How often do you wash your hair?

As above really! Just curious - I have fine hair and always washed it daily. Trying to increase the length of time between washes to extend the lifetime of my colour. Thanks

Every other day and sometimes I extend that by another day when it is freshly cut. Tip: apply dry shampoo before you go to bed if you don't want to wash it next day.

Deecaff · 17/11/2019 09:46

Every other day.

Have never tried dry shampoo - I imagine it to be itchy??

Careradvice2019 · 17/11/2019 09:53

About 3 times a year
My hair is VERY curly , but generally looks after itself ... I shampoo about 3 times a year but co-wash about once a month - 6 weeks

Lexplorer · 17/11/2019 09:54

Once every 7 - 10 days. I straighten it every morning but it never feels dirty or smelly. I really only wash it because I can't remember the last time I did it.

BennyTheBall · 17/11/2019 09:57

About twice a week. It’s long and curly and non greasy. I just refresh the curls by making them damp.

Lexplorer · 17/11/2019 09:57

Can I ask carer, why do you shampoo it at all? Is it because you feel you have to? Because it obviously doesn't need it. How wonderful to have that balance, lucky thing!

catismychild · 17/11/2019 10:06

Once a week, will often stretch to a week and a half. My hair is long, thick and curly, mixture of 3b and 3c.

WinterRose92 · 17/11/2019 10:11

Every 2-3 days for me. I use dry shampoo if it looks a bit greasy or needs a bit of volume.
It’s quite a bit past my shoulders, I’m letting it grow.

catismychild · 17/11/2019 10:12

@Careradvice2019 intrigued to know what you do to maintain your hair in between co-washes? My hair starts to resemble a birds nest in the 2nd week

Careradvice2019 · 17/11/2019 10:47

My hair generally looks after itself , one of my friends smells it when we meet up and says it's smells of hair Smile don't know what that means.
I wash it to mainly get rid of product build up , I don't use much product but when I go out to socialise I put product in so every 4 months ish I give it a wash with shampoo as product build up can get a bit much , my hair is neither greasy or dry , it's average , I co wash with conditioner with no parabens or cones ( curly girl method )
I'm lucky , when I do go out socialising it takes less than ten minutes to look ok , I generally wear it up in a bun on a day to day basis
When I shower I run a brush through it so it doesn't become knotty or matted . It's easy to manage

Newmumma83 · 17/11/2019 10:56

Once a week used to do it everyday.
Honestly having a baby washing hair was a luxury in the newborn phase ... that helped me re train my hair ... I was told the more you wash it the greaser it gets

That and my hair loves in a plait or ponytail now so the lack of straightening and products prob helps keep it less greasy for longer as it isn’t overally played with

Newmumma83 · 17/11/2019 10:56

Lives not loves

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone · 17/11/2019 13:55

@redchocolatebutton how can squirting a bit of dry shampoo on your hair (5 seconds) and then brushing it (10 seconds) take as long as washing it?

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 17/11/2019 14:05

I used to have to do it every day, but I've been stretching that, and now, with judicious application of a bit of dry shampoo I can last 4-5 days (or a week if I'm not going anywhere I have to be decent).

I do just pull it back into a ponytail most of the time though, so I don't have any style to maintain.

ChrisPriss · 17/11/2019 14:07

Every day in the shower, shampoo once and conditioner on ends only (shoulder length) Occasionally I miss a day and feel unclean

Silverstreaks · 18/11/2019 14:45

About twice a week. Wash, conditioner, blot, add more conditioner, then a small amount of argan or broccoli oil to towel dried hair. After drying a little more oil smoothed through.
This is all since the menopause. It only gets greasy if I use stuff that irritates my scalp.

FairyJuice · 18/11/2019 15:01

Long hair here and I wash mine twice a week, though I have been known to stretch it out to 5-7 days if it's a particularly manic week. I wear it down for the first 2-3 days, then after that it's braided or up in a ponytail/bun. I normally use dry shampoo on day 4 to freshen it up and stretch it til I have time to wash it.

If I washed mine every day or 2 it would get really dry and frizzy and my scalp would get flakey. Plus, where do people find the time???

GrumpyHoonMain · 18/11/2019 15:04

I have thick, dry, medusa hair - can’t wash it more than once a week (one a fortnight during pregnancy) otherwise it just gets too dry.

FairyJuice · 18/11/2019 15:07

carer that's amazing! Do you have to wet it to comb the curls through? Do you ever put product in it?

I tried CG for a while a few years ago and gave it a good 6 months of just co washing but it didn't work for me at all Sad So now I just blow dry straight and it works it's way into loose waves that I'm happy with.

fedup21 · 18/11/2019 15:08

Twice a week-very thick hair that takes ages to dry.

OMGshefoundmeout · 18/11/2019 15:41

Every 4/5 days approx. If I achieve a really good bouncy blow dry it can go for a week without washing but that doesn’t happen often as I get bored and rush it.

MerryDeath · 18/11/2019 15:44

if i am in a heat styling phase i can go up to 6 days. if I'm in a ~natural phase i'd prefer to do it every third night.

Abraid2 · 18/11/2019 15:45

Mine is short and fine and I wash it every two to three days. I use dry shampoo in between washes.

GoGoJo · 18/11/2019 16:36

Used to be every other day but I've now gone no-poo and after a bit of transition I'm down to once every 8-10 days or so, trying to push to 2 weeks. I have below bra strap thick straightish hair

I've used a variety of concoctions but egg is working best for me at the moment. You can't use it too often though hence why I'm trying to stretch it more.

I use a boar bristle brush a few times a week to freshen it up and move the oils down.

Aloe Vera is an amazing conditioner and apple cider vinegar is also fab.

saucyspice · 18/11/2019 19:47

Every third day. Used to be every other day but in the evenings now I wash every third day but in the mornings. My hair does seem to take longer to get greasy in between washes now which is good
