Great shopping btw can see you in the dress

Applefairy · 05/01/2020 07:27

I like the shearling ones better Shop as more texture contrast.

I am going to see how this dress looks when it arrives with these boots. Hem will have to go up for my proportions. Boots are also an experiment as I’m stumpy of leg. Mara linked some black common project ones a while ago and I have not got them out of my head since.

I need a style refresh (it’s why I ordered the jeans) but it’s hard as I get older to not look frumpy / ‘try hard’ in current trends. Eg for me florals and midi length is a challenge as I’m classic / dramatic and short/busty and not thin. No high necklines /ditzy floral prints for me !

I do have a dark brownish/navy floral dress from mango that works well atm. I have some block heeled navy suede GRs that ‘ground’ and prevent it from being too girly. Also a Chloé floral dress that I love for its autumnal colours (linked a while ago).

Someone linked an article re dark florals being the new Breton stripes and I really agree with this ... after many years of high rotation my faithful stripes are taking a back seat atm.

Applefairy · 05/01/2020 07:30

That navy sequin skirt is gorgeous. Lucky it is sold out in my size!

libertyonhertravels · 05/01/2020 07:41

Just quick pop in to say loving all the links. Especially keen to hear shop's feedback on the Grensons.

Kitty so sorry to hear about your dfil. Hope you are all doing ok.

Sorry for lack of chat / links. I had a terrible NY for various reasons. Life very difficult ATM. Helps to check in here even if I am not posting much.

kittyhello · 05/01/2020 09:06

Oh Lib sorry to hear you're going through a tough time Thanks hope the frivolous fashion chat/musings and links can help lift your spirits somewhat. xx

DryWhiteagainW · 05/01/2020 09:09

Must be something similar on the high st

Sorry, hadn’t refreshed from last night....that was for Shop re the jeans in the Instagram photo.

Interesting re Jean question too.....Times mag yesterday said skinnies are still in, labelled as “office leggings” and always to be worn with heels.

Apple I am classic dramatic too and know what you mean about trends and age / trying too hard. I am starting to struggle and increasingly am not liking what I see in the mirror which is hard as historically I’ve never been too body / face conscious. Never really loved myself either but just wasn’t obsessed IYSWIM. Now I keep catching sight of myself and my saggy jawline and feel very mumsy and can’t work out what direction to go in.
Lib always here Flowers

MrCollins · 05/01/2020 10:37

That's a really good point about florals and Breton Apple. I avoided Breton for years until a few years ago as I was convinced they wouldn't suit me. Finally caught the end of the trend (sooo meHmm) and realised I had been missing out. I have taken the plunge with a couple of Ted Baker dresses including this floral print skirted dress which really suits me. Mara links some amazing florals and I Am still geeing up the nerve for florals on the top half though!

LibThanks

Shop, you're being very hard on yourself! Thanks

shopafrolic · 05/01/2020 10:57

MrC I think it’s all tied in with a period of change. Now that DF has gone I need to find my purpose. Perhaps when I do that I’ll like what I see in the mirror a bit more. Right now though my skin is awful, I have issues with my wrists and joints and I’m so tired all the time. Seeing consultant again on the 14th so hopefully upwards from there.

Applefairy · 05/01/2020 12:00

Grief is exhausting ...be kind to yourself Shop Flowers. I’ve pm’d you Lib.

I started lurking on these threads when you were ‘Avid and Wise’ - I was in a real slump, newly single, post children body, back at work, gained weight, nothing fit, work clothes all pre kids and dated, no time to look nice, perpetually tired, limited finances etc.

You amazing voguettes, without knowing it, all helped me to get my fashion mojo back. Your passion for your own style inspired something in me and I was able to reinvent myself and look forward to my future Star

Thank you to all of you - those who haven’t posted for a while I hope you are still around Flowers

shopafrolic · 05/01/2020 13:22

Your post made me smile Apple I hadn’t realised you’d been around since the start.

kittyhello · 05/01/2020 15:12

Even though I'm not one of the originals Apple I hear you loud and clear. I dread to think what I'd be wearing if it wasn't for this thread. I lost myself and my identity majorly after dc and was on the cusp of buying a floral Fat Face tunic to wear with leggings and Fly London boots - the staple MN uniform circa 2004.

