Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

@Wetdogloveshubert some of Sophie's early outfits are pure 90s/early 00s office wear!

Do you think Kate is thinking thank christ Sophie is still here. The pool of married-in duchesses shrank considerable this week.

queenofarles · 20/01/2020 21:27

Sophie’s dress anyone identify it yet? It looks Alaïa, but i don’t see anyone links to confirm it.

StartupRepair · 20/01/2020 21:28

Anne didn't get the wear red memo.
Sophie is a real asset and to be blunt they should get another 25 years work out of her which will help George and his siblings.

thisenglishlife · 20/01/2020 21:30

Yes, I think it is Alaïa

Kate looks fantastic tonight, great shade of red on her! I like Sophie's dress but I think it's a bit too tight, especially across the back. Her boobs look a bit flattened in it.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 20/01/2020 22:03

Her boobs look a bit flattened in it.

Yes, I'm afraid that was what I thought. I think she needs either a slightly bigger size or a bra with more structure. Or both.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/01/2020 22:10

Kate, Sophie & Anne all look fabulous tonight. Though it's probably a good idea that Anne wasn't wearing red & Charles was absent, as can you imagine the headlines if they were all photographed together........'Charlie's Angels' or 'The Royal Red Arrows Save The Day Again' or something just as daft but funny.

Sophie you are a star! But can you get Edward to sort his hair, something like a No3 cut.
Or send him to the barbers with this:

Now waits expectantly for Edward's new barnet.

DuchessofWoke · 20/01/2020 22:26

I think Kate looks so tired. I’m sure it’s been a very difficult few weeks. They both looked tense in the photo of them in the car.

AppleKatie · 20/01/2020 22:27

They look great together, that’s what they needed- a cross section of the family pictures enjoying working together.

justasking111 · 20/01/2020 22:34

The engagements for 2019 with Andrew and Harry gone, who is going to pick up the slack for the military engagements.

Princess Anne: 195
Prince Charles: 177
The Queen: 174
Prince Andrew: 139
Prince Edward: 119
Prince William: 108
Prince Edward, Duke of Kent: 05
Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester: 105
Prince Harry: 98
Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: 81
Sophie, Countess of Wessex: 81
Kate, Duchess of Cambridge: 56
Princess Alexandra: 43
Birgitte, Duchess of Gloucester: 42
Meghan Markle: 28

FiveTwoFaster · 20/01/2020 22:39

I like Kate’s dress. Perfect length and sparkly but not show stealing. There is a really nice little clip of Princess Anne, William, Kate and Sophie all kissing hello and saying happy birthday to her and it’s just a cheerful few minutes of chat between extended family. Maybe William is secretly a big fat primadonna but the women don’t seem to be and it all comes across as natural and familiar.

Rhubarbisevil · 20/01/2020 22:40

There are some fab videos on Instagram. A lovely warm hug between Sophie and Kate and not a curtesy in sight! Anne is her usual dry self (meant in a good way). I’ll see if I can find them.

BigGreenOlives · 20/01/2020 22:43

Lucky Lady Louise will be able to have her mother’s dress taken in and wear it. Alaia stuff is gorgeous. I spotted lots of Alaia heels in the Hammersmith TK Maxx last week.

Rhubarbisevil · 20/01/2020 22:47

Here you go hugsroyal

QueenOfTheAndals · 20/01/2020 22:52

That list of engagements really does make you wonder. 195 for Anne but out of 365 days in the year even that isn't anyone's definition of "working".

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/01/2020 22:53

And yes I know there's probably behind the scenes work they do but it's still hardly a Mon-Fri, 9-5 job is it?

OP posts:
QueenOfTheAndals · 20/01/2020 22:56

Ugh, poor Sophie!

Looking at Kate`s dress it has been shortened for her, when you compare it to the website. There is also a much shorter version which is really pretty.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 20/01/2020 22:58

Brave Sophie, taking one for the team.

itswinetime · 20/01/2020 23:04

So that's number of days worked? But there may have been multiple events that day? Have I understood it correctly because I'm sure i saw a list with Anne's numbers in particular much higher than that.

And yes Queen I agree I'm not sure any of those numbers are high enough to be considered working I know the queen and Charles have things behind the scenes but do the rest?

Re where will the slack come expect more Edward more Sophie and more William and Kate maybe even more Camilla but I have my doubts there. There is a room to play around, none of them are working flat out, and some of the events covered by the Gloucester and Kent's will probably be dropped it may not be ideal but it will work. The problem will come when Anne, Edward and Sophie Want to step back the Cambridge children are t going to have the time William and Harry did which is a shame.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 23:06

I love those Needle and thread dresses. They’ve got a Temperley vibe about them; really suit Kate.

AudacityOfHope · 20/01/2020 23:08

I've just worked out that I work 225 days a year; I think being a princess and working close to 200 is ok. I mean, what's the point in being a princess otherwise! 👸🏼

itswinetime · 20/01/2020 23:10

Thanks for the videos @Rhubarbisevil nice to see some normal interactions.

itswinetime · 20/01/2020 23:13

Anyone see the video on Instagram of Williams speech basically saying that he and Catherine hope to visit soon and share their love of Africa with the children...could we see a Cambridge family tour of Africa in the not to distant future?
