Tell me honestly, are these "mum boots"?

And what would they be OK to wear with? Obviously jeans etc, but what about skirts/dresses/nice linen trousers? Would I look a twat?

These are great for walking on rugged terrain, but not hiking per se. I don't understand why you call them "mum boots", though.🤔

More like dad shoes than mum shoes. There's a time and a place for them (up a mountain).

Honestly, it’s no big deal. It won’t look trendy but who cares if they’re comfortable.

Woman at the school gates wears wellies in the summer with skirts, dresses, shirts whatever. She’s a strapping 6ft African woman so is hardly unnoticeable.

It might be a good idea to also look at decent trainers (new balance and Nike) Or even the proper running ones, Saucony, Brooks, Hokka etc. Some of the rigid styles could be more supportive.
Hiking boots are quite heavy. I'm not sure they're the best for urban walking.

I asked about "mum boots" because that's what my sons said when they saw them! Personally I think they are lovely, and my painful feet are the priority (have lost 4 stone by walking and changing my diet, and don't want to stop because of sodding PF) but I also don't want to look a twat.

Bluntness it was your rudeness that made me laugh. Very funny.

So what have you had on your feet whilst losing 4 stone and out walking?

I'm seeing a picture of trainers. Is that right?

I had a pair of tan suede Croc boots with gel orthotics in them that were relatively comfortable when I was walking up to 5 miles a day, but once I started doing closer to ten miles the PF ramped up hugely. Physio said the boots were too flat even with the gel insoles and I needed something with more inbuilt support. Research suggests Merrell boots have good arch support and good for PF.

OP wearing them whilst walking is fine, as this is what they’re for, but for “most of the time” honestly your feet will BAKE!

I have two pairs of Merrell boots and I love them! Had one pair since 2010 snow and they’re mid calf length, the others are walking boots, I’ve worn them with dresses and thick tights etc but only to get me from a to b in cold or icy/snowy weather - I would never wear them all day long 🥵

Oh and I have high arches OP and Merrell are brill for this.
Try find some Merrell shoes instead though.

No-it’s a picture of walking boots. They aren’t mum boots no, just solid walking boots-and everyone else’s links are ugly as fuck as well!😂

Sorry didn't mean to be rude, it was a valid question, but huge well done on your weight loss, that's fantastic.

Op, the point people are making is not they are. It suitable for walking, they clearly are, what peoooe are saying is they are not suitable for dresses and skirts.

I think they're fantastic with jeans or trousers, struggling to see them with a dress or skirt though. But do whatever you like and be proud!!

Sketchers might work?

I have those boots!! and I am a mum!!
I also have plantar fascilitis and Ive found those boots to be good as they support the foot arch. I am also doing alot of outdoor work, so they are great for me. And yes I do wear them with other stuff too, and my 19 year old daughter stole my black and red ones because they apparently are dope

I have taken the merrell insoles out and used superfeet green in there instead.
Birkenstocks have also saved my life

Well done on the weight loss.

The boots are horrible, I would be inclined to go for a proper running trainer, which are obviously suitable for walking as well. You can get waterproof ones if that's important to you. Just for an example the Brooks Ghost 12 GTX are waterproof.

To be fair OP you did leave out huge details in your post.

Had you said you had foot problems and were walking miles a day you'd have got very different replies. I responded to a fashion question!

merrells are great for PF
I bought some Hoka bondi but they feel a bit too cushionie for me.
Ive got some smart birkenstock boots

I like those as walking boots. I wear mine with any trousers/leggings out walking. I always feel purposeful when I’ve got the on Smile I don’t own a skirt so can’t comment on that.

I completely get the need to walk and be comfortable. There's nothing the matter with wearing something that is blatantly casual even with some fancier clothes but perhaps you will want to change into a easily packable pair of flats when you get to wherever - work/party/etc.

Personally Merrills don't fit me but that wouldn't stop me if I felt it necessary. I've gone for sketchers myself - still a bit clunky but then I don't' dress particularly femininely and frankly don't much give a toss what people think.

walking, stick with something solid. you need the support. the cushiony bouncy of trainers and running shoes is good for impact when at speed but it can trigger the PF which is agony. you have my sympathy.

the superfeet green insoles are brilliant though, and can be put into a range of shoes so that you dont damage the foot.

the other 2 things which have helped me - massage your foot before you get out of bed to loosen up the tendons

put your heel on the floor when you sit on your bed, and with your toes draw out the letters of the alphabet from a-z. this moves all the muscles and strengthens them. And do those lifts with toes on edge of a stair, going up and down, about 10 times

I'd say you could wear those with jeans / casual shorts but are too bulky and complicated for a dress.
Maybe a black jumper dress with leggings at a push for going to the shops or whatnot.

Exactly this. In this case I'd say wear what you like, but do be aware that - as a PP says - your feet will be quite warm in these. They're also waterproof. I guess that can only be a plus? Grin. They'll be quite a faff to get on and off so no quick changes for you.

I wear my walking boots with skirts and dresses. I think it looks fine! I mean, not going to win any fashion awards but I've never felt daft or anything. I tend to layer quite a lot and they go perfectly well. My DH always says you only get one pair of feet so comfort and support is the most important thing. I wouldn't worry at all, I doubt anyone would ever notice what you're wearing!
