Princess Anne was quite fashionable in her youth and on the cover of Vogue. That doesn't seem to me like someone who DGAF about S&B!! I think she does like clothes and has kept hold of the ones she's liked the best.

The bouffant hair is a different story altogether!

When is a trouser a cullote? Is it the length? I would say she's wearing trousers as culottes should be above the ankle. Happy to be corrected.

QueenOfTheAndals · 09/10/2019 16:34

I thought culottes referred to the width of the leg and were trousers that were so wide you might think they were a skirt?

Oh yes she was very fashionable (and quite striking, IMO)! I agree, it’s not that she dgaf about S&B, but I think she has the right attitude of ‘this is me and this what I like; you are free to like or dislike it, idgaf.’

Spudlet · 09/10/2019 16:36

I always thought of culottes as being more like shorts - very wide and flappy ones. I had a pair when I was about 10. I did not like them at all!

Ninkaninus · 09/10/2019 16:36

Yes I’ve always used it that way - culottes are the voluminous ones that could be mistaken for a skirt.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/10/2019 16:36

I think the problem with Anne's hair is its condition, it looks nice and clean but a bit frazzled. I love her commitment to wearing what she likes, that shows a level of confidence I've never had.

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 09/10/2019 16:37

Not loving the trews but the rest is lovely. I agree those full length black ones we've seen before would be far more stylish (IMHO)!

Spudlet · 09/10/2019 16:48

I can’t deny though that the wider leg trousers look is having an effect on me though... I’ve seen a job I plan to apply for and if I get an interview I think I’ll be getting myself a pair of wide leg trousers to wear. Not culottes though!

RoseQuartzGlow · 09/10/2019 16:52

I like the bag but £3,000 for a bag!!
I actually really like her outfit today. Love the colours especially. Her shoes are fab!
I absolutely love her hair. She just wouldn’t look the same without her hair and I certainly don’t think she’s too old for long hair! She’s only in her thirties, not sixties...

RoseQuartzGlow · 09/10/2019 16:54

Anne has looked quite drab and dated for most of her adult life. She doesn’t care about fashion, and I think that’s something to admire really. She’s about substance not style.

frugalkitty · 09/10/2019 17:04

I didn't like the jumper tucked in today, although I did like the jumper itself. What I really didn't like was the elasticated waistband on show at the back, who does that? Very odd. Especially as if there's anyone in the world not in need of elasticated waist trousers it's Kate.

frugalkitty · 09/10/2019 17:05

Oh, and I agree that culottes are trousers that look like a skirt. Kate was in wide legged trousers today.

itswinetime · 09/10/2019 17:08

Just watched the videos of Kate today and agree with whoever said when she's moving the trousers don't look so bad but when she stops or you see a still they fall at just the wrong place a bit long for culottes but a bit short for full length. They look a bit like trousers that have shrunk in the wash.

paradyning · 09/10/2019 17:09

I'm sorry. I said I wouldn't comment but those trousers are hideous.
See what you mean about the visible elastic pp.

paradyning · 09/10/2019 17:20

It's as if whoever was doing her wardrobe had a paper doll dress up set and accidentally chose the wrong trousers. If you blank those out the look and her hair etc is immaculate.

TSSDNCOP · 09/10/2019 17:23

Love the outfit. Most shops are selling trousers with an elastic waistband, it’s quite the thing evidence Whistles, M&S, Cos, Uniqlo, French Connection, Hush. Love the shoes, the jumper and bag and if I could pull off that style trousers I’d have them too.

justasking111 · 09/10/2019 17:25

I tried a pair of trousers like these on as a shrimp I looked daft in them.

paradyning · 09/10/2019 17:26

But do you think those colours go together? I personally don't think those tones are complementary.

TSSDNCOP · 09/10/2019 17:28

Yes I do think they go. It would’ve looked so dull if she’d pulled out black trousers.

Ninkaninus · 09/10/2019 17:33

The colours go together beautifully, IMO and it’s a combo I often wear. I agree it would have been awfully dull and predictable with black trousers.

Olive and warm greens, burgundy, berry, navy, petrol, rust, mustard yellow, dark red, browns and warm beiges all go together very well. In my book it’s the perfect autumnal palette!

Doyoureallyneedtoask · 09/10/2019 17:33

But do you think those colours go together?

They are colours born to be together. They absolutely go together.

Ninkaninus · 09/10/2019 17:37

Oh and I forgot warm pinky nudes! They look really quite good with this palette.

paradyning · 09/10/2019 17:41

I know red and green go together but those tones?
I just can't see it.

Ninkaninus · 09/10/2019 17:45

Must add, though, that I do like black/burgundy too. It’s a classic combo for a reason and nothing at all wrong with it, it’s just Kate is a little on the safe and predictable side anyway and I’m always happy whenever she goes a little more unexpected!

If she had gone one more step toward daring and paired it with navy/burgundy/mustard tones in her shoes I would have actually jumped up and down and applauded! Grin Wink. Although there was a bit of red in there and she got an imaginary fist pump for that!
