Royal style: forget all your stresses as we talk royal dresses

Now. A request. Can we please keep this to critiquing the clothes rather than the wearer?

So if you want to talk about what Meghan's wearing then fine, go ahead. I'm not even saying you have to like everything she wears. This applies to all royal women - if you don't like an outfit then do feel free to say so.

But if you want to talk about "Megxit" then please go to one of the many many other MN threads about it and leave us to our clothes chatter!

I took the liberty of choosing an evening dress for Kate since she's probably not had a lot of time to go sale shopping. Would like to see her in something like this. And it's a bargain. 😊

I Think the event on the 20th is being called a U.K.-Africa investment summit so I don't think we will be seeing gowns it's sounds like it's decidedly more business focused than glitz and glamor. Which is a shame for us.

RomaineCalm · 13/01/2020 23:22

No gowns? Bother!

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 14/01/2020 04:01

I love this dress Kate wore when she & William visited Singapore in 2012.
I'd like to see her wear it on Wednesday but might be a tad cold for January.
Otherwise I'm thinking Kate may wear a deep blue purple coat dress.
Purple being a regal & spiritual/peaceful colour would go down well considering all the drama at the moment.

But this time I would like purple accessories not black.

@TracyBeakerSoYeah Yes I loved that dress too and I dont think we’ve ever seen it again.

Wetdogloveshubert · 14/01/2020 07:19

I like the tulle gown @RomaineCalm - with the silver Jimmy Choos, perhaps? Not much opportunity for bling with it, though.

We're getting a state visit from the Emperor and Empress of Japan this Spring - they'll be staying in Windsor but we should get a state dinner with full regalia then?

QueenOfTheAndals · 14/01/2020 07:31

Oh are they definitely visiting @Wetdogloveshubert? We'll get some gowns then as HM is bound to give a state banquet.

Well that is good news about the Japanese visit - at last, some fashions to look forward to. Feels like we've had a bit of a drought. Grin

WineOrGinOrBoth · 14/01/2020 07:52

A state visit? Bliss. Lots of lovely frocks.

Rhubarbisevil · 14/01/2020 09:07

Well, I hope Boris Johnson brushes his hair for it. Does Carrie get a clothing allowance and do we, the tax payer, pay for it?

banivani · 14/01/2020 09:08

The very beautiful Queen Jetsun is expecting www.instagram.com/p/B6MtKxZhk9Q/ - a gorgeous photo there.

banivani · 14/01/2020 09:19

I fell down an internet rabbit hole on the Bhutanese national dress (looking for more information on how they drape it, seeing as how the fabric seems stiff? very confusing to me) and this picture of Kate in "Bhutanese inspired" outfit popped up (it's probably been shown before. I like it, it's unusual and a bit playful with the pattern mixing.

Found great video on Bhutanese dress:

I have a deep love of clothes that are just a square of fabric that you drape - saris, chiton etc. Adding the kira to my list. Grin

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/01/2020 10:47

The folds were ingenious but I'd be very nervous wearing something that appears to be secured by two shoulder brooches! I'm very clumsy too so would definitely get my heel caught in the hem and lost the whole lot.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 14/01/2020 10:49

*lose not lost.

peridito · 14/01/2020 11:12

Love that video banivani and the fit all sizes simplicity of the idea .Tho there was a lot of speeded up shimmiying to get a close fit .

Wouldn't be so much of an effort to tuck in in spare fabric on my more portly frame!

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 14/01/2020 13:06

Camilla aka Duchess of Rothesay wearing a Rothesay tartan trim on her coat.
She’s presenting Princess Anne with an honorary doctorate or something as she is Chancellor of the University of Aberdeen

paradyning · 14/01/2020 13:33

Great video! Clever with with the sleeves. Was wondering why they were so long at first!

I wonder if PA is like, 'Never did I think all those years ago at the polo you'd be doing this to me!'

Lovely video on KP twitter of PW presenting an MBE to Alex Duguid for services to death people, PW attempts some sign language.

Laiste · 14/01/2020 15:52

Just repeating banivani's link www.instagram.com/p/B6MtKxZhk9Q/ because Jetsun is so lovely and i'd love to know what the pink stone in the middle of her ring is. My fav. colour is pale pink and i want it

itswinetime · 14/01/2020 16:01

I'd love to be a fly on the wall on the wall to see Camilla give Anne her award. Who curtesy's to who in these circumstances? Camilla should still curtsy to Anne which would just look odd. 🤷🏻‍♀️

AdaColeman · 14/01/2020 16:02

I wonder if Andrew PB was there to cheer them both on!

Nice to see Camilla looking a lot better, and Anne looked well turned out too. I bet it's doubles all round in the VC's office now!

gingercat02 · 14/01/2020 16:12

I bet Anne and Camilla are great friends. Both down to earth, countrywomen. ^^ Definitely having a wee dram after the ceremony

ajandjjmum · 14/01/2020 16:13

I hope they're friends now - and old enough to have a good old chunter together about 'bloody kids'.
