Fancy being a Goddess for 2020?

Pinkarsedfly · 01/01/2020 11:08

Bear with me. I’m 45, size 14, about as far from a Goddess as you could possibly imagine.

But...I read a comment from a MNer on one of these boards a few months back, I think it was on a thread about stopping overeating, and it’s really stuck with me. The OP was asking how she could stop bingeing on crap, and a pp said something like, ‘Eating good food in the right amount is more goddess-like. Treat yourself like a Goddess.’

I really liked that. It stuck with me. I like the idea of channelling an innner goddess much more than princessing. So I thought I’d start a thread of ideas about how to be a goddess for 2020.

So far I’ve thought of:

Take regular exercise - not in a sweaty gym, but running outside, yoga, stretching etc. Good for the mind as well as the body.

Eat well, and not too much. There’s not much goddess-like about shoving your hand down a tube of Pringles and getting crumbs down your front.

Drink more water.

Looking after skin, maybe use natural products?

Be creative and try to use more positive self-talk?

I don’t know if I’m barking up the wrong tree, but I’m feeling my way towards treating myself better and hoping it has a knock-on effect.

Any other potential goddesses out there with more ideas?

Ah, I’m glad the thread inspired you to do some yoga, Love51.

My yoga class starts up again next week and I can’t wait. After the Christmas excesses I’m looking forward to moving my body again.

I have Goddess hair tonight. The hotel we’re staying in has a Dyson hairdryer, and damn, those things are good! Never had such straight, flippy, shiny hair - it normally dries like a puffball.

£350 pounds though. That’s astronomical.

Goddess-lite Werking reporting for duty. I’ve been meaning to post for the past few days and kept putting it off, thinking I should only come back when I’d done my full goddess routine ... buuuut that’s exactly the sort of thinking that got me in this rut, so I’m ignoring the inner goblin.

I went to a New Year’s Day party and got drunk, so that wrote off most of the 1st and my hangover did in the 2nd.

I’ve made some good progress. Using my Apple Watch and doing a lot more steps and moving. I’ve been drinking water and I’ve signed up to a mindfulness app I’ve used the last few days. I’ve also been planning my year in my planner.

@Karcheer my planner is the Bold Goal Digger 2020 Planner by Mii. It’s the best there is as far I’m concerned - I’ve tried a lot Grin

@KingaRoo thanks so much for the recommendation: I actually have it somewhere in my clutter but I can’t remember if I’ve read it. If I did it would have been years ago. I’m going to look for it and read it.

Werking · 04/01/2020 00:08

@Pinkarsedfly ooh at shiny flippy hair. I did some work for some professional hairdressers recently and they were firm converts to the Dustin.

Werking · 04/01/2020 00:09

Dyson.

Tho’ Dustin does sound like a trendy Hoxton haircut.

AwdBovril · 04/01/2020 06:14

Well, I'm awake. Damn insomnia. Got about 5 hours or so.

Yesterday I decided to really commit to healthier eating, so I've paid for membership on one of those healthy eating apps that tracks your calories, macros, nutrition etc, & offers recipe recommendations etc. Currently on offer £17.50 for a year. I used it before but only the free version which had limited features. I lost weight in spring, but have regained it over the last few months, I think due to stress etc.

I noticed a couple of days ago that my forehead, in particular, is quite dehydrated, so I'm making more effort to do my skincare routine every day, & I'll try putting more than one layer of serum on - apparently this is a Korean technique (if I remember correctly) to improve skin hydration. TBH right now it feels a bit sticky.

Am also going to (try to) remove wheat from my diet as much as possible. It provokes my IBS. I spend so much time & energy on managing my pain that my IBS takes a back seat.

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 04/01/2020 08:31

Cheaper is the Babyliss big beautiful hair

Takes 5 mins on almost--dry-hair and looks like a salon blowdry

PlatoAteMySnozcumber · 04/01/2020 09:08

Oh I love this idea! I have been coasting along waiting to lose some more baby weight before putting some more effort into my appearance although it’s taking longer than expected. I might just try to be a goddess instead of thin.

AnnieJ1985 · 04/01/2020 09:27

This goddess hit a wall yesterday, and ended up in bed with a migraine. I am blaming the goddessy cheese toasties I had this week- I usually don't eat a lot of dairy but it has been a free-for-all since Christmas Confused

Still a bit sore today but will have a nice shower, cleanse my face, and head of for some fresh air.

