Fancy being a Goddess for 2020?

Pinkarsedfly · 01/01/2020 11:08

Bear with me. I’m 45, size 14, about as far from a Goddess as you could possibly imagine.

But...I read a comment from a MNer on one of these boards a few months back, I think it was on a thread about stopping overeating, and it’s really stuck with me. The OP was asking how she could stop bingeing on crap, and a pp said something like, ‘Eating good food in the right amount is more goddess-like. Treat yourself like a Goddess.’

I really liked that. It stuck with me. I like the idea of channelling an innner goddess much more than princessing. So I thought I’d start a thread of ideas about how to be a goddess for 2020.

So far I’ve thought of:

Take regular exercise - not in a sweaty gym, but running outside, yoga, stretching etc. Good for the mind as well as the body.

Eat well, and not too much. There’s not much goddess-like about shoving your hand down a tube of Pringles and getting crumbs down your front.

Drink more water.

Looking after skin, maybe use natural products?

Be creative and try to use more positive self-talk?

I don’t know if I’m barking up the wrong tree, but I’m feeling my way towards treating myself better and hoping it has a knock-on effect.

Any other potential goddesses out there with more ideas?

I'm food tracking, and improving my handwriting. It's hard to write 'Maccy Ds' in nice writing, so it's helping me diet.
I won't allow people to disrespect my temple (house) by treating it like a pig-sty, a Goddess needs her throne room to sparkle!

Isbutteracarb · 02/01/2020 09:42

Love this idea! Placemarking

Pinkarsedfly · 02/01/2020 10:18

Good morning Goddesses!

I hope you all slept well. The handwriting idea is fab, Boswell - those little tricks to keep us Goddess-like.

I used some deep sleep pillow spray on a silk pillowcase last night. Felt suitably Goddess-like as I drifted off to sleep Grin

Today I have an essay to finish, then it’s time to take down the Christmas tree. Get that throne-room sparkling again!

I went to bed at 9 pm last night ( after a very Un goddess like 3-30 am bed time after a New Year’s Eve party )
Woke up when DH came to bed
Woke up when he woke me up to tell there was a scratching noise in the bedroom ( I think it was on the roof )

Woke up again , when I had a nightmare and I woke DH up by whimpering , so he woke me up to stop the dream

Had a lay in til 9 am , so I’m feeling better now 👍

Been for a potter round town , planned on buying some new undies with a M & S voucher , but it was like a zoo in there , so I’ll leave it a few days

AnnieJ1985 · 02/01/2020 18:19

I am not back in work until Monday, but I put some makeup and nice perfume on today to waft around Lidl. Put a bit of pep in my step.

DoloresTheDonkey · 02/01/2020 19:06

I went for a mooch around the shops today to find some new trousers. I've lost weight over Christmas due to illness so need something to wear when I return to work next week.

Normally I'd buy the boring trousers BUT I went to Zara and bought a couple of dresses instead. I've never been a dress wearer but this year I'm going to start wearing them. Not actually tried them on yet so all cross your fingers that they actually fit Wink

poorbuthappy · 02/01/2020 19:23

Please may I join?
I have to concentrate on less alcohol, more water, more piano playing and yoga every day with Adriene. I am going to be more mindful with food but not to the extreme. It's the alcohol which causes me major issues.

And (if I can ask another question) how much do you think a positive mental attitude matters? I am a realistic but not what I'd consider a pessimist, but we were talking about the menopause on NYE and I was very down about it (having some considerable issues including a breast cancer scare which is thankfully ok but all down to my age and hormones Sad) My friend is embracing the change as a celebration of what her body has achieved.
She's approaching it from the opposite end of the spectrum to me and I'm wondering what I can do to get on board with it.

delilabell · 02/01/2020 20:10

This sounds wonderful please may I join?
Mine are :
To have nice pyjamas (I can't bs a goddess wearing Mrs elf pj's Grin)
I love the nourish instead of food. Its ridiculous but I keep the "nice" fruit for my children - no more!
To concentrate on my kingdom (not getting involved in other people's thay don't condlcern me)

Pinkarsedfly · 02/01/2020 20:20

Some very Goddessy days. Excellent!

Welcome to newcomers. The more the merrier!

poorbuthappy I think positive mental attitude is absolutely key. Positive self-talk is something I really have to work on, and I think it’s the number one way to change the way we present ourselves.

I’m trying very hard to treat myself the way I’d treat someone I love. It’s surprisingly hard.

I love this thread....and am enjoying the idea of being More Goddess, Less Ploddess 😁♥️

Am 40, struggling with weight, having a rough time with infertility and generally.feel like I've lost any spring or spark I used to have. But lots of lovely inspiration on this thread, you bunch of gorgeous Goddesses...was inspired and went for a cut and blow dry tonight to lift me out of my current funk ....

Post Christmas, my immediate priority is drinking lots of water....and cutting down/ out fizzy drinks as I got a bit carried away over December/Christmas and I can see a difference in mood/skin/energy when I need to up my water intake.

