Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

I think it may be this dress or at least a version of this dress...

Agree she doesn't look like she is looking forward to tonight which is rare for her

I love the velvet shoes.

I think all of us in a moment of repose could look "sad". She was probably wondering about something mundane.

WineOrGinOrBoth · 20/01/2020 19:31

Sophie & I are the same age. She looks at least 10 years younger than me Blush

hopeishere · 20/01/2020 19:31

Love Kate's dress. Not keen on Sophie's pendant thing.

Thisenglishlife · 20/01/2020 19:32

She used to look bored or sad when she first started doing events (nerves? Specially selected photos?), but then became known for smiling and grinning. (No part of this comment is a criticism!!)

Such a beautiful dress and lovely shoes! A Kate classic tonight!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 20/01/2020 19:35

she looks like she's wondering if she left the hob on Grin

Spudlet · 20/01/2020 19:35

No one can smile all the time, your cheeks would go into spasm! She’s probably just been caught in a moment of not smiling. Of course, it will feed into a convenient narrative for the media, so expect to see ‘Poor sad Kate’ headlines coming soon...

Lovely dress, so sparkly. My inner magpie approves 🤩

Thisenglishlife · 20/01/2020 19:36

I think you've got the right dress @itswinetime but it looks like it's been (badly!) shortened.

itswinetime · 20/01/2020 19:38

Agree this is only the start of the event so it may well just be a moment of nerves or something else or of course the photos that best sell the angle of the media at the moment.

Or she maybe be thinking a formal do with a bunch of politicians isn't her ideal plans for a Monday night it wouldn't be mine

But the dress is good it's sparkly and the right tone (warm jewelled tones) and there is no over fussy pattern or bow so it's a win for me and the shoes look pretty good to. I think it's a good look for Kate tonight and a winner for £500.

Spudlet · 20/01/2020 19:39

Could well be a ‘Oh god, Boris has sported us already’ 😬 face!

Grin
Thisenglishlife · 20/01/2020 19:40

Agree that it works as there are no fussy patterns or extra embellishments like bows and buttons - plus slim fit, without lots of volume at the bottom. Hurrah!

I think the clutch is the Jenny Packham 'Casa' clutch (from what we can see of it).

Smiles are back but more importantly anyone recognise that bag it's totally impractical for anyone without servants but I think I maybe in love 😂

@Thisenglishlife answered my question before I asked it thank you 😂

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 19:47

Sophie looks lovely
It’s apparently her birthday today

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 20/01/2020 19:48

I like Kate’s centre parting and Charlie’s Angels style flick.
I wonder if she’s had it layered?

frugalkitty · 20/01/2020 19:52

I may be wrong, but the one photo I've seen of Edward and Sophie tonight seems to show Edward in a single breasted suit......that can't be right, can it????

frugalkitty · 20/01/2020 19:53

This one!

We may well have a secret thread reader in Sophie.... if so we appreciate all your hard work hiding the double breasted suits! And you have our full support when you tackle the fleece issue that has been spreading through the family!

beanaseireann · 20/01/2020 19:59

So Sophie is ON this thread and obeyed the order re single breasted suit. Smile

ElspethFlashman · 20/01/2020 20:01

Kate looks phenom. I've always covered a N&T dress, and it does look like one. Love the clutch too.

Sophies dress is lovely. She has a great figure and I'm a sucker for scalloped anything. The pendant is one I want to get a closer look at cos I'm not sure it goes.

MotherofPearl · 20/01/2020 20:03

Kate looks great but I'm not convinced by the red shoes. Having said that, I'm not sure what colour shoes would look better.

Edward looks so much better in the single breasted suit. Grin

Spudlet · 20/01/2020 20:04

Go Sophie! I like to imagine her secretively chopping every single button off every double-breasted suit jacket she could lay her hands on ✂️ Grin
