Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

Dd was home from school this week with a bug and was watching old gossip girl episodes. I walked in and wondered what on earth Edo was doing on tv! The first photo is Serena's boyfriend Damien Grin

Thank you for the new thread, Queen.
The video of the tiaras looks fascinating, Curly. I'm saving it to watch as a treat this afternoon when I've finished cleaning the house.
Was Kate's wedding tiara her "something borrowed" do we think?

Horsemad · 11/01/2020 09:40

Oh Lordy, what is Zara wearing on her head...?!

Camilla really suits the heavy duty bling, doesn't she?

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2020 09:43

Ooh Zara and Mike, no. All a bit TOWIE with that suit too. I still think Zara's outfits when she's all dressed up look a bit constructive but she does casual well.

As someone with a bigger bust (like myself!!) Zara need to move away from high necks. Not sure about the matching handbag.

beanaseireann · 11/01/2020 09:47

Zara's dress is bad but Mike's suit is horrendous !

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/01/2020 09:53

Autocorrect is doing me no favours lately. Constrictive not constructive!

That's uncanny @chartreuse! No idea what Edo is like personally of course but he's a looker!

Zara’s dress looks like it could be Emilia Wickstead. She’s been doing a lot of those giant elbOw length sleeves.
I don’t mind mike’s suit. It’s just too tight. White in the tropics for men looks smart.

banivani · 11/01/2020 10:09

Zara’s hat is good though. As those things go.

You’d certainly see the style difference between the French dressing of the Casiraghis and English dressing. Not to mention the Scandis who murder their dresses with orders and pins.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 11/01/2020 10:10

Yay, thanks for the new thread!

And thanks for the tiaras! My new favourite from that Camilla link is the Delhi Durbar - so sparkly. She has some great jewellery; I especially liked her engagement ring and the emerald necklace.

Zara's dress is a bit PINK for me, but I don't mind the hat.

TokyoSushi · 11/01/2020 10:19

Checking in, thanks!

MotherofPearl · 11/01/2020 10:26

@MilleniumHallsWalledGarden, yes the Delhi Durbar is my second favourite after the Greville. I like a big high tiara - there's no point in a dainty tiara imo.

frugalkitty · 11/01/2020 10:45

Mother I think that's where Sophie Wessex lucks out with tiaras, jets are very dainty and a bit 'non' pretty though they are. And I think two of hers have a very noticeable band bit (or her hairdresser isn't very good at volumising fine hair to hide it).

frugalkitty · 11/01/2020 10:53

From the DM TV guide today, a little piece about errors in The Crown and also that later this month ITV are running a series about the crown (apologies if this is old news!)

I'm don't much like dainty tiaras either. I agree, poor Sophie only seems to get small, disappointing ones. I would like to see KM in something other than the Lover's Knot too. It has good height but I think she's worn it too often - there must be others available.

Lunde · 11/01/2020 11:04

Camilla must have a really strong neck - the huge tiara plus the diamond ropes must weight a ton!

beanaseireann · 11/01/2020 11:05

banivani Grin"....... the Scandis who murder their dresses with orders and pins."
Brilliant and exactly what I think too.

banivani · 11/01/2020 11:15

Great minds Bean... Wink

Thisenglishlife · 11/01/2020 11:29

Yikes! That dress and hat is doing Zara no favours.

Saw this old photo of Lady Kitty Spencer - her style has really improved in recent years... Partly thanks to working with Dolce and Gabbana?

I like Zara’s hat (I think). But the dress is a miss. But then I have a bit of an aversion to pink in general (my mother used to dress me and my sisters in matching pink frilly outfits. I’m 7.5 years older than my youngest sister and resented wearing such hideous little girl clothes).

TSSDNCOP · 11/01/2020 11:54

Not keen on Zara's dress, love the hat though. She and Mike are all smiley when they're in Australia. Bet they're chuffed to bits to be there at the moment.

Love those Charlotte C retrospectives is literally transformed when she smiles.

TSSDNCOP · 11/01/2020 11:57

The Tatler link took me down this path. The 60’s/70’s were Princess Anne’s era.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 11/01/2020 12:03

Wow, that pic of kitty. Her legs look quite muscular as well. It might have been a bad angle, but she looks taller normally. She is beautiful through.

I’m sure she will be stunning on her wedding day, possibly wearing the spencer tiara?

SenecaFalls · 11/01/2020 12:08

Camilla can really carry off the bling. That is reason alone to let her be Queen when the time comes. Crown