Have a good Saturday, y'all

(I really can't pull off saying "y'all")

kelper · 04/01/2020 09:44

Good morning Goddesses!
I've decided I am going to be a goddess after all, I very goddessly ate an entire M&Ms chocolate bar last night, in place of the bottle of wine Id usually drink....
Today I am goddessly going to walk the dog, and then go to work in a supermarket, but there will be perfume sprayed and makeup applied :)
Hope everyone else has a fabulous day swishing everywhere (I have short hair so no swishing here, if those who are long of lock could switch for me that would be fabulous, thank you!)

pontiouspilates · 04/01/2020 09:52

This is a lovely thread, may I join? I'm 50, about 2 stone overweight and have succumbed to elasticated waists! I want to eat mindfully, drink less and wear all my wardrobe rather than my tunic/Leggings 'uniform' I also want to keep my nails nicely filed and buffed with a clear nail polish.

RaininSummer · 04/01/2020 10:27

Just read all of this inspiring Goddess goodness. This has arrived at just the right time for me as I has already decided that I needed to start yoga again as a regular thing in my life. I managed day 1 of Adrienne yesterday which showed me how stiff I have become.

I think that Goddessing will stop my gluttonous tendencies which can only be a good thing as I am around 3 stone overweight now. I also need to buukd more exercise into my sedentary lifestyle .

I has already started recording stuff in a new diary using my new fountain pen with purple ink which has a Goddess feel about it. Will try to log goddess type achievements and goals and also use it as a gratitude diary as that idea is uplifting.

Must admit to not looking goddess like as am still in bed with second coffee as have woken up up with a nasty cold which has been hovering about for days.

Like poster above, at 57, I seem to have succumbed to elastic waists and tunic tops though do usually have a reasonable hair cut and perfume .

Starting the low carb boot camp again shortly too as I know it works.

thebabessavedme · 04/01/2020 10:30

good morning, I would like to join in please, 57 and feeling it, I have been following the thread and making more effort with skin care, dug out my clarisonic thing and been using it, skin does feel softer, also been exfoliating properly, not just a quick once over in the shower.

I am also going to 'shop my wardrobe', I have lots of lovely clothes I need to wear, I spent the bloody money so whats the point of keeping things for best?, I do make myself cross sometimes Grin

one of my goddess goals though is to buy some tissues for my handbag Blush I'm not sure a real goddess walks about with 2 metres of scrunched up bog roll in the bottom of her bag Grin

Pinkarsedfly · 04/01/2020 10:40

Good morning Goddesses! Excellent to have so many new members. What’s the collective noun for a group of Goddesses? A swish? A sashay?

I took the advice from a pp (on phone so can’t check the name, sorry) and ordered a goal diary thingy. I already have a million notebooks, but there’s always room for another. I want 2020 to be the year I really do write the book I’ve been faddling along with for the last three years, so I need some goal-setting help.

Have had quite a Goddessy weekend - did a bit of culture, and then, instead of just napping before dinner, I took advantage of the hotel pool and did half an hour swimming. I even ventured into the Next sale to buy a heavily-reduced bikini for the purpose, as I hadn’t realised there’d be a pool. I’ve decided that can stay in my overnight bag so I can always have a swim if the chance presents itself.

I love to swim, it feels like flying.

Pinkarsedfly · 04/01/2020 10:42

I love the tissues idea, babe. It’s little things like that that make all the difference to the way we see ourselves. I guess it’s self-care, isn’t it?

OP posts:
Love51 · 04/01/2020 13:22

Greek style, if we don't want to be nymphs or gorgons (and you can if you like) to he collective term is charity or grace. A grace of goddesses.
Roman style, venti or carmenae.
Mainly I see myself as Cleopatra, but that gets a bit incestuous and murdery (too much horrible histories!) I can't find the collective noun for the Egyptian goddesses, maybe they didn't want to offend one by referring to the others!

