For a bit of nostalgia! I’ll kick things off..

  • Hard Candy makeup and nail polish. I had a quad of eyeshadows in purples and golds, thought it was the shit!
  • hair mascaras. Wtf were they about. Made your hair look like a gunky stringy mess
  • body shop dewberry body spray, which was the thing at our school, along with
  • wearing boy’s Lynx deodorant (I still recall which boys I fancied wore Tempest!)
  • heather shimmer lipstick, obviously
  • Rouge Noir nail polish, which everyone thought was the shit cos of Pulp Fiction, but it turned out to not even be the one that Uma Thurman wore)

Hit me with your memories!

I can almost smell Body Shop Ananya still. I'd so love to have that again. They should definitely do a retro range, with the proper three swirls logo again (two looks wrong).

Shangrilalala · 17/11/2019 08:16

One Christmas, I had an Elancyl rubber cellulite reducer. It was a hard, space age looking contraption which you filled with goo and rubbed and rubbed your cellulite away. I just ended up with very red, very sore thighs. And cellulite. My best friend had one too and it did nothing for her either. Such gullible teens, but we thought we were the epitome of French, Marie-Claire reading style.

And later, Body Shop saved my problematic scalp with its orange oil shampoo. It disappeared overnight and I still search for similar formulations, always in vain. Loved their Tea Rose spritz: pure nostalgia for my university days. Fragonard have a similar scent via M&S, but it’s nothing like (nor as cheap) as good old Body Shop of yesteryear.

BiBiBirdie · 17/11/2019 08:42

I remember all the Constance Carroll make up.
We had this huge independent bazar type shop in our street in about 1995/6, when I was around 14. It was so big but run by one very old, very tiny old lady.
My friend was a prolific 14 year old mini crime wave in that store and would come out with loads of shag band bracelets, hair scrunchies and Constance Carroll make up she pinched from there. Most teenage girls did from that store.
I was a huge nerd and scaredy cat so never took part but was the owner of quite the scrunchie and make up collection as a result of my mate.
She's since stopped her teenage naughty ways and is a very sensible mum and wife now.

TheCanterburyWhales · 17/11/2019 08:45

Wincarnis- Courant was one of the first perfumes I bought my Mum. It had been advertised in Melanie magazine (which was my first teen comic after abandoning Bunty and the cut out dolls) It was 49p which was a blimmin' fortune.

I also remember the Boots pseudo Edwardian lady sets, you got a lavender scent in a round bottle and a lavender and oatmeal soap. At the time it was really something you'd buy for Great Grannie and yet look how trendy natural stuff then became.

TheCanterburyWhales · 17/11/2019 08:48

This thread is bloody lovely btw. Smile

Ponks · 17/11/2019 08:54

Glints hair dye. Far superior to Shaders &Toners. I spent so long trying to dye my hair black as the photo on the packet was so glamorous. Did make hair so shiny!

Miners adverts in Jackie and Just Seventeen, they had a double paged spread with photos of all the products and colour ways.

Twighlight Teaser by Boots 17, of course.

Miss Selfridge makeup, I had a shocking pink lipstick that had to be scrubbed off, it lasted so well. And a blue shimmer one too - eek 1985 was a super shimmery year.

Vidal Sassoon shampoo and conditioner, what a gorgeous smell.

Fuckloadofcheese · 17/11/2019 09:04

I nearly mentioned Leichner makeup but thought nobody would remember it! The display in our Boots was always a mess and I used to eye up their nude lipsticks.

Anyone remember the Body SHop cotton totes? There was a hot pink one that was de rigeur!

Gatekeeper · 17/11/2019 09:23

Miss selfridge copper knockers lipstick

Gatekeeper · 17/11/2019 09:32

Ha @Shangrilalala... I had the Elancyl rubber cellulite thingy as well; used horse chestnut based stuff in. Used to hurt like hell and didn't do a thing other than make me go blotchy

echt · 17/11/2019 09:35

A big thumbs up for previous mentions of:

Aqua Manda
Anne French cleanser
Kiku perfume

What about Cheekychops, a pearly stick from Woolworths that made you look as though you'd covered your face with glue and run through Accessorise ( though it didn't exist at the time)?

The orange and white styling of the Boots No 17 make-up range.

dementedma · 17/11/2019 09:42

I still use 4-7-11 cologne in the summer. I love the lemony smell.

I loved those old Rommel ads! My sister and I used to pore over them and plan what we would spend our pocket money on.

Other ancient joys:
Goya Black Rose scent
Kiku, Babe and Xanadu perfume
Morny Sandalwood, and Meadowsweet
Rimmel Black Cherry. There was also a fabulous shimmery colour, Red In Gold or something similar, with matching nail polish
Evette and Tu makeup in Woolies
Burgundy toners - didn’t show up so well on my dark hair sadly
Cola flavoured lipgloss in a rollerball bottle
Aprii exfoliating pads (nicely scented sandpaper)
Shock Waves hair gel and hairspray

Lamentations · 17/11/2019 10:06

I still have a Dewberry perfume oil from Body Shop, I'd kill for their rose musk oil, that was the best smell ever.

YY to Flex shampoo but also the conditioner, looked like custard, beautiful.

There's an instagram account called discontinuedmskeupp which you'd all enjoy immensely by the sound of it.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 17/11/2019 10:20

Vidal Sassoon 3 stage shampoo and conditioner. Smelled of marzipan
I wore Body Shop Vanilla
Stu stu studio line hair products

OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 17/11/2019 10:57

You can get Sun in from Superdrug. God knows why, sure it should be banned under some treaty on chemical weapons.
I had a Miners panda eyes palette. The yellow made you look like you'd had a black eye.
For anyone in australia- Yardley oat facial range. Rimmel Black Tulip nail polish.

JumpyLiz · 17/11/2019 10:59

Back in the 90's there was a trendy little independent shop in town that had a stand of Montagne Jeunesse toiletries. They were kind of like Body Shop with the fruit scents etc but a bit edgier and not as sweet.

I used to think it was the dogs bollocks.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 17/11/2019 11:03

Does anyone remember Audacity perfume, we all wore that before moving on to Body Shop Dewberry or White Musk.
Japanese washing grains in a little cardboard tub.
Studio Line gelling curls - amazing stuff.
Rimmel frosted pink lipstick.

There was also a Red apple shampoo, don't know if it was vo5 or another brand. Gorgeous smell.

Avon Little Blossom range - I still have the scent bottle on my dressing table! I had the wash off nail polish too!
