Try Sainsbury's (brand is called Tu) both for pinafores and jumpers

bridgetreilly · 08/12/2019 00:23

keep seeing pinafores in shops and dismissing them, wondering if I should try one on!

Definitely!

TheSummoningDark · 08/12/2019 10:38

Just doing things at home so wearing jogger jeans, shirt & t shirt today.

Nice dress Alias. Hope you had a good time.

The dress I ordered arrived yesterday. I really like it but it's a bit more formal than I was expecting. I think it will be fine as day wear with some black or yellow tights and flat shoes. The find your size tool on the website was accurate (in case anybody is wondering).

My only night out in the run up to Christmas will be going to see Alter Bridge so I won't be needing anything fancy in the mosh pit.

steppemum · 09/12/2019 09:32

Thanks, TU stuff is always too short. Love their stuff but can't wear their tops, jumpers or dresses as they are always too short Sad.

Going to try a pinafore on next time I'm out

Daddylonglegs1965 · 09/12/2019 09:48

steppemum - I am 6ft and just purchased a midi cord skirt which was a fab length on me.

steppemum · 09/12/2019 10:06

from TU?
I do buy their trousers and skirts, but the jumpers and tops are too short on me dresses, the waistline is to far up under the bust

TheSummoningDark · 09/12/2019 10:44

steppemum Next do a tall range in some of their knitwear, but it might only be available online.

It might be worth having a look for tunic jumpers or jumper dresses. I'd be arrested for indecent exposure if I wore some of the so called dresses as a dress. You could even try a non fitted jumper dress in a petite range, although the sleeves may be a problem. Boyfriend fit jumpers may give you the extra length you need.

The other options I immediately thought of are more expensive. Fat Face jumpers seem to be a better length on me at 5'7. They do up to an 18 and some styles are generous size wise. White Stuff are a similar length, but a lot of them are quite fluffy and I'd recommend getting a pilling comb. They do up to a 22.

My SIL is over 6' and sometimes has to buy from Long Tall Sally, but they are also an expensive option.

thanks TheSummoning, that's really helpful

TakeMeToYourLiar · 09/12/2019 14:05

I've missed this thread, I lost you some how.

Today I'm wearing a paisley floaty navy dress from Joe Browns. Opaque black tights, black cardigan and flat knee high black suede boots

TheSummoningDark · 09/12/2019 14:11

Yes, sorry about that, not really an image I wanted to put out there. It serves me right for trying and failing to be funny

What I was trying to say was when I was looking at jumper dresses, some of the ones that came up were only just over hip length (not a dress, surely) but still described as a dress. I don't know if it was a mistake in the description, but you might be missing some better length options because they aren't included in the search.

TheSummoningDark · 09/12/2019 17:57

Sweatshirt - Next
Jeans - Fat Face
DM shoes (trying to break in)

Oh no, my two comments were disconnected! I thought your comment was funny.

THEN I genuinely meant the rest of your post was helpful!

I know what you mean about tunics and dresses. Most of my jumpers are technically tunic tops

TakeMeToYourLiar · 10/12/2019 06:26

Same issue here, unless a jumper or t shirt is advertised as longline or tunic forget it!

On a similar note, does anyone wants a size 26/28 green shirt dress. It's far too short to be a dress on me, and is too long to wear as a shirt. I can't send it back, so happy to send it to someone for postage

Yahboosnubsme · 10/12/2019 07:05

Size 16, 5'7". I'm wearing this dress from Dorothy Perkins today, it is soooooo flattering my big tummy is barely there www.dorothyperkins.com/en/dpuk/product/black-marble-print-keyhole-pleat-midi-dress-9051822

I'm on the train so can't take a picture of myself in it.

Don't worry steppemum, that's how I'd taken your comment.

It was more the fact I'd found my own comment disturbingly visual and couldn't quite shake the feeling I wasn't dressed! I should really stop making myself the (ahem) butt of my jokes.

TheSummoningDark · 10/12/2019 09:53

Next Christmas jumper and kick flare jeans (both old).
Still breaking in DM shoes. It'll be fine by Thursday when I need them, right? It's not fair, I've had 4 pairs previously and only had trouble once.

Present wrapping today so I thought I'd make the effort. Still in black though.

I have the opposite problems with clothes in that they are too long at 5'2. Tunics are always dresses on me.
Despite being overweight I have narrow shoulders and back which means I can look swamped in things.

I really like that dress yah boo. I'm going to embrace pleats I think after seeing lots of people looking great in them on here. I've ordered the famous new look silky pleated one.

Nothing interesting going on clothes-wise- I have on navy skinny work trousers, Clark's heels, a gap merino thin jumper, a crappy jacket from an unknown brand and a uniqlo linen scarf thing. Have a job interview hence the smartness! All from a charity shop bar the scarf.

Peachypips78 · 10/12/2019 12:26

Oh and that dress is lovely Mrs - I think it would pool on the ground on me!

TheSummoningDark · 10/12/2019 12:43

Good luck peachy.

steppemum · 10/12/2019 12:45

sorry no pic but
black jeans (ancient) BonMarche
arfican print long sleeved top which was a 'hand me down' fomr a friend and plain black cardi

Peachypips78 · 10/12/2019 20:02

I got the job. Must have been the scarf.

Can anyone recommend any plus-size insta people to follow? I want ideas...

motortroll · 11/12/2019 06:46

Reply to poster up thread...sorry only just saw your question @TheSummoningDark and tag not really working!

Trousers from Sainsbury's £20!!

Peachypips78 · 11/12/2019 18:47

I'm out at a carol singing thing wearing THE green satin pleated skirt and a black body suit. I would have never in a million years have worn this before this group! I would have thought I was too fat. Now I just think 'do I like it?' And if the answer is yes then I wear it!!!! Pic later.

QueenoftheNowhereverse · 13/12/2019 14:10

@Peachypips78 I’d like some plus size instas to follow too The only ones I find are either full on influencers (and/)or American, so I can’t afford/buy their clothes anyway
