Grin. Glad to see that there are other fans here.

queenofarles · 04/12/2019 08:45

Trudeau must be the Paul Rudd of politics.

peridito · 04/12/2019 08:45

While looking at Kate's earrings I came across this pic .

Can someone tell me more about the mens's breeches/trousers ? What are they called ,what occasions are they worn at ? What does the garter denote ?

peridito · 04/12/2019 08:49

Are there buckles on the men's shoes ?

queenofarles · 04/12/2019 08:52

Well not Mr nice Guy after all , just seen the clip of Trudeau,Boris and Macron Gossiping about Trump. It’s actually funny Grin.
Hate to think what trump’s reaction would be if he finds out, probably declare war on all three countries!

BlingLoving · 04/12/2019 09:06

This was my first thought when I saw the clip. He WILL find out. Obviously - it's all over SM. And he will be livid. The question is whether he can be reigned in sufficiently by his team or whether he'll blow up and start issuing threads and storming around like a tantrumming toddler. It actually scares me.

It also scares me that world leaders were so STUPID as to talk like that at this type of event. FFS. It's 2019, not 1919. There are cameras etc everywhere. Keep your gossip to your private conversations.

IfWishesWereFishes · 04/12/2019 09:13

Oh come on, who hasn't livened up a dull work event with some pissstaking about the office wanker!? They are normal people, having a normal conversation.

Not sure what Johnson is laughing at though when he's no better.

Becles · 04/12/2019 09:18

Princess Anne tweets about the reception led me to the discovery of Baby Yoda.

Omg such cuteness.

BlingLoving · 04/12/2019 09:21

NO, they're not. They're people who literally have the power in their hands to launch WW3. They are at a work event with many other similarly powerful people and are being watched by the entire world. This is NOT the same as me and a few colleagues gathering to have a bit of a whinge about the boss in a dark corner of the office christmas party.

BeatriceTheBeast · 04/12/2019 09:22

I don't actually think the gossiping about Trump is bad enough even for him to have a tantrum...but predicting what someone who is truly unpredictable will do is obviously very difficult and who fucking knows?

MotherofPearl · 04/12/2019 09:36

Nobody loves a Wickstead as much as @BertrandRussell! Grin It was very dull though.

BertrandRussell · 04/12/2019 09:39

I’m with Bling in my sense of humour failure about this......

And I’m just saying want everyone thinks about Wicksteed but is afraid to say! Grin

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 04/12/2019 09:43

@peridito

It’s Victorian court dress.
I saw an exhibition at KP; Prince Albert wore similar breeches and stockings, but fancier jackets

peridito · 04/12/2019 09:52

Thanks Curly .

A skim read of Wikipedia gives this
Male members of the Royal Family continue to wear 'Alternative Court Dress' (with knee-breeches) for the annual Diplomatic Reception at Buckingham Palace

I wonder why that event and not others ? And why the women aren't also in at least a version of Court Dress . Though I suppose the queen and Camilla were because they were wearing white .

QueenOfTheAndals · 04/12/2019 09:56

Kate has a similar green Catherine Walker dress, which is what I thought she was wearing when I saw the photo of her in the car yesterday.

According to Omid Scobie H&M really are in the US at the moment but it's the last paragraph of this article that got my eyes popping - apparently the royal family have a weigh-in on a pair of antique scales before and after Christmas dinner!

I’ve read that before- it’s when you arrive and leave Sandringham. So they know you’ve had a nice time (eaten well)!

banivani · 04/12/2019 10:36

please post the links so I don't have to do so much searching myself! :(

MotherofPearl · 04/12/2019 10:44

Sorry - no idea how I've repeated my post but there we are. Blush

BlingLoving · 04/12/2019 11:07

I couldn't care less if Kate has 500 dresses. But the same 500 dresses does irritate me. If you like a dress, colour and style, rewear the one you already have ffs. Don't buy an identical one from another designer. it's just irritating. eg I can live with the same dress in multiple colours because they're different from each other. But not the same dress from different designers that aren't different at all. sigh.

I mean, it's not like the classic white shirt which we're all told to have 5 in our wardrobe.... a) we're washing the others while wearing one and b) actually, the slightly different length, fit, details Do make a difference in a way that a new dart on the same emerald green dress just doesn't.

astralweaks · 04/12/2019 11:14

Melania looks very stylish. Charles looked years younger when he looked into her eyes!

Camilla looked nice and not at all “frumpy”. The red was a welcome change from the succession of mother of the bride efforts she usually favours.

Kate’s laughing pic was awful and so fake but the Trudeau eye to eye must have been enjoyable for her. Not sure Justin is being naughty as such - he must have that effect on most women. He even tries it on with the Queen, clasping her hand in both of his.

IfWishesWereFishes · 04/12/2019 11:29

They're still human! The person who filmed them unwittingly and posted it online is more in the wrong than they are. Plus it's nothing that the entire world doesn't already know.

BeatriceTheBeast · 04/12/2019 11:35

I also think getting angry with the fairly normal world leaders, (bar Johnson, but compared to Trump), because the POTUS is so fucking u hinged that he can't be trusted not to declare war over a very minor negative comment is misplaced. I say that as a US citizen.

astralweaks · 04/12/2019 11:39

I love the video of Boris and co. - including Princess Anne - sniggering about Trump. Priceless.
