The luggage for the royals can be brought up in advance for the queen, kate etc. Then they can fly easy jet whatever keep below luggage allowances and their stuff makes its way up by road.

Does anyone know how the queen makes her way to Balmoral?

ajandjjmum · 25/08/2019 19:06

I hope she gets taken door to door in a helicopter - if I'm still working at 93 I shall expect perks like that! Especially as she had to wait in London while Parliament carried on playing it's silly games.

AdaColeman · 25/08/2019 19:34

That would make good use of the Royal Train, she could travel a long journey in comfort, all guests could send their luggage in advance on it. She could wave from the train to the peasants in the fields.
Job done!

MollyButton · 25/08/2019 21:22

Balmoral itself is often colder than around - it is in a "frost pocket" and I have distinct memories of feeling cold there compared to Ballater for example. (Never been to the Castle itself, but do have fond memories of the area.)

TSSDNCOP · 25/08/2019 21:31

She could wave from the train to the peasants in the fields.

Why would she do that? She has excellent manners, and there does seem to be a shortage of peasants these days.

Thanks for that IG link. Among all those frocks, I think this is particularly stunning on Leti (and would suit Meghan - yes I'm back on that hobby horse).

Gosh yes been to Ballater ...absolutely lovely

AppleKatie · 25/08/2019 22:33

22/23 outside and seated still for ages inside a cold church I think the coat makes much more sense. I’m sure she changed when she got back 😂

paradyning · 25/08/2019 22:42

It just looked like dark heavy wool. I'm sweltering in a 32 degree bedroom and can't imagine it.

AppleKatie · 25/08/2019 22:43

Begs the question of what she’s —not— wearing underneath it 🤣😱😬

Gooseysgirl · 25/08/2019 23:36

Hmmm... I just think it's a very odd colour and texture to wear at this time of year (even if it's cold), and I wonder did she have much advance notice that she would be attending church this weekend... the cynic in me agrees that the larger number at church this weekend is an attempt to detract attention from Andrew.

QueenOfTheAndals · 25/08/2019 23:46

I think it's a safe assumption to make that if you visit Balmoral then you'll be attending church at some point!

Surely if they are there they go. I doubt attending church when staying with the queen is ever optional.

Does William go when not staying with the queen I wonder. He will be head of the cofe eventually after all.

SenecaFalls · 26/08/2019 02:14

He will be head of the cofe eventually after all.

Perhaps the Church of England will be disestablished by then.

TipseyTorvey · 26/08/2019 06:56

More stuff in the papers today about Andrew being part of a passenger list in epsteins private plane to the island. The press are not letting go of this story. I wonder what will happen if more comes out? Will he have to attend the trial?

Rhubarbisevil · 26/08/2019 07:03

We all tell our children not to get in a car with people they don’t know, so why was Andrew allowed to get in a plane with a man he “barely” knew Hmm

paradyning · 26/08/2019 07:23

Looks like Kate had the peacock feather print dress on underneath that coat.

lavenderandthyme · 26/08/2019 07:44

There is no way Andrew is going to be properly held to account. The Powers That Be will see to that!

Disfordarkchocolate · 26/08/2019 08:53

I think the coat is on because it's what everyone wears when they go to church with the Queen. As she's Head of the Church of England it's bound to be more formal than a normal Sunday service.

paradyning · 26/08/2019 09:10

I guess she could have worn a lighter colour/material.
Maybe she feels the cold a lot. I have an infinite larger amount of padding on my body than she does and so always hot!

banivani · 26/08/2019 10:12

Hone your language skills with this clip of Prince Daniel talking about how his life has improved after getting a kidney transplant and how we as a society need to do more to ensure that more people donate their organs.

LadyCassandra · 26/08/2019 12:07

I don’t think the press should let go of this story. They have hounded Megan for minor issues that are mainly around her/Harry being tone deaf, or her not knowing the “Royal” way of things.
I saw this on Twitter recently, pretty much sums it up.

Kate was wearing the peacock Michael Kors underneath apparently

drquin · 26/08/2019 12:21

@Myimaginarycathasfleas even if inappropriately dressed, Kate would have coped with the walk from car to church ..... it's about 3 steps, maybe 10 if you're the "wrong" side of the car and have to walk around the back of it. Private entrance to the church, car parked right at the door.

@justasking111 HMQ usually arrives in to Aberdeen Airport on a private flight, and picked up by car for the hour-ish road journey.

SenecaFalls · 26/08/2019 13:43

As she's Head of the Church of England it's bound to be more formal than a normal Sunday service.

It was a Church of Scotland service at Crathie Kirk. She is not head of the Church of Scotland.