Pinkarsedfly · 02/01/2020 20:37

My Goddessy Day

-finished and submitted an assessment for my MA four days early. Unprecedented. Goddesses don’t neck Red Bull and pull all-nighters to get their assessments in on time.

  • took tree down and cleaned throne-room. It’s gleaming now if you ignore the dogs
  • had baked Brie for tea - but didn’t eat all of it and had it with a ton of salad and veg.
  • did glycolic scrub and serum so my skin looks glowy.
  • took ages blow-drying my hair instead of my usual blast-and-tie-back.

Love51 · 02/01/2020 22:21

Today I got up early to go to the pool before DH went to work (we have small kids still!).
Bought some veggies for a couple of old favourite recipes that I know I like, for packed lunches next week. Also herbal tea and serum (that has its own thread).
And the last one is oddly in opposition to everyone else's, but chose some crap to watch on TV. It's very rare I do that (it is usually CBBC or football, at least CBBC has a plotline!)

workffs · 02/01/2020 22:28

Also turning 40 this year and am in a huge fat rut with no style or substance to myself

Pinkarsedfly · 02/01/2020 23:05

Love51 I think choosing something that you want to watch on tv, and making time for yourself to sit down and watch it, is definitely Goddess-like. It’s about making time for yourself and acknowledging that you are important.

I played my guitar for an hour this evening. DS2 is having some emotional problems and is having a wobble about going back to uni. We had a chat, and he went to his room. Normally I would have freaked out to DH and wound myself up - but I didn’t. I picked up my guitar instead, and calmed myself right down. I’m much more use to DS if I’m calmer.

Good morning Goddesses.

I’m catching a train to London today to see the Tutankhamen exhibition.

We’re just staying one night, but in a rather nice hotel, so I’m going to take full advantage of the facilities and emerge, Goddess-like, full of culture, history and mini-shampoos

Seriously though, part of this whole thing is taking time to do things, rather than idly thinking ‘oh I’d like to do that, then moving on.

Sometimes, one night away can leave you feeling as refreshed as a holiday, if you spend that time doing what you really want.

Good for your relationship too Wink

lissie123 · 03/01/2020 07:49

These are all lovely inspirational ideas. Pinkarsedfly- your day sounds fab.
I have a manic day today so trying to incorporate some Goddess like things into it. A walk and a spritz of perfume is a start I think.

BoswellSolver · 03/01/2020 08:35

My Goddessing took the following small actions yesterday:
Cleaned my shoes, I can't float about in divine waftiness with dirty shoes.
Ignored a tantrum in public...a goddess does not associate with devils Wink.

AnnieJ1985 · 03/01/2020 10:01

Goddessing in my house today, giving it a good clean and tidy ahead of starting back to work on Monday. We are in the middle of a house purchase so going to use the goddess in me to make ruthless decisions about the clothes and general tat I am going to bring to our new home. My new life will be more decluttered and my new house will be cosy and restful without piles of change and receipts on every surface glares at DH

Pinkarsedfly · 03/01/2020 15:57

I’m starting to think this Goddess thing works!

Got to London King’s Cross, and as I was walking through the ticket barrier, the platform guard said to me, “You’re beautiful!”

That has NEVER happened before.

Then we got upgraded at the hotel!

I must be sashaying. Do Goddesses sashay?

Thank you for this thread, I've just gone and got my flute out of hiding and will start practicing that again.
I'm not sure I'm calm enough to be a goddess proper though, can I just be an Ess for a bit?

Pinkarsedfly · 03/01/2020 16:11

You can be whatever you want to be, kelper

I love the thought of you with your flute.

Slept with some hair elasticised on my hair ( surprisingly ) last night
My goodness , it’s amazing !
I had it in 2018 beauty advent calendar , and hadn’t tried it before

A touch of make up .... I need to declutter my make up bag .. and a spritz of perfume later , I headed into town

Ordered 2 new pairs of jeans in M & S ( there was nothing goddess like on the sale rail ) I had a voucher for Christmas to spend

Went for a walk with DH , down to the river , and have done over 12,000 steps today

Feeling good

Salmon and loads of veg for dinner

Love51 · 03/01/2020 21:36

pinkarsedfly it's working! Good for you!
Hopefully your DD will see your goddess status and pray at your altar for advice (do adult kids do that? I dunno. Mine are still at the age when I tell them I'm a witch and heal their pain using magic and it works!)
I'm in pain myself today, so didn't run or swim but partly due to this thread, (and partly due to recording exercise on the calendar) did a you tube yoga workout for the pain. It seemed to help. Might do it again tomorrow.
I'm aiming for 3 things a day but they might get repetitive.
Yoga workout
Greenest dinner ever - was given spinach pasta, had it with pesto, broccoli and peas.
Did my nails (just trimmed and buffed) and eyebrows (got DIY strips).

Love51 · 03/01/2020 21:36

I'm sure I typed ds.
I'm blaming the automotive