Neilsfavouritechilli · 04/01/2020 13:35

Am I too late to join? I made a simple change today, bought new, nice knickers and threw away some old manky ones that I'm embarrassed by. I'm aiming to read more, accept myself more (I've been very down on my looks this last year) and get a bit fitter.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 04/01/2020 13:40

Sorry I should have introduced myself and said hi first. I'm Neils and I'm mid thirties and really want to spend more time living and loving than criticising myself and twatting about on my phone.

Pinkarsedfly · 04/01/2020 13:44

A Grace Of Goddesses. I think that best sums us up!

Of course it’s not too late to join, NeilsFavouriteChilli, pull up a throne.

I’m with you on the new knickers - I lost about a stone and a half last year and was all ready to sling out my belly-warmers and get some more Goddess-like pants to celebrate. However, the Christmas celebrations (with both a large and small ‘c’) mean that plan will have to wait a few weeks...

OP posts:
Pinkarsedfly · 04/01/2020 13:46

Twatting about on the phone really is a thief of life isn’t it?

Apart from this thread, of course. Still, less phone-twatting is becoming imperative for me. I cringe at the screentime update my phone insists on showing me.

OP posts:
Neilsfavouritechilli · 04/01/2020 14:08

Thank you, I downloaded an app on my phone last week, it's called forest. You set a timer and grow a tree, if you use your phone in that time the tree wilts and dies. I've been using it whilst trying to concentrate on reading or having a relaxing bath.

tenredthings · 04/01/2020 14:13

I love this. I'm going to be an Amazonian goddess. Strong, powerful, totally trust myself to make excellent choices for my life. My sense of belief and love in myself is going to project out of me and only good , loving people will dare to enter my reality !

Fredy45 · 04/01/2020 15:24

Well, although goddesses are immortal, they are not apparently immune from evil illness so yesterday was spent in bed (goddess like in its own way I suppose).

Bit better today so I have:

Bought a new yoga mat. Instead of buying the cheapy thin one in Tesco, I bought the more expensive one from tk maxx. It's thicker, better quality and v pretty so will bring me joy. DH was v smug as I have a bad habit of buying cheap which then doesn't last so it's a false economy. In fact he was so smug he bought it for me Wink

Done day 1 of Adrienes 30 days of yoga - bit ropey due to ear infection but I took it easy and rested when I needed to

Have downloaded the nhs 5 week strength podcast as I need to get that in my fitness routine

Made a lovely noodle soup for lunch and had a banana not a biscuit

Kept up with the skincare including spf

BiBiBirdie · 04/01/2020 15:28

Love this!
I'm currently doing the non-diet, stop eating akin to a sodding pig, yes if you eat sweets and crisps all the time you will be flabby, diet.

I'm getting married this year and currently a size 16 mostly on my tummy. DH would rather I kept my boobs (he's rather a fan) but I'm being more aware of portion sizes and eating healthily and less.
I'm happy to join in with a gang for The Road to Goddess challenge Smile

Onthebrink67 · 04/01/2020 15:48

Can I join. I’m 52 2-3 stones overweight and feeling very frumpy. I want to get fitter and spend more time on self care. I love a new notebook so I will check out the planner recommendations.

Pinkarsedfly · 04/01/2020 16:56

Welcome to all new members of our Grace of Goddesses!

The new yoga mat sounds fab. I always find if I buy nice accessories I’m much more likely to keep up the good habits. So lovely yoga leggings, nice trainers for my running, a really good pair of earphones, all make me much more likely to exercise.

I wonder if I can spread that approach to other areas? So if I make my desk lovely I’ll be more likely to write, buy nice skincare I’ll be more likely to use it, etc? Worth thinking about.

There are so many ideas here that I think I’ll put them into three lists - Mind, Body and Spirit.

So...

BODY

Move every day, in a way that brings you joy. So go for a run, a swim, a good walk, yoga, bike...whatever it is, enjoy the movement, the feel of the blood pumping round your body and the stretch of your muscles. Enjoy the process, don’t just hope for a result.

Look after your skin. Take time over your skincare, and use up those body lotions you got for Christmas. Use the good bath/shower stuff every day!

Wear perfume every day. No more ‘for best’. Let every day be ‘best’. Same goes for clothes and jewellery. Enjoy them!

Drink more water/herbal tea. Keep an eye on alcohol.

Get lots of lovely sleep.

Eat well; choose food that tastes good and makes you feel good.
