Is it just the "working royals" who get security? I don't think Beatrice and Eugenie do, although I assume the Wessex children are covered by their parents'.

It is just the working Royals who get security. Diana didn’t have any once she was divorced.
I don’t get why they need a huge house for three people and a baby. I thought it was sold to a mystery buyer a few years ago, so not on the market.
Maybe the security team are in the cottage in the grounds .

TipseyTorvey · 29/12/2019 09:50

I do think the M and H documentary when watched in its entirety was really good and much more about Harry and the work they were doing, but she should never have made a single remark in public about how hard her life is. Especially since she was in a country where people are struggling so much. She really needs a good PR team who can train her to never let her guard down in public and certainly not on camera. I do like them both but even I face palmed at that bit.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/12/2019 09:58

£20 million on security for the Windsor weddings.
Yes, the Cambridges; the Queen, Charles & Camilla and the Sussexes require security when working.

Are there 4 or 6 ppos basically living in Canada now looking after the Sussexes?
I guess the good thing is the Canadians will be footing the rest of the security bill.

I am just struggling with all the unearned and disproportionate privilege. And this is from someone who has always been a monarchist.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/12/2019 10:02

Why do ANY of them need such huge houses? Surely a 5 bed semi rather than a mansion with 15+ rooms would do for all of them?

There's an article in the Fail about Edo, how he had a last minute invitation to Sandringham which caused a panic as he had to bring so many outfit changes for the festivities, and how it can be a real headache for the female guests.

I'm tempted to do an imaginary shopping spree putting together my last minute outfits from Net a Porter and Matches! I think I might go with dark green, like Kate's hat and Charlotte's coat for my walk to church outfit, maybe with navy accessories, I'd definitely go with boots though. I know it's heresy on this thread but Im considering an Erdem dress for the Christmas Eve dinner!

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/12/2019 10:03

A 5 bed semi each, of course!

Yes indeed.

queenofarles · 29/12/2019 10:07

For sure the stay at the house was a gift to H&M .
Maybe it belongs to one of the Billionaires he met at the google climate summit.

No idea about Cost of protection, the property looks huge. Doubt just their protection officers are doing all the job. Does Prince Charles pay or mystery Billionaire ?

I didn’t know Amner hall was privately renovated. There are pictures of Kate shopping for furnishings at CDC and Bernard Thorpe. Probably she did it herself.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 29/12/2019 10:08

More than 4 to 6 people I would guess. Nanny, cook, cleaning staff, several protection officers. They would be Royal protection officers so why would the Canadian govt be paying?

Horsemad · 29/12/2019 10:23

I bet it's interesting being married/partnered to a Royal PPO... 😉

banivani · 29/12/2019 10:46

bling At the risk of sounding like Miss Silver from a Patricia Wentworth novel - they don’t make wool like they used to. A proper wool coat would have been almost wind proof it’d be so thickly woven. Also in days of yore let’s. not forget they’d be wearing wool near the skin too so layers and layers of wool. Warm.

What is the role of monarchy in these days if they are not to be richer than the rest of us? Genuine question. They do nothing politically (it’s just fronting a bit) so the entire purpose of having a monarchy is representation and show. If you raise a group of people in the old kind of stately homes those are also the homes they think of as normal. To a certain extent they also feel like the houses are quite public ime, like the houses also own them and larger sections of them can be for representation.

queenofarles · 29/12/2019 11:27

I have no issues with several big residential houses. Protection officers etc, it has always been like that for royals. The bit where Will tells Mary Berry that he wants his children to know that there is a different life outside place walls, that’s as truthful as they can get, this is their life and they can’t change that.

No use in pretending they can live in a semi!

I really wished H&M would have chosen a smallish holiday property instead of this eyesore. it’s so refreshing to chose something completely different to what you are used to.

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/12/2019 12:00

I was joking about the semi...

queenofarles · 29/12/2019 12:17

Oh I know that Queen Smile

AppleKatie · 29/12/2019 12:30

Although that is a documentary I would watch ‘royal holiday in a semi in Maidstone or similar’ 😂

QueenOfTheAndals · 29/12/2019 12:35

Oh good @queenofarles, you can never be sure of tone coming through on here!

I'd watch that @AppleKatie but it would have to feature Charles and Camilla for maximum entertainment!

OP posts:
AppleKatie · 29/12/2019 12:49

Yes Charles, Camilla, Harry, Meghan and Archie in one side, the Cambridge’s in the other. Eugenie and Beatrice in a bedsit down the road?

SenecaFalls · 29/12/2019 13:04

These are threads primarily about fashion. So let's face it; if they were not privileged people, we likely wouldn't be interested in what they were wearing.

AngelaScandal · 29/12/2019 14:03

‘Royal Famly do Aldi’

Becles · 29/12/2019 14:34

@JohnLewisIain

You might want to start your own thread about this@SunsetBoulevard3. I just want to know what colour her jogging bottoms are

For some reason I have a raspberry coloured jogging bottom in mind. Would look great on her I think.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 29/12/2019 16:03

More church going today.
I like Anne & Sophie’s country style trilbies.
I suspect in the future ( once HM has passed), the Wessexes and Princess Anne’s family will be regulars at Sandringham

I’m a republican but do enjoy these style threads, especially the overseas royals and jewelry!

Am wearing some pearls today myself, trying to channel Claire Foy.

AmandaLorian · 29/12/2019 16:26

@CurlyWurlyTwirly why would the Canadian people have to pay for the private visit of a member of the British royal family? I would assume that all private visits were also privately funded. Perhaps someone else can help shed some light on this issue?

SeaRabbit · 29/12/2019 19:31

The most difficult thing for me if I joined the royal family would be remembering to SMILE when I risked being photographed in a car. They all seem to do it, yet walking and driving around you don't see people grinning like that.
