Styled by Susie - anyone done it?

Hi all, I've been following the tribe group on Facebook for a while but just wondering if anyone here has tried it. I can't seem to get to the bottom of what they advise, seasons etc. Is there something similar closer to London. And she keeps advising chunky trainers, is this a thing now?

Tattle

Ironfloor269 · 04/08/2020 08:24

@stopfundinghate

Susie is a pear

I agree about the lipsticks, those two stylists always choose colours that don't suit them. Sbs always says you can wear what you like I thought I was a bit mad thinking it didn't suit them though!

I noticed the insta post about the bra service has one comment about boob or bust. Comments are disabled now. Perhaps we can all 'love' that post?! :D

Tatler is horrible. I don't think she deserves to be on there

Commenting is not disabled on the Facebook group post though. Which is how I was able to ask my question.
ilovecherries · 04/08/2020 08:39

You know, I’ve said on this thread that I didn’t think my analysis was great, that my shape was def wrong, and that I didn’t like that the only question I asked re clarifying that wasn’t allowed. So it’s not a service I would recommend, although I can see a lot of women love it and appear to have benefitted from it.

But I think the Tattle thread is unfair, unkind and frankly downright nasty, and this one is veering into similar territory at times. There is no justification for it and Susie doesn’t actually even meet Tattle’s own criteria, which apparently is to ‘allow commentary and critiques of people that choose to monetise their personal life as a business and release it into the public domain’. One of the things I DO admire about Susie is that she doesn’t allow her child, her husband or her home to be used to boost her profile. And while she uses a lot of fast fashion she also doesn’t do streams of #gifted.

I don’t care for her personal style, but I do admire that she wears what she likes. I don’t care for a lot of the styles that I see HoC stylists wearing either, and I had a totally crappy colour analysis from them, at a much higher price point. But picking over everything she does and making vey personal comments about her and the other stylists doesn’t feel right to me. I would hate to come on mumsnet or Tattle and find a thread that discussed me like this. While I do agree there are points made her that she could learn from in terms of her business, there is a lot of gratuitous unpleasantness as well.

WowStarsWow · 04/08/2020 09:33

I don't follow Susie on instagram so don't know what she posts on there, but she does do that as well as the facebook group and her blog. Just because she doesn't share every aspect of her personal life, she's still monetising herself and I think that qualifies her for Tattle. And she may not do affiliate links or #ads, but she does:

 • sneakily promote friends' brands
 • promote fast fashion
 • block discussions on ethical issues
 • bring her personal issues (anxiety etc) into the group
 • invite critique of her style (by being a stylist) while also not allowing it on her platform
SadiePurple · 04/08/2020 10:05

@QueenCT

Muted colours I tend to be drawn to Pic for colouring.. i burn, never tan and don't ever wear pastels/orange/red or yellow. Drawn to grey, navy/blues/greens mostly

You remind me of Christina Hendricks/ Joan from Mad Men.
In Mad Men she's usually wearing bright jewel colours, and cool toned lipstick.

I agree with all these points, and let's not forget she gets paid to write for the Daily Mail.

She is charging people for a service that she and staff are not delivering properly. They frequently post photos on social media of themselves wearing the wrong clothes and or colours! A lot of the problems with Susie's personal style (forgetting the awful accessories) is that she is dressing for the wrong shape.

Agreed!

Alongcameacat · 04/08/2020 13:51

I’d love to get my colours done too. I am pale (pasty), skin burns, pale blue eyes. I wear muted greens, greys, blacks (although I shouldn’t) and the nicest colours on me (that I feel best in) are jewel blue and cool red. I can’t wear cream but can wear white. I remember reading that whether white or cream suit you is some way of defining seasons but I can’t remember what season.

It is hard to figure out less obvious seasons. I find foundation particularly hard and like a PP, MAC assistants have discussed it and tried so many shades unsuccessfully. My heck is vampire white but white makeup makes me look like a goth. I was told the last time that I should wear fake tan to get a match!

DontBeShelfish · 04/08/2020 14:20
@DontBeShelfish Emily Innes is often wearing the wrong colours, that lipstick she is wearing in the last post blatantly does not suit her. I would find another style icon!

Another shocking glasses analysis today, the poor woman!

And Susie is not an hourglass! If they can't get their own shapes right, then what hope is there for paying customers sending photos in??
Haha trust me, I'm trying! 😂

The above reply is so unprofessional. I don’t understand how she has grown. I can only imagine she is a completely unqualified Istagrammer whose home business took off for some reason or other and she ran with it despite not having the ability and skills to do it. She probably believes her own hype?

weareyoung · 04/08/2020 15:18

She's grown because she doesn't allow, through choice, the replies such as the one posted by @Oopsadaisydoddle to enter the public domain.

She absolutely does qualify for a Tattle thread. However, I despise personal and hateful comments (about anyone).

I actually think this thread has been quite tame for Mumsnet. I feel for Susie that discussion about her and her business has now moved to Tattle. And the sad thing is that it could all have been avoided if she had the sense to professionally engage with those who don't feel her services have hit the mark, for whatever reason.

ohmygiddiest · 04/08/2020 15:18

Sorry to hear that you received those awful communications @Oopsadaisydoddle

I have wondered why nobody has mentioned doing a MCOL, this would be my first port of call if I had paid for a professional service and got a shoddy service performed by amateurs.

TrashPandaTime · 04/08/2020 15:24

That response is shockingly unprofessional.

She’s so defensive and angry. An apology and an explanation that within reason she can’t control who posts in the group would have come across far nicer imo.

And the flouncing! “If you don’t like it then leave!” Wow!

Also a key point here is that hard work does not always mean a good result. So saying she’s sick of justifying her hard work is mad. It’s not any interest of yours @Oopsadaisydoddle that she works so hard, you just wanted a good product/service!

weareyoung · 04/08/2020 15:50

That is shocking.

weareyoung · 04/08/2020 15:50

From someone who claims to empower women...Hmm

TrashPandaTime · 04/08/2020 15:57

@Oopsadaisydoddle I’m so sorry. I can’t believe how much she preaches empowerment of women and the bloody #bekind bollocks, and yet she still treated you so nastily.

ohmygiddiest · 04/08/2020 16:44

That is awful!

All I am saying is that I would pay exactly 99p on a 'buy it now' basis for a PDF of your analysis....

That would really piss her off.

WowStarsWow · 04/08/2020 17:17

She'd probably get onto her lawyers, like she said she was going to do when Pretty Little Thing put "basic bitch" on a sweatshirt but she (thought she) had copyrighted the phrase.

MrsSchadenfreude · 04/08/2020 17:47

A lot of it is a bit “same old, same old”, like put a denim or biker jacket over a dress and wear chunky trainers. A couple of the stylists look good, but one looks like an overgrown toddler on speed - the one who was wearing what looked like a neon pink baby doll nylon nightie and clutching a balloon the other day. A blind woman pulling clothes out of a wardrobe in the dark would have better success at putting together an outfit that looked good.

Crimblecrumblelover · 04/08/2020 18:10

@ilovecherries i agree. I shared my opinion but i think this thread is getting a bit unfair. Like i said I had analysis, it wasnt amazing but there are things i will take from it. It is annoying that people have not been able to give constructive feedback but there seems to be lots of women who are now more confident after their analysis which is a good thing (facebook group).
