Meh, wear what I like. Don't judge others.
Such a shame women have to put down other women because they are so insecure themselves.

BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 29/10/2019 09:39

Think some people are being a bit disingenous.

Outdoor scarf = a scarf whose purpose is to keep your neck warm when you go outside (probably knitted).

Indoor scarf therefore = any other scarf, usually worn inside as an accessory to an outfit.

Don't know about "there's nothing as frumpy as" them, but they are certainly very dated.

"Worn by all those frumpy french ladies with Bretton tops and ballet flats? Yes. Hellishly frumpy" Again I'm avoiding the word frumpy, but yes, this is a dated look. And seeing as this thread is in S&B I think it's ok to talk about what looks dated!

FlaviaAlbia · 29/10/2019 09:40

So do you just freeze if you're in a drafty house or building then? Woolly jumpers are good but they don't keep the back of your neck warm.

I'd rather be warm than fashionable Halloween Wink

ArtieFufkinPolymerRecords · 29/10/2019 09:41

Some of these replies are harsh. I wonder if people are replying because the thread is showing up in the Active list and they're getting it confused with AIBU - this is Style & Beauty so generally people posting here are bothered about being vaguely fashionable in line with current trends.

But the OP didn't say she was thinking of wearing scarves with her outfits indoors and asked whether she would look dated and out of touch with current trends, she just started a thread slagging off the clothing choices of others.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 29/10/2019 09:43

Meh, I am 54. I've seen fashions come and fashions go. Nothing so ludicrous as a fashionista adoring what was frumpy six months ago or sneering at what used to be fashionable.

Wear what you like and what makes you feel good. Style is not fashion.

chartreuse · 29/10/2019 09:43

Is that you fishie? It is, isn't it?! Inimitable posting style

Reassuring to see the years haven't diminished your desire to start a bun fight 😂

yourestandingonmyneck · 29/10/2019 09:43

I disagree completely. I actually think of them as pretty timeless and chic - they can be styled so many different ways and paired with so many different outfits etc. And there are some very talented designers and do some absolutely beautiful prints.

Yes, some women do tie them in a knot at their necks and look like air hostesses, but I don't think all scarf wearers can be tarred with this brush.

Incidentally, I don't wear them. I guess partly just not my style, but after this thread I think I could be tempted to try a few.

Also, I think silk or chiffon decorative scarfs would have been a better way to describe them. I think that has caused the confusion in some posters thinking you mean woolly scarves to be worn inside for warmth.

billandbenflowerpotmen1 · 29/10/2019 09:45

mum boots, leggings, tunics and White Stuff?
Shit just looked down at myself and this is me!

TheGoddessFrigg · 29/10/2019 09:47

I agree totally. There is something really fussy and dated about them - reminds me of Women's Realm tips to 'dress up an old outfit'. I think as you get older, simpler plain cuts are actually much more flattering.

FilledSoda · 29/10/2019 09:53

A silk scarf is a great layer between your neck and a scratchy wool coat , it also stops collars getting make up on them .

HandsOffMyRights · 29/10/2019 09:53

So is that a "no" for snoods too?

LavendarGreen · 29/10/2019 09:55

@AliciaQuays My DD wears them, and so do my nieces (all mind teens to late 20s;) and they look nice on them.

I never wear a scarf anyway though. But I don't think I would say they look frumpy. What looks frumpy - in my opinion - is when a woman who is short (say less that 5 foot 3,) and they wear a dress or skirt that is more than 3 inches below the knee.

GoldenHoops · 29/10/2019 09:55

Agree chartreuse 🐟

tinytoez · 29/10/2019 09:56

Is an indoor scarf the thin ones that are used as an accessory?

Camomila · 29/10/2019 09:57

I wear them a lot and I'm only 31. Better than the near constant sore throats I get in winter otherwise.

tinytoez · 29/10/2019 09:58

Thank you @BlairWaldorfLovesShopping for clearing that up! I was unsure what an indoor scarf was exactly.

MistySundaze · 29/10/2019 09:58

I don't care what's on trend, in fashion, or whatever. I wear what I wear because I like it and it suits me.

Yes, I'll team up an outfit with a scarf if it's complimentary.

Age has nothing to do with it.

It's called having a mind of your own!

bengalcat · 29/10/2019 09:58

I used to wear them a lot as an accessory in my 20’s and 30’s - now I just show off my wrinkly neck .

omikron · 29/10/2019 09:59

I would love to see a pic of the OP.

SpiderCharlotte · 29/10/2019 09:59

Nothing so ludicrous as a fashionista adoring what was frumpy six months ago or sneering at what used to be fashionable.

Completely agree.

Style is not fashion. This is so true @TinklyLittleLaugh. There are a fair few fashion victims on Style and Beauty who confuse the two regularly IMO. Slavishly wearing what magazines tell you is fashionable is rarely a good idea.

I think as you get older, simpler plain cuts are actually much more flattering. I agree to a degree @TheGoddessFrigg, however, I think that knowing what suits you is more flattering than anything else.

SpiderCharlotte · 29/10/2019 10:00

I would love to see a pic of the OP.

Oh I highly doubt that will happen. Grin

Elodie2019 · 29/10/2019 10:01

I dislike them (obv wear if you’re still channelling 2010) because they’re mumsy. Dated. The kind of woman who’d be “with it”. Etc. Do what you like. I just think OUT.

Are you 16 OP?
When you grow up a bit, 'channelling' decades past will be the least of your worries.

Paddingtonthebear · 29/10/2019 10:01
Confused

Can someone post some example pics?

KurriKurri · 29/10/2019 10:06

I only wear scarves to keep warm - whether indoors or outdoors.
But for neck warmth I now have a knitted insert that converts any top to a polo neck - it is the dogs bollocks, and definitely the way to go if you don't want to look frumpy or Mumsy. I am a trend setter and the envy of all indoor scarf wearers (or I should be).

Boireannachlaidir · 29/10/2019 10:06

Lol "indoor" scarf. Are you a man?

I think you mean scarf, honey.

Whilst we're chatting about shit and putting women down with words like "frumpy" and "mumsy", anyone got a view on men wearing scarfs? A bit "dadsy"? Hmm
