Is there a pair of stylish trainers on the face of this earth that is actually COMFORTABLE?

I'm really struggling to find the holy grail of trainers that are comfortable that are not sporty. I'm looking for fairly delicate fashion-type trainers to wear with leggings and dresses.

I've wasted loads of time and money this year with ones that turn out to be uncomfortable. I just bought VeJas for £££ and thought they might break in but 6 weeks later they are still like big clumpy bricks. I had Vionics last year which were great to wear but fell apart in 6 months, which for £100 was gutting.

Not converse - I need a bit of support or cushioning. Not Nike or anything because I don't want a sporty look. Sketchers? Are they not fashionable? At this stage I'm ready to try anything.

Size 5 or 5.5 with wide feet. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.

@Fatted - it can also be the opposite problem. I have incredibly high arches that make a lot of trainers really tight over the bridge of the foot, and causes underpronation so the sides and heels rub badly.

Adidas Stan Smith, Gazelle or Superstar. All super comfy and stylish. Perhaps not so 'delicate', but I have multiple pairs of all three and I really do love them all.

"I don’t think sketchers are at all fashionable"

I doubt that they ever will be, but I have found that nothing (apart from my Nike trainers) matches up to the comfort of Sketchers. They are my go to for walking around sightseeing on holiday, and were invaluable when we went to Orlando.

Allbirds are true to size, I’m a 3 and there 36 was perfect.

The first time I wore them I didn’t wear socks and got a blister, I was totally gutted as this is why I liked the look of them, anyway I wore them with socks a few times and then without and they were perfect!

I don’t usually wear trainers but they have converted me, they go with everything

pongopig · 10/08/2019 10:19

Woden Ydun trainers - I didn’t need to break these in at all, so comfortable!

CalamityJune · 10/08/2019 10:20

I love my New Balance trainers

64sNewName · 10/08/2019 10:21

These Novesta ones are good for wide feet and have good support. I’m really happy with them.

They fit true to size. I have wide feet so I just don't lace them as tightly. I only wear socks with mine in the winter, and I have never had a blister. They are like wearing the nicest slippers.

motheroftinydragons · 10/08/2019 10:29

I love my Superga trainers, I've got three colours! They're much wider fitting than Converse.

yellowallpaper · 10/08/2019 10:42

I love my sketchers. So comfortable and not too sporty looking.

Esto · 10/08/2019 12:36

Thank you all so much for the responses and ideas. I'm going to look at them all. I've had a look at the allbirds site, it looks perfect but I have been burned with buying online... I might just try them anyway.

I like a low-profile look, and I like them to be lightweight. I looked at supergas but they seemed so heavy in my hands. Maybe they are not once they're on.

Converse star courts also look good. Part of my issue is being able to try stuff on - I can shop in the nearest city where I work, but I don't have loads of time available. I've ended up ordering online and it's not been working out too well...

Thanks again everyone.

Woden, haven’t read the thread but they are brilliant and comfortable

SeaViewBliss · 10/08/2019 13:18

Converse Star Court are £30 in the sports direct sale if anyone’s looking for a pair.

drspouse · 10/08/2019 13:18

I love Superga but I didn't really think of them as trainers.

SyrilSneer · 10/08/2019 13:21

I find the Adidas Gazelles are very comfortable and look good with skirts and dresses. I have a mint green pair. ASOS often have them in sale section as Adidas release so many different colours a season.

PinkSubscriber · 10/08/2019 13:26

Ugg trainers. Really soft leather and very soft cushioned sole. I’ve got loads of trainers but they are the comfiest and not sporty.

PepperOnMyPaprikash · 10/08/2019 13:28

@toomuchlikemyusername - What is the sizing like in the Converse star court? I am a 37 in Superga and generally wear a UK4 in shoes/boots but I know trainers can come up small.

Air and Grace - so comfy

MerryDeath · 10/08/2019 14:53

bloody vejas are bullshit! like wearing an old hard pair of flippers. i've ordered a pair of cariumas but they were in singapore last time i checked but I'm hoping for better things!!

Esto · 10/08/2019 14:57

Air and Grace look great but so expensive. Do they last?

Skechers fans... are there any you can wear with no socks and your feet don't stink? With a breathable insole?

thethoughtfox · 10/08/2019 15:44

I bought white Superga after seeing a feature on celebrities traveling looking stylish. They are not bulky and look fresh. They go with everything and were instantly comfortable.

toomuchlikemyusername · 10/08/2019 15:49

@PepperOnMyPaprikash
I find they are true to size. I generally wear a 6 (or that's my usual starting point) and find a size 6 In these to be a comfortable fit.
