Meghan and Harry apparently have no engagements in January.

Early weeks of pregnancy perhaps? I hope they have a nice gentle re-entry to royal duties without too much fanfare.

QueenOfTheAndals · 28/12/2019 15:52

They may not have any engagements announced at this point in time but that's neither here nor there. The Cambridges don't either. W&K and H&M have never announced their engagements too far in advance - it's usually a week or two at the most.

@latedecember1963 Those tiaras crowns are great!

Afrigginggoat · 28/12/2019 18:01

Daily mail is headlining on the Canadian retreat that H and M are apparently staying at. I can see no justifiable reason for that at all, it's just intrusive.

queenofarles · 28/12/2019 18:04

Who leaks these stories?
I thought the Christmas in Canada was probably a hint by the their PR to keep them rolling.
But an exact location is a step too far I Think.

queenofarles · 28/12/2019 18:14

Oops! Just read page SIX,
So they’ve been spotted jogging and hiking around the area, and they couldn’t get a reservation at an eatery so the owners blabbed to the press.
So much for privacy in Canada they could have went unnoticed back home.

TSSDNCOP · 28/12/2019 19:55

Obviously anyone, anywhere will flog a story. If that house is where they’re staying they certainly won’t be enjoying anymore jogging.

StCharlotte · 28/12/2019 22:20

I'm back (did you miss me? Crown Grin). Hope we all had a great Christmas and wishing frugal and her father well.

Thought Kate looked very Anna Karenina (hat was wrong though). Loved Beatrice's coat. But, oh, someone needs to take Lady Louise in hand - either Letizia or Maxima (although the fabulous flamenco outfits might be a step too far).

SunsetBoulevard3 · 28/12/2019 22:34

The house is absolutely enormous with a separate ‘cottage’ with three bedrooms apparently. Owned by anonymous billionaire.
Security everywhere. That doesn’t sound very restful to me. It sounds like a very entitled and spoilt couple with a lavish lifestyle being paid by the British public. Yet they still complain about how hard life is. What exactly are they doing for all the luxury ? Why do they need such a huge house for the two of them plus baby and mother in law? Meanwhile Frogmore sits empty.

JohnLewisIain · 28/12/2019 22:41

You might want to start your own thread about this @sunsetboulevard. I just want to know what colour her jogging bottoms are.

itswinetime · 28/12/2019 23:00

Are the British public paying for this holiday? Surely it is either coming out of their personal money or the money they get from the Duchy of Cornwall. Also a lot is being made of the fact they have taken 6 weeks of Kate does pretty much the same over the summer holidays and in fact we rarely see her in the school holidays at all. If you I'm not criticising her but I don't actually think the Sussex's having 6 weeks off is that big a deal. I'm sure it's probably pretty even if you add it all up.

Yes the public footed the bill for the renovation at frogmore. As they did for the renovations at Ammer Hall which is empty Monday-Friday and the renovations at apart 1A which is empty every weekend. That's not to mention the holidays etc. The royals as a whole are wasteful with multiple houses who's upkeep is the responsibility of the taxpayer. It's not a problem specifically linked to the Sussex's IMO anyway.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 29/12/2019 00:06

Yes, true. Maybe we are all waking up to just how wasteful and spoilt they all are.

banivani · 29/12/2019 07:04

Speaking of Kate’s coat - I’m always puzzled by people wearing them big coats, maybe with matching hats and on their feet only little pumps. If I can wear the pumps the coat is too warm I’d reason.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/12/2019 08:20

Is that article in the Mail true though @SunsetBoulevard3? Or are the claims up there with the list of commandments given to neighbours, the £5k copper bath or the blanket made in a sweat shop?

Gooseysgirl · 29/12/2019 08:46

I didn't think the Anmer Hall renovations were paid for by the public? That property is part of the Sandringham estate which is personal property of the royal family.

megletthesecond · 29/12/2019 08:51

ban maybe she has thermal insoles in her fancy shoes. I've started wearing them lately, they really keep the chill out.

banivani · 29/12/2019 08:56

Ah but it comes in through the top too doesn’t it god I’m cold just thinking about it. Am going out for a walk now and have put on thick almost pure wool socks so I can wear my runners even though they’re not winter weight ones (mesh top) - and it takes a good while at a brisk clip to warm up! Brrrr. Granted, it’s -1 degrees here.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/12/2019 08:57

Anmer rénovations were paid for by the Queen

However tax payers have to pay for police to guard the house.

This bit is what I object to the most about Royals. The cost of guarding them.

Out of interest, who is this mystery billionaire who has lent a Harry & Meghan their house? Are they paying for all the private security too?
I do wonder what people get from giving royals freebies.
Kudos? Publicity for their business?

Apparently this house in Canada has been lingering on the property market so with all this free publicity; it will probably sell soon.

BlingLoving · 29/12/2019 09:14

Bani.- yes yes yes. This is always my issue too. Admittedly, I have been known to be in the cty in a dress and heels with a coat, leaving my lower legs exposed. But I hate it.

Having said that, my smart work wool cost, purchased years ago for an eye watering amount of money (for me - £495 but I was working in investment banking at the time so it seemed like a legit purchase), is fab and I love it but to be honest , I've always been surprised by how it isn't terribly warm! I thought wool coats were the thing! So I still use it but if I need actual warmth, I'm wearing my puffy coat with thermal leggings under jeans!!!

BlingLoving · 29/12/2019 09:18

I think rich and famous people do the lending thing all the time. Come to think of it, so fo less rich people- if you are lucky enough to have a holiday house for example, chances are you have let a friend or family member borrow it.

I dont resent security cost because WE are the reason they need it. The dm has been printing excessive stories about this trip and probably have 3 reporters and photographers camped out. Plus if anyone does want to do them harm the fact that the media or people on sm cant help themselves and post pictures and updates means that they are often easily found.

I can never quite understand the resentment re the security. At the Christmas walk I was so happy to see the police presence because I thought poor charlotte and george.

itswinetime · 29/12/2019 09:22

Sorry my bad saw this article which compared the 2 and jumped to conclusions.

frogmore vs Anmer

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/12/2019 09:31

From what I've read, Frogmore was in a worse state of disrepair and had been earmarked for renovation before Harry decided to move in. A lot of the costs have been disputed in the court case too. But it's part of the Crown estate so if the money hadn't gone on that it would've gone on something else covered by the Sovereign Grant. The Anmer renovations were a few years ago now - I suspect they might cost more now.

Ooh I had a royal dream last night. I was mates with Kate and we discovered some sort of giant conspiracy involving the government etc. Alas I can't remember what the conspiracy involved! Anyway there were lots of twists and turns and secret agents after us etc and then we discovered that William was behind it all and had ordered a hit on her. At that point I woke up!

I did watch a few episodes of Scandal before bed so I blame it on that..,

True. I have free access to two houses in the Med owned between the same couple in our family, neither of whom are particularly well off.

Don't see the issue with the Sussexes.

AppleKatie · 29/12/2019 09:40

I don’t resent the cost of guarding them. If I was at risk like they are I’d want to be guarded too.
