How often do you wash your hair?

As above really! Just curious - I have fine hair and always washed it daily. Trying to increase the length of time between washes to extend the lifetime of my colour. Thanks

Super thick curly hair that I don’t style so every ten days to a fortnight.

Cecilandsnail · 16/11/2019 20:59

Every other day. It needs washing daily (very fine, plus alopecia has made it really thin so it needs the mega bouncy massive barrel brush blow dry to look passable), but I push it to every otherso I'm not putting too much stress on my remaining hair whilst also keeping my scalp clean enough to really absorb the caffeine scalp oil stuff I have to use. I get by using dry shampoo or hats (thank god for winter!). Sometimes it looks better on day 2, sometimes it looks like I haven't washed it for a fortnight. I envy envy envy people with lovely thick hair even if it is a pain in the ass to wash and dry. Seeing men with lovely hair being a me to tears sometimes. They don't fucking need it! I need it!

tabulahrasa · 16/11/2019 21:08

Twice a week...

I could do it a bit less often in terms of it actually needing washed, but it’s fine and wavy/curly and on day 4 I need to properly wet it as it starts to sit not right and if I’m going to wet it or co-wash to get an extra day, I might as well go the whole hog and wash it... and it fits with what days I’m in work as well.

If I’m not working and can just tie it back, it’s about 6 days before it actually gets dirty.

wickedfairy · 16/11/2019 21:26

Thank you all for your replies! So interesting to hear what everyone does!

I just started to try dry shampoo and although I'm not overly keen on the feel of my hair on day 2, it looks the same. Had day 3 today but that's from having a professional blow dry after my colour. I'll wash tomorrow and then not the day after. Will see if I need dry shampoo on day 2 or not...

People who use a shampoo bar - would that work for fine, straight hair (like mine) or is it better for thick or curly hair? Thanks

Once or twice a week. Short, thick, coloured hair.

Tigerty · 16/11/2019 22:08

Every other day sometimes every 3rd day. Can’t go 4 days as my hair would look greasy. I have lots of very fine hair. It’s naturally in good condition so my genetics play a part (hurrah as my genetics stuffed me on a lot of other stuff).

KateFoster · 16/11/2019 22:08

Once or twice a week

Auberjean · 16/11/2019 22:10

Once a week these days.

JaceLancs · 16/11/2019 22:10

Every 2-3 days
I’m 55 and my hair has got drier so actually beneficial to leave it

Longdistance · 16/11/2019 22:15

Every other day. Sometimes three days. Depends really. I can’t find a shampoo that makes my hair last longer tbh.
The first day I’ll have my hair down, and it’s bouncy. On the second day it’s lank and greasy looking, so I tie it up. Third day I wash it.

luckygreeneyes · 16/11/2019 22:16

Twice a week. Once by a junior at the hairdresser and once by me.

BeckyButters · 16/11/2019 22:51

Everything three days I reckon. I never use shampoo, strips the oils. I'm curly.

Fochit · 16/11/2019 22:56

LookToTreblesGoingTreblesGone Thanks

Hotsummerplease · 16/11/2019 23:01

Follow the curl girl routine, so only use conditioner, and wash every 4-6 days.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 16/11/2019 23:53

Every morning for work, but if we are having a Saturday or Sunday at home I might not bother.

StarlightLady · 17/11/2019 04:01

Every second day. Daily in the warmer weather.

MiniTheMinx · 17/11/2019 07:46

I've read somewhere that blow drying your hair can make your hair greasy. Applying heat to the roots encourages the scalp to produce oil.

picklemepopcorn · 17/11/2019 08:25

Shampoo strips oil off your hair, conditioner adds it back with some silicone (usually) to make it look smoother. Use less shampoo, just enough to get the dirt off rather than fully stripping the hair.

Ohyesiam · 17/11/2019 08:30

Over our twice a week, and even then its just to wash the product out. I think it would take months to get greasy, but luckily it doesn’t look dry.
I love my hair.

lorrylorryvanvan · 17/11/2019 08:31

Generally every other day or maybe I leave it 3 days over weekend. I use dry shampoo on non wash days and wear it curly to give it some lift as mine gets greasy and quickly and loses volume

GaaaaarlicBread · 17/11/2019 08:32

Every other or every three days depending on the day I’ve had ! If it’s been red hot (rare for the U.K. I know lol) then I wash it every night but if it’s just cold then it doesn’t get greasy . If it’s been raining and it’s got wet then I wash it too. But I never wash it in the morning , always at night and leave it to dry naturally. Dry shampoo is a saviour lol

WalkAwaySugarbear · 17/11/2019 08:32

2/3 days. I have long very thick hair that if left to dry naturally would take about 3 hours. I don't like blasting it with heat too much either, so if I style it properly it has to last a few days before doing it again. Unfortunately its fairly greasy too but I've persevered and can now get that extra day. Plus dry shampoo helps.

redchocolatebutton · 17/11/2019 09:12

I don't see the point in dry shampoo.
to use it takes longer than a quick wash ime.
but then again I just rinse my hair in the shower every day and only use products twice a week.

MunchyMunchkin · 17/11/2019 09:15

Once a week using curly girl method. I can wear it down for the entire week if it’s behaving itself.

echt · 17/11/2019 09:18

Once every three weeks.
