Thanks for mentioning- it's always comforting to hear from other parents.
He is now in a local maintained SEN primary. It's excellent. Couldn't be happier with it. It's a generic special school but classes are well-matched to peer group. Staff etc are amazing
The LA were insistent he would stay in mainstream school where he was suffering with huge anxiety and his learning disabilities alongside his ASD couldn't be met.
He has some sensory needs and motor issues too which the environment at mainstream could not accommodate.
We spent a year and £000s on private reports and evidence to build a case. They eventually conceded when his old school had to admit that they couldn't meet need.
We had 15 versions of an EHCP, and paid for 2 OT assessments and an Ed Psych.
We were due at Tribunal in London in October.
Frankly we are lucky - but it makes my blood boil that families are put through this sort of crap and pressure to get what disabled kids are entitled too by law. It is a huge wrong that families without our resources are in situations where their kids suffer mental health crises and are left to suffer in schools that cannot meet need. It's not the fault of schools at all, in some ways despite everything I can understand the cash strapped local authorities taking this position.
The blame lies squarely with central government and it's austerity agenda cutting these services to the bone.
The knock on effect is horrendous and also taxpayers money has been wasted too ( as the Local Authorities use in-house lawyers to defend any cases that will cost the LA more).
It's really disgusting.
Sorry for the rant.
