands dry. Definitely recommend it.

Hope everyone keeping safe. Huge hugs to all the unwell Voguettes and families.

libertyonhertravels · 05/04/2020 05:27

Quick OOTD post. Midi length Toast denim skirt, burgundy and beige cotton jumper from kiwi brand Kowtow, kakhi Puma suede trainers. Gold hoops.

Having a rare day off and making dolls clothes with DD which is good fun. She's out the back garden now with DH putting up the tent. They are going to have a 'camping' night! Anything to relieve the lockdown boredom. I'm going to stay indoors and have the bed and Netflix to myself Smile

Had a family roast dinner last night. Trying to mark the weekends. We all dressed up.....which meant no joggers. Felt nice to have red lipstick and shoes on.
Liberty I love that scarf. The colours are so right for you.
CarolineB like you I’m working on video links now. I’m wondering whether it might be more professional for me to wear my work clothes too. I’ll need the whole lot though as I’m standing up a lot too.
Ordered some new slippers.....that’s the most exciting fashion thing that’s happened to me in 3 weeks!!!!!

libertyonhertravels · 05/04/2020 11:51

I'm getting fully dressed for WFH but that's because I'm often having to go in at short notice especially to deal with staff issues. Also DD seems to respond better and registers that I'm working if I wear work clothes so pesters me less.

Carolineb what are these moisturizing gloves you mention? My hands are very dry with the non stop washing.

OP posts:
kittyhello · 06/04/2020 19:16

Thank you everyone for your kind words xx

Lib such great colours in your scarf, you describes it well.

Bernice great Grenson's

I haven't done much WFH but when I do it's smart top half and jeans on the bottom, I don't have to stand up!

Is anyone else dressing up to go to the supermarket? I find myself putting lipstick and mascara to go to for my weekly shop!

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 06/04/2020 20:13

the compression tights are...weird, thanks for asking everyone its a fight to get them on but once they are on, they look like very opaque black tights so they are okay for wearing with all my clothes as its a very rare day im seen without some kind of tights on!

i must confess my shopping sins and admit i bought two new pairs of dr marten boots, one is black glitter and the other is black with sequin and embrodiered red hearts and roses on them

libertyonhertravels · 07/04/2020 09:12

How many pairs of Doc Martens do you own now one? The new ones sound fab.

Have you sorted out your DM's funeral yet kitty? I have been thinking about you.

OP posts:
kittyhello · 07/04/2020 16:46

Aw thank you Lib my mum's funeral was at the end of March, and whilst we had to keep it small I'm grateful she was able to have one and that we were able to say our goodbyes. I'm reading such awful situations whereby funerals have been cancelled and close family unable to attend due to self isolating it truly is an awful time.

How is the Coronavirus situation in NZ Lib?

shopafrolic · 07/04/2020 20:36

Yes Kitty - make up (and face mask) on for supermarket. Madness. Today I wore my Love not War Pam Hogg for Warchild tee, Armani skinnies and my hi tops that Lib chose. Not madly dressed up but way better than the last few weeks.
I've felt so teary today and a bit overwhelmed. Hard to stay positive for miniShop. I dropped some shopping to my DM and I can tell she's struggling although she's trying to put pin a brave face. She'd normally come here for Easter Sunday, it will be hard not to have her with us.
My new hoodie is lovely, really comfy and with a decent hood which would look alright if you choose to wear it up (I never do). I'm going to have to start wearing a baseball cap soon - my roots are going to be hideous.
None of that matters of course. Just trying to find some normality. Much love to Voguettes and lurkers. Stay safe all.

DryWhiteagainW · 07/04/2020 21:45

Shop I think everyone is up and down at the moment. I keep saying to my family, as long as we don’t all cry at the same time we will be ok. Xxxxx

libertyonhertravels · 08/04/2020 06:58

I'm really glad to hear you got to have a proper funeral kitty. It must be so hard for all the families now who can't do this.

Shop big hugs. It's bloody hard. I totally hit the wall today, work has been incredibly hard and when I woke up this morning I just couldn't do it and had to take a day off to rest. I'm so pleased those high tops work for you.

