Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Previous thread

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

That cupcake pic is a truly unfortunate moment in time Crown Shock

QueenOfTheAndals · 17/01/2020 08:17

I always thought Harry looked most like Charles until I saw that photo!

Which picture QueenoftheAndals?
There are so many on the thread. Smile

BlingLoving · 17/01/2020 08:53

@QueenOfTheAndals The Court Circular is retrospective/real time (not sure if it appears on their social media as I only see it in The Times) and definitely does include William et al. I don't follow the royal website etc but I think it's true that William/Kate/Meghan/Harry stuff is not on there in advance except for really big things.

I guess this is sort of the stuff that will be debated currently. Harry's Rugby Union stuff, which is official, is there this morning. But not Meghan's visits which are unofficial.

StartupRepair · 17/01/2020 08:57

Can't work out if I love or hate Victoria's velvet pant suit. And Daniel sort of matching in navy.

AudacityOfHope · 17/01/2020 09:02

I love the idea of it, but the trousers need to be a sharper cut and the boots do it no favours at all.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 17/01/2020 09:13

Is the velvet suit from Jigsaw? I noticed that there was a similar one in the sale.

hopeishere · 17/01/2020 09:22

I guess we will get a lot more papped shots of Meghan now.

Not keen on the velvet trouser suit. Might be better as evening wear.

ElspethFlashman · 17/01/2020 09:34

Respectfully, I don't want to see them.

If you're not working for a RF, then you're just a celebrity and this thread is for working Royals imo.

ajandjjmum · 17/01/2020 09:42

I hope there is a huge loss of interest in pictures of Meghan - see how much privacy she wants then.

MilleniumHallsWalledGarden · 17/01/2020 09:43

Agree Elspeth

banivani · 17/01/2020 09:55

I'm thinking it could be the same corduroy suit she wore in 2018 to places kungligamodebloggen.svenskdam.se/inspireras-av-victoria-shoppa-trendiga-manchesterplagg-och-mockaskor/

Which means it's House of Dagmar. Staying true to Swedish brands and wearing stuff again, that's CPV.

IMO there is no Swedish brand that make really good suits for women.

I disagree about working royals, we have the bloody Greeks and all those random Germans quite frequently.

Horsemad · 17/01/2020 09:56

The problem is, people will still want to see pictures, so I think we'll still see them in the press unfortunately.

itswinetime · 17/01/2020 10:00

I know through the grapevine that William and Kate already have their calendars sorted throughout February (or at least they did there is some rearranging going on at the moment obviously). Most events take a fair while to organise.

However they don't release the information till the week before I'm not sure why. It seems to be the new way of things even Charles schedule doesn't seem to be that far ahead anymore.

HainaultViaNewburyPark · 17/01/2020 10:01

I think you’re right @banivani. On closer inspection it looks more like that one than this Jigsaw one.

ElspethFlashman · 17/01/2020 10:08

We will see them in the DM but it'd be really refreshing if we kept this thread for those who actually put in the hours.

Fwiw, I don't particularly need to see photos of the non working people from other families either - Madeleine from Sweden for example unless she comes back to Sweden for an official event with her family like the Nobel Prize (which she always looks amazing at). But paparazzi pics of Madeleine trundling about in New York? No, she's a private citizen. Same for MM, imo.

banivani · 17/01/2020 10:09

No-one in Sweden wears Jigsaw either, I don't think we can get it here at all (unless online) - so that helped narrow it down ;) Not a known brand here.

Re "frugal Katie" - it shows what great work those bloggers who put together total wardrobe costs do. The tabloids trade in lies and playing on peoples "feelings". Maybe links to them should be in every OP @QueenOfTheAndals so we can avoid the posts that "have a feeling" about royal expenditure based on tabloid (more or less) propaganda. It's more interesting to discuss the facts (as factual as they can be, there are some holes, I realise).

@Inniu I claim credit for the skirt tip (I posted the link from Massimo Dutti). So pleased you felt good, it's a great feeling!

paradyning · 17/01/2020 10:14

I think Megs wants you to see those photos as I think she called those photos in.
Anyway. She gives good hat. I can never get a beanie to look as good as that.

banivani · 17/01/2020 10:23

No, I agree paparazzi pics are not interesting, and ethically they don't sit well with me. I don't like photos of Kate's face when she's just driving her children to school. It is not interesting sartorially, it is intrusive and undignified to her (and more importantly her children) personally, and it only benefits exploitative media really.

So photos from at least semi-official engagements are the best. After all, that's when clothes can be thought to have a message and that's the aspect I think is most interesting.

itswinetime · 17/01/2020 10:24

She may or may not want the pictures seen. For me Meghan now falls into a bit of a grey area. I'm happy to see the non-working royals such and Beatrice and Eugenie here, I think for me anyway Meghan at events is fine obviously trooping of the colour ect is a given but general living her life shoots I'd rather not, weather people think she wants them out there or not.

itswinetime · 17/01/2020 10:27

@banivani Yes I agree about the car shots to. I know that sometimes all we get is the car shot eg Buckingham palace Christmas lunch. But Kate in the school run ect Are a bit close to the line, mainly because I think it must be scary being a kid in the car with all that noise and flashing going on.

Rhubarbisevil · 17/01/2020 10:29

I kind of agree. curly you do Stirling work and the Megxit thread is a riveting read. But Meghan is now no longer a Royal IMO so she has no place on this thread. But please keep them on the Megxit thread as I am a double- standards hypocrite.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/01/2020 10:33

Re: Meghan.
No worries at all. I thought she had a lot of fans here, hence the posting of photos but no commentary on the «situation»
I agree she has opted out of the RF, so no more mentions from me about her on this thread!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 17/01/2020 10:39

Some tiara moments from the Luxembourg Ducal family

Grand Duchess Stéphanie looks gorgeous in her Seraphine maternity gown. She must be due fairly soon looking at the bump.!

BlingLoving · 17/01/2020 10:57

I think official or semi official photos are interesting still - if she visits a charity in a formal or informal capacity, I am definitely interested - and that goes for all "junior" royals from Madeleine to Eugenie to Meghan.

But agree completely that the more papp shots for all royals I'm less keen on. I mean, I can't help be morbidly curious, but those pics of Kate last week with the kids on the school run made me angry - she shouldn't have to deal with navigating flashbulbs and people trying to take her picture while she's driving her children to school.
