Tremendous appreciation for how the Norwegian RF has dealt with Ari Behn's death even though Ari was divorced from the RF. King Harald immediately paid tributes to him, acknowledging his place in the RF.

Compare this to Diana's death and its aftermath when the Queen had to be forced out of Balmoral to say something.

banivani · 03/01/2020 23:26

Not to mention that they’ve immediately made suicide relief and awareness a focus. Not just the RF I mean, the whole country. Every article in the press has helpline numbers underneath. And his daughter took the time to emphasise that there was always an option to suicide.

The daughters (and I think princess ML too?) all wore something pink to honour him (but I didn’t understand why, they Norwegian was a bit fast there).

AudacityOfHope · 03/01/2020 23:31

True @PinkSun9 I think our RF's fake front of 'we don't harbour your silly human emotions' is wearing insanely thin now. Especially now, the juxtaposition between their ridiculous uptight attitude and MM's instinct to talk about feelings - makes the RF look more out of touch than ever.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2020 00:38

Although I couldn’t understand and thank you @banivani for the translation / explanation.
I was very impressed by Maud Behn’s composure and passion in a very long speech; given the circumstances.

Re: the RF and emotions; I do feel that the younger Royals Mental Health campaign both formal, and informally talking about it, is definitely making strides compared to the former stiff upper lip of the RF.
There has been no major Royal death in almost 20 years.

I think when the Queen passes; I think people will be surprised how affected they are by it. I do however hope it is a good decade away.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2020 00:41

Loved the generations of the RF photos.
Agree with pp, I think PGs tartan trews are smart; but the “blouse” is too much.
A shirt; little tie and a waistcoat would be cute.

I agree with Queen about the composition of the photo. I think it might be to do with George and Charles standing on the stair. It was probably done to condense them into a smaller space without the need for cropping but it's made the proportions all wrong - PC looks huge though we know he is not, PW looks like he has a pin head and HM seems even more tiny than usual.

GlamGiraffe · 04/01/2020 07:10

I agree too. As soon as I saw this photo I thought it looked so strange.everyone looks the wrong size, as though they have all been cut out and photoshopped onto a background. Their fert dont actually look like they're on the floor. I had a closer look as C looks like he and PG are on an invisible step!
I wondered if the arrangement is supposed to convey some secret message to us? It isnt working if it's supposed to.
PGs whole outfit is wrong now, I usually like the shirts so hated by MN, but I have to agree he is to old now and it does not go with those trousers. Looks a strange fit too- too small. He looks a bit of the chubby side but I've not noticed that before.
Apart from HM this pic is an awful fail for me!

AppleKatie · 04/01/2020 07:36

It’s a nice photo- very efficient use of time that day before the BP Christmas party!

I think George looks cute although his hair bothers me more than his clothes 😂 in the informal shots they release his hair looks lovely it doesn’t need to be styled like that for the formal ones.

Gooseysgirl · 04/01/2020 07:48

George's outfit is ill-fitting and strange... time for Grandad to stage a fashion intervention and introduce him to his tailor.
I don't understand Norwegian but that speech was heartbreaking to watch, what an awful time for all of Ari Behn's family 😔

SunsetBoulevard3 · 04/01/2020 08:16

I really don’t like that photo. George’s hair looks tortures, the outfit he is wearing doesn’t work. Girls blouse in an underwhelming colour. The Queen looks very short and PC looks strange. Everyone seems out of proportion I agree. No one looks good in it and not very attractive. It’s bizarre.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 04/01/2020 08:17

Tortured not tortures!

JayAlfredPrufrock · 04/01/2020 09:06

Agree the photo is odd. And they need to drop that type of shirt/blouse for Prince George. Far too old for it now.

And why have the Queen stood down a step? She’s tiny as it is.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 04/01/2020 09:19

George looks like he has a good head of hair, although better untamed I think! He may have hit the jackpot and landed the Middleton genes.

TSSDNCOP · 04/01/2020 09:34

Because PG is only 6 the shirt with the front piping is suitable in such formal shots as it’s a feature without being a shirt and tie, which he’s too young for. My DS’s hair goes like that in school photos when someone takes a quick brush to it. I’ll bet minutes after the shot he was back in a polo shirt and shorts as usual and will likely never look at this photo for the rest of his life.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/01/2020 09:43

There’s a whole thread about PG’s outfit!

paradyning · 04/01/2020 10:01

Why do they keep drip, dripping these photos. Still irritating.
I think those trews will be paired with Kate's tartan dress on a public engagement in Scotland. #literaldressing

WineOrGinOrBoth · 04/01/2020 10:19

Yes I agree with PinkSun - a marked difference but then maybe different times?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2020 10:25

@CurlyWurlyTwirly someone on that thread makes a good point - why is HM carrying her handbag in the portrait? And come to think of it, why does she have it on her arm while making Christmas pud? I mean, obviously she didn't make it herself but still!

Random thought - will Archie make his Trooping balcony debut this year?

Why do they keep drip, dripping these photos

The cynic in me would say the dripping of photos is so the media always have something positive to release and talk about during a period the royals are normally pretty quiet. Try and stop them finding other less flattering stories.

George's outfit is odd for me I don't like it and I agree the staging is odd. I think the message is Charles at the heart while linking him to the past (the queen) and the future (George). To be honest William feels like he is just there as an after thought to be honest! But it's ended up with an odd overall look.

The Norwegian RF have done very well, they have definitely handled this all very thoughtfully. I agree it's very different to how the royal family handled Diana's death but circumstances were very different to. It was a unique and crazy situation/period of time. The younger royals try to be more open, I think as time goes on we will see a slightly different approach from the British RF. I don't think they will ever be the most emotionally open family though.

itswinetime · 04/01/2020 10:36

@QueenOfTheAndals I think that we will see George and Charlotte the carriage's this year and I would expect Archie to be on the balcony he will be similar in age to Cambridge children when they started. How old were the Tindall/Phillips children when they first came out on the balcony?

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/01/2020 10:38

@itswinetime I'm not sure but Charlotte and Louis were just over , I think.