Kitty NZ has learned from the rest of the world and going into early lockdown has made a huge difference. We're testing lots, contact tracing everyone, enforcing lockdown and daily case numbers are dropping. So people like my teams in public health are flat out but we've very few hospital admissions. I think it is looking like it might get eliminated here but to keep that up would mean fully closed border until there is a vaccine which will have big economic implications and personal implications for people like me. But overall I am happier to have this approach than the situation in the UK and other parts of Europe.

shopafrolic · 08/04/2020 13:20

Glad you took a day Lib it is so much to deal with, especially when you are on the front-line. You really are wonderful and I applaud you xx
Took miniShop and headed out for a long walk through the fields to try and improve my mood. Will crack on with the ironing and then do some gardening later.
I ordered some new earrings from Astrid & Miyu which arrived Huggies here. Other than that, no news.
Keep smiling Voguettes - love and good health to all.

OneNightTimeMenaceStrikesBack · 08/04/2020 13:50

i think ive got about 14 various pairs now lib shoes and boots. I don't wear anythign but converse and dr martens these days as ive found with the way i walk, they are best suited to that. I'm glad youve taken a day to rest, you must be working so hard and you need to look after yourself Thanks

how are you doing kitty Thanks

shop you are doing amazingly, i know its hard right now but you are a good mum and a good person, dont feel bad for having an off day, we all have them and right now they seem much bigger and darker than they usually would. You are a star, remember that Thanks

kittyhello · 08/04/2020 19:22

Lib I'm glad to hear NZ doesn't have it as bad as here. I too am glad to hear you took a day off when you needed to. I think now more than ever we need to listen to our bodies.

Shop good to hear you're getting dressed up for even the most mundane stuff as going to the supermarket, although to be fair it's become a big deal. Those high tops are so cool btw and great earrings too. Hope they helped to lift your mood somewhat.

Wow One 14 pairs of DM but as you said they are mainly what you wear so it makes sense to have them in a variety of colours/fabrics/styles etc

I was going to buy a jacket from Me and Em but by the time we're let out it will be too warm for it.

Hope all Voguettes are safe and well xx

CarolineBingley · 11/04/2020 09:52

Good morning Voguettes, hope everyone is having a good Easter weekend. We enjoyed the good weather in the garden and had a bbq yesterday. Same again planned for the day. My kids are now afraid of me giving them my “we are privileged for having a garden” speechSmile but at least they are taking the whole lockdown seriously and not asking to go anywhere or have play dates.

Dressing for video conference calls continues to be a challenge. Fridays sudden hot weather threw me for a loop. I wore this black halter neck Mango top with shorts and spent the day panicking it was a bit much for work though no one could actually see the shorts!

@libertyonhertravels the Body Shop does cotton moisturising gloves, the ones I found were from 7th heaven (they do the face masks too) and the other diy option is I was cleaning yesterday I used disposable gloves and squirted loads of hand cream in there. Multi tasking at its finest.

Hope everyone is okay, especially Voguettes who haven’t been around for a long time. I was thinking of those of you who I know can’t work from home and hoping you’re managing. X

libertyonhertravels · 15/04/2020 00:24

Decided to be brave and post an OOTD photo! It's turned very cold today so my working from home look is an old favourite cashmere sweater from Monsoon layered over a Boden long sleeve. Extra warmth from very snuggly merino and cashmere mix socks and lockdown essential sheepskin slippers Smile. No makeup and hair tied back - will have to sort that before the afternoon round of Zoom meetings.

I love your collection of scarfs Lib.

Everyonelovessparkles · 15/04/2020 10:42

Great scarf lib. Lime I said earlier, you always elevate an everyday outfit with a great accessory! Hope work is ok. NZ is doing a great job to manage the situation. Do you think lockdown will end soon?

We had a nice Easter weekend. The weather massively helped though. Monday was the first day I had really felt at a lose end with no work or school work and the weather wasn’t hot enough to relax in the garden. We are kind of getting into a routine now and the kids seem a bit better behaved.

I haven’t been buying anything, am torn between wanting to support retailers but also thinking about the people in warehouses and delivery drivers.

I saw oasis and warehouse have gone into administration. Such a shame. In my 20s virtually all my clothes came from Oasis. I expect some company like boohoo will buy the brand name though. I was reading some of the threads about it and there seems to be a common theme for all the great high st brands of yesteryear (jagaer, lk bennet, whistles, jigsaw, ted baker, Karen Millen etc) that the quality in recent years just didn’t match the price point. I think the high st will look very different by next year, I think there will be far less choice. Tough times.

Hope everyone is keeping well.
