Thanks Queen ,tired tonight and being stupid!

woodymiller · 16/10/2019 20:25

Well I've been reading without commenting for ages on these threads but I have to put my de-lurk & say I've got that Mint Velvet shirt dress, I love it but I don't think I'll be adding a skirt and coalman jerkin to it.

MrsGrindah · 16/10/2019 20:29

Can I just say...as a general rule of thumb...I think the royal ladies should shy away from a predominantly brown palette

paradyning · 16/10/2019 20:34

4 shades of brown. Mix of materials. Just hideous. She looks like she's trawled through a charity shop and grabbed 4 random items of clothing.
I'm sure there were way more appropriate clothing to be worn.
In isolation I'm sure the shirt dress and boots are lovely. But that look is not good. A silky bias cut skirt over suede boots, under a cotton shirt and leather waistcoat?

QueenOfTheAndals · 16/10/2019 20:35

I actually like the shirt dress and think brown suits Kate, but that was a lot of it today!

MrsGrindah · 16/10/2019 20:39

Or denim would have been good today

Wetdogloveshubert · 16/10/2019 21:00

Wow I'm definitely in the minority tonight then, in thinking that Kate looked very suitable in that combination. Intrepid, almost.

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 16/10/2019 21:13

I agree with you, @Wetdogloveshubert. I liked what Kate was wearing. Really appropriate I thought. But then I love all shades of brown!

FiveTwoFaster · 16/10/2019 21:17

I think I’m getting worried about my own Royal favoritism. I have loved everything Kate has worn despite the concerning brownliness in the most recent pics. She just looks like she’s trying. And I always always love “foreign office” wardrobe over domestic clothes. I think I have it in my head that she feels able to show off more in terms of colour and style and wearing British to “represent” but also local designers which make it all both respectful to the country she’s visiting and considerably more interesting fashion wise. I know lots of people hate her theme dressing but I quite like it. It’s a guide and gets people talking and she is smiley and enthusiastic and extremely thin so frankly, most things look nice on her.

In essence - abroad, I give them a break as they have slightly more to do than their UK appointments.

Does Princess Anne ever go abroad? Or does she just shoulder the slurry factory ribbon cutting and lighthouse admiration in return for being home with her horses every weekend?

thenewname · 16/10/2019 21:29

fivetwo I completely agree! I also think she has a strong sense of her own look and pitches it perfectly so that she is always elegant even if she veers a little too old or prim.

At least she looks different from the usual celebs! And I seriously doubt the RF have any desire for another fashiony, charisma-laden Diana figure!

I really think she plays a very long, skilful and astute game. She’s just steady as a rock. I think royal families are a weird concept and actually kind of immoral (we were born and now we are much wealthier and more important than you, oh, and you must believe in us if you EVER want to be knighted).

But if we have to have one, I think she is brilliant at it and whoever is doing Will and her PR at the moment deserves a medal and a large drink.

SenecaFalls · 16/10/2019 21:32

I know that Anne has been to Africa, but I'm not sure how recently.

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 16/10/2019 21:49

Max tonight

Spudlet · 16/10/2019 21:50

Anne goes abroad with her charities sometimes. Former colleague who worked for Save the Children ended up in a Landy somewhere in Africa with her once - apparently she wasn’t terribly impressed by the driver’s skills Grin

Spudlet · 16/10/2019 21:54

Wetdogs I don’t dislike Kate’s outfit either. Not sure about the top half (although I like the scarf over the shoulder) but I quite like the skirt and boots Blush

Love those photos of Princess Anne. In the first one, I like to think that is the look she gives to someone mansplaining - in this case, perhaps the chap with the beard. Grin

AudacityOfHope · 16/10/2019 22:15

I have a random question for you regulars: do you find these royal threads drop out of your Threads I'm On quite often?

They disappear from my threads list all the time, even when they're the one I've commented on most recently.

Makes me wonder if MN want to keep these threads out of the limelight, although I do see them come up on Active Threads often right enough.

Just curious Grin

derxa · 16/10/2019 22:18

Is that Val Singleton in the black and white photo?

AppleKatie · 16/10/2019 22:21

No, since I joined it’s been reliably ‘there’. I don’t think the algorithm or whatever that keeps the site working can play favourites or political games like that.

You can adjust how longs thing stay around for on your settings though I think.

UrsulaPandress · 16/10/2019 22:24

My TIO only stay active for about 5 days. If I haven’t posted for a while they disappear. This has happened since I had to re register after the security issue.

Onprozacandmyhighhorse · 16/10/2019 22:27

It is Valerie Singleton. I remember it was a Blue Peter expedition or something back in the early 70s when they went to Kenya. Used to love Blue Peter!

AudacityOfHope · 16/10/2019 22:29

It's not showing in my threads now and I only posted five minutes ago. It's the only one it ever happens with. Very odd!

frugalkitty · 16/10/2019 22:32

I don't like anything about Kate's brown ensemble today, she looks like she got dressed in the dark after rummaging in her Nan's wardrobe. Sorry, I don't like to be Negative Nora, but bleugh Blush

mathanxiety · 16/10/2019 22:33

LOL at 'mansplaining'.

The woman leaning on the desk in that photo of Princess Anne is giving her the eyeroll of death. The other woman looks as if she is being polite and restrained and biting her tongue quite painfully.

Maybe the 'mansplaining' is an effort to tactfully correct a Royal Misapprehension without making the kind of eye contact that would betray the true feelings of the speaker?
Grin

Becles · 16/10/2019 22:49

@AudacityOfHope I 'watch' each thread as I kept losing threads I was on. Much more reliable.