At the time I was in a park with the dc admiring a woman's Chloe Marcie bag and I thought damn it I'm not going down that safe dressing route, it's not me. I still like nice things.

Then I found this fabulous thread and the rest is history. It woke me up, made me dump my boot cut jeans and reignited my love of clothes and of course have met and enjoyed the company of the most wonderful women - which is the best part of course.

DryWhiteagainW · 05/01/2020 15:58

Oh my god this is great!
Me too. I’ve always “struggled” to accept my clothes image. I’m classic/groomed tbh but when I see links of pictures of items that suit different dressing styles I get influenced to try and make terrible mistakes. I need to give myself strong talking tos occasionally (I’ll never ever do rock chic or unstructured well for example)
This thread for me keeps me on the straight and narrow and gives me inspiration (and I just copy Kitty who loves camel and black and animal print, MrC similar sructured styl I think,, and Shop when she tells me to buy or not to buy Grin )
I’m so chuffed that we’ve started the new year with lots of chat. I know life gets in the way of fashion chat but I’d be so sad (and look like a sack of spuds) without you lot.

OMG look at the name of these boots I need them in my life Grin

Loving all this positivity. I was starting to worry that MNV was dying and had messaged some of the Voguettes to say should we call it quits and shut it down. I’m glad we haven’t. It forces me to make an effort (although you wouldn’t believe it if you saw me today) and stops me from getting stuck in a rut. The friendships are an absolute double layer of icing on the top. You girls have helped me through so much over the years and I’ll be forever grateful.
Grenson Nanette are due tomorrow. There is an article about them in Stella today apparently. I am slightly concerned they’ll be everywhere. Will share pics.

shopafrolic · 05/01/2020 16:10

Those would be brill for you even if they weren’t called that Dry

kittyhello · 05/01/2020 16:15

Will be interested to hear feedback about the Grenson's Shop I love them but they so aren't me. I'm like Dry in that I love things I can't wear and have to stop myself from buying. Thanks to this thread I make less mistakes and less impulse buys.

Dry great classic boots and love them as much as MrC's

VivaVegas · 05/01/2020 16:37

I'd be sad if the thread went, it's helped me escape from my real life rubbish on many occasions!
I think we can be hard on ourselves when we get to a certain age, we need to embrace it but it's easier said than done!
Trying to reign in my spending as personal circumstances are now finalising and I'll have less free cash but did buy this lovely Mint Velvet jumper looks fab with pleather skinnies and chunky black boots - sadly from Tesco and not Grensons!

shopafrolic · 05/01/2020 16:39

Love that sweater Viva - very nice

DryWhiteagainW · 05/01/2020 17:17

Prefer MrC’s tbh

Themarvellousmrsm · 05/01/2020 17:26

Oh god we can't shut this thread down-not posted much recently due to 'stuff' but love reading about everyone's differing styles and purchases and the fact that you're all so non judgmental and positive.

I've always loved clothes but not always got it right and am definitely not body confident and as styles change quite often feel 'too old/too frumpy' blah blah blah but you lovely lot really help.

Think we need another mu!

DryWhiteagainW · 05/01/2020 17:42

I’m going to look like Nikki this spring

OP posts:
MarshaBradyo · 05/01/2020 17:43

Posting quickly, will catch up, but yes to MU maybe summer one!

MrCollins · 05/01/2020 19:03

I love that look Dry. It's very me. And you.Grin.

I have flirted with getting those ballet pumps over the years but always thought it might be "too classic" on me, if there is such a thing. I think you will look fabulous in them!

Apple, Kitty and mrsm your posts about the impact of the thread on you are so heartwarming.
