M&S Beauty Advent Calendar 2019

Starting a thread to discuss the contents as we hit December.

Who is getting this one this year?

This was my very first beauty calendar last year and it’s definitely got me addicted. I loved it!

This year you can order the calendar from 31st October. Price is £40 when you spend £25 at M&S. Contents are worth over £300.

If you do want to know the full contents you can find them over at ReallyRee (SPOLIERS!).

Please don’t discuss the contents ahead of time on here as most people don’t want to know (or as in my case, read then forget!).

I've only tried the hair product so far as waiting until washed hair and finished off eye cream, etc that is nearly done.

Happy with hair. Looks better.

Happy with everything. Love the treat every day. Never had an advent calendar as a kid, never spent Christmas with parents and had most of my presents I did get nicked so I am never going to be disappointed with an M&S beauty calendar. DH already said he'll refill it for me for next year and get me another full one.

LEELULUMPKIN · 05/12/2019 09:48

Awww, that's lovely Sunshine. So glad it is making such grey days happier for you.

mammmamia · 05/12/2019 09:55

Not disappointed as such because the products are lovely but just not stuff I will use! Hoping for a face cream, hand cream, make up, nail varnish.

Bansku19 · 05/12/2019 09:56

I just ran out of night cream samples so this new one came in right time.

I tried the hair product but noticed that my got greasy faster. I don't need to use leave on conditioners anyway. I think I save it for dd hair when it's knotty after swimming.

Beadstar · 05/12/2019 09:59

I’m very happy with today’s, I love a night cream and I used to use the whole range many years ago and forgot about it really.

I’m very impressed with the calendar so far.

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 05/12/2019 10:00

Not tried the mascara yet but loving everything else so far!

Dobby I wouldn’t expect the cleanser to remove eye make up to be honest, it’s more of a skin cleanser rather than a make up remover. Personally I’d get the worst of your make up off with a dedicated make up remover before going in with the cleanser.

I definitely have radiator face too Grin

eatsleepmoverepeat · 05/12/2019 10:07

I didn’t get M&S last year and like @kjhkj I think this year is a definite step up in quality to what I remember. Today’s is 30ml which is much better than the 10ml of REN products I’ve had previously. I’ve just opened a new night cream but if this helps radiator face I might need to get it started ASAP

KeithPartridge · 05/12/2019 11:43

Ren is my favourite brand so this is brilliant!

CointreauVersial · 05/12/2019 12:26

Pleased with today's offering - night cream is something I use regularly, so will use this once my current jar is empty.

I also used the Aveda hair stuff this morning, instead of my usual hair oil (have bone-dry greying hair). It was a bit tricky working out how much to use, so I went for a similar amount that I would nomally use of hair oil, and just applied it to the lengths/ends. It left my hair nicely swishy, but it wasn't a major improvement over what I use currently. And it didn't smell very nice. So I will use it up, but not repurchase.

I've also been using the lip & eye cream, just on my lips for now. It's nice to use in the mornings, as it soaks in before I come to apply make-up - the trouble with lip balm is that iyou can't really put lipstick on top without it sliding straight off again.

Beadstar · 05/12/2019 12:47

I think you’re supposed to use the eye/ lip balm around the lips, not on them. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

CointreauVersial · 05/12/2019 12:51

Well, that's what I did, rubbed it on the edge of my lips. But if I'd used a lip balm the same way I'd have a big, greasy smile.

Sammi38 · 05/12/2019 12:55

Think the lip cream is to target ‘smokers lines’. I’ve been using it, just lips, not eyes and it’s quite nice, doesn’t feel too sticky or heavy. I don’t have the vertical lines yet, but a bit of prevention doesn’t hurt.

Xanadu58 · 05/12/2019 13:28

Loving the calendar so far , but I wish there wasn't the little clues on some of the boxes that give you a hint to what's inside. I'd prefer to be completely surprised !

Batshittery · 05/12/2019 16:14

I was excited to get a night cream today as I was looking for one in my cupboards. Im not overly keen on REN brand for my skin. I have just washed my face and put some on and sadly I'm disappointed. I don't like the texture and my face still feels dry. Oh, well. It's the only thing I've not really liked so far. I am using the eye cream only on my eyes and I'm very pleased with it. Crown Smile

SunshineCake · 05/12/2019 17:16

Thank you @LEELULUMPKIN. It was a very lovely Christmas day when dh got me a stocking once he knew I hadn't had one.

Apologies if I put a downer on this lovely thread or annoyed anyone with my post. I was -am- feeling very emotional this morning.

SunshineCake · 05/12/2019 17:22

Upside of terrible eyesight I can't read the clues on the outside but easy enough to avoid.

Creas35 · 05/12/2019 17:27

My first year getting a calendar and I am loving it, I’m forcing myself to use everything and not give away or leave and forget about as I don’t use much product. I’ve used everything except the night cream which will be later. I am really enjoying having all the little things to try and do not regret getting one.

ajandjjmum · 05/12/2019 17:52

Me neither Sunshine! Grin

TheMostHappy · 05/12/2019 19:06

This is the first year I have ever had a beauty calendar and I'm very impressed with it so far. I was really impressed with the Aveda damage remedy as my hair dresser is always trying to up sell that to me and I love the lip and eye treatment. Haven't tried the mascara yet.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/12/2019 19:12

@SpuriouserAndSpuriouser

A cleanser is by definition there to clean. So remove make up is something it should do. A make up remover is a cleanser...no?

Beauty Therapist for 20 years and not heard that one before!

eatsleepmoverepeat · 05/12/2019 19:40

@DobbyTheHouseElk you’re supposed to take your makeup off first so the cleanser can get to your skin. I double cleanse - once to take off makeup and once to get my skin clean. It’s a fairly common concept

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/12/2019 20:00

Yes, I know. But what I’m saying is it didn’t work as well as my normal cleanser. That’s all. Normal one removes more.

Calm your beans!!!!

DobbyTheHouseElk · 05/12/2019 20:01

@eatsleepmoverepeat did you read my earlier post?

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 05/12/2019 20:20

DobbyTheHouseElk To be honest in my head they are different. I guess I have just always used a dedicated eye make-up remover/balm/oil or whatever to get my eye make-up off, I would never use a gel or milk cleanser to do that. I appreciate that a lot of people might, I just personally wouldn’t expect it to be that effective, especially if I was wearing quite heavy make-up. But again that’s just my opinion, I’m not trying to cause any upset.

eatsleepmoverepeat · 05/12/2019 21:07

@DobbyTheHouseElk I did read your post yes. And I’ve not tried the cleanser yet but I wouldn’t personally expect any cleanser to fully remove my makeup. We’ve obviously got a different view.
