I have nothing I like to wear 😭 .. size 16

I dislike the way I look, but am struggling to lose weight, I think partly due to menopause and partly due to various health problems.

I have nothing I look good in Sad In winter it's not so bad, I live in leggings and long tops/ jumpers. But in summer I look awful. I can't find tops that don't emphasise my spare tyre , that are long enough to cover my bum, that don't make my 36g chest look matronly ...

I just bought a dress on eBay (where I mostly shop for financial reasons), it's a loose footing hankie hem, I right it would be better than fitted, but it looks awful Sad.

Please, please help me. I feel so down.

I have a few things I like - a short denim skirt and a short black linen skirt, because my legs aren't bad, I like long loose shirts, but am struggling to find ones that cover my bum.

Any ideas appreciated. Links would be great too. I can't get to a personal shopper service and mostly shop online, as all I have nearby is M&S, Debenhams, New Look, Peacocks, bon marche ...

Speckled on ebay in May the used ones were selling for almost what I paid for my new one last year. Let's hope Next bring it back for 2020

wizzler · 10/08/2019 07:38

And meant to say Adoll if that photo is of you, then you are being very hard on yourself in your op.

Sew3stitch · 10/08/2019 07:51

There has been some excellent advice on this thread and I second @wizzler comment about that photo. I tend to fall down with body self confidence and have found mollyjforbes on Instagram worth a follow - not for clothes ideas but for body confidence aspects.

Best of luck on the clothes hunt!

Deathraystare · 10/08/2019 08:45

because I don't like Anthony much about my body sad

Tell him to stop right now!!!! Or LTB.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/08/2019 08:54

I’ve got loads of those next linen dresses. Not so good this year because they don’t have patch pockets.

StrongTea · 10/08/2019 08:58

Bravissimo also do clothes.

StrongTea · 10/08/2019 09:02

Debenhams have got their final clearance, some super stuff. You are a similar size to me. V necks, shirt necks are great.

feelingverylazytoday · 10/08/2019 09:03

I'm an apple shape. When I was bigger I usually wore maxi dresses in hot weather, or a tunic top over pedal pusher leggings.

Adollop · 10/08/2019 09:34

Deathray didn't notice the typo lol

The photo in the dress was last year, this year my stomach is more pronounced I think - thanks menopause.

I love this - shows off a bit of chest and legs but is loose fitting everywhere else so looks relaxed and is really comfy to wear

SinkGirl · 10/08/2019 09:40

and yes, bravissimo dresses are so good! I bought two in the sale recently - wore one out for dinner recently (first meal out in a year in fact!) and got so many compliments - it made me look at least a size or two smaller

SinkGirl · 10/08/2019 09:43

Also just got this recently - bought a 42 as I normally wear a 14 and it’s comfortably loose so would probably fit a 16, it looks lovely on, looks much nicer on than the photos suggest, but I love a shirt dress. It’s very lightweight so great for summer

Adollop · 10/08/2019 09:47

Thanks Sink. Bravissimo is probably a bit expensive for me, but I'll look on eBay. Not a big fan of shirt dresses unfortunately.

Bravissimo And pepperbery are fantastic for big boobs. I’m a size 16 and 36ff. I’ve bought quite a few things from eBay as they are quite expensive in store. You need to know what size you are eg 16 super curvy or really curvy etc

SinkGirl · 10/08/2019 09:53

Also, have a look at the knitwear in the Phase Eight sale - I’ve found an oversized jumper and then fitted trousers / skinny jeans hides the oversized midsection I’m stuck with since my twins! They have some lightweight and semi sheer ones that work for summer

PaulHollywoodsleftbollockhair · 10/08/2019 10:05

TRy White Company too- very good for apples. Toast also.

Adollop · 10/08/2019 10:54

Yes I like the sound of oversized jumper and skinny jeans. Just can't be wool, as it sets my eczema off!

I'm big busted and have found that its important to have a lower neckline, not too low, as otherwise a high neck just makes my bust sink into my stomach and makes me look like a big round barrel. I tend to wear a lot of high waisted jeans and leggings with a tunic style top or t-shirt and long flowy cardigan which hides the big backside.

Adollop · 10/08/2019 18:03

I've ordered from M&S their relaxed vest top and relaxed tshirt, as a start, to wear with M&S jeggings that I already have, with a white shirt over.

I'll now try and perfect the tuck ...

Always loads of bravissimo stuff on eBay, I got a lovely zip neck tunic
Bought a jacket today from Wallis which is lovely, their camisoles are good (tall range) too tight on my bust but as you're smaller they would work? Size up though

GreyHare · 10/08/2019 22:32

I'm a short dumpy apple, I tend to wear trousers, shell tops with kimonos over, I have two jersey dresses from Marla Wynne, she does great stuff for apples and layering but it's bloody expensive so I tend to buy from eBay, I like the balloon dresses as they hang off the boobs skim the belly but balance out my tooth pick legs.

I have a pair of green combat trousers from next that I roll up the hems and live in with white linen tunic tops from Phase-eight again eBay purchases and wear them with Birkenstocks, I probably look a sight but it's comfy and cool.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 10/08/2019 22:35

Everything @East7thst said. Look for clothes you like, not clothes that hide you.

Go and have a look on Facebook at a page called styled by Susie and the associated group, lots of friendly advice.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 10/08/2019 22:38

I'm an 18 at the mo and live in a couple of dresses (denim midi and a shirt dress in the main), denim shorts, some navy Boden shorts, lightweight shirts tied at the waist, bretons, skinny jeans etc. Have a couple of jumpsuits that I love.

happytobemrsg · 10/08/2019 22:58

100% agree with PPs who suggested you join theStyled By Susie Facebook group. She is wonderful & it’s full of lovely supportive women dressing for their shape. Any talk of weight loss is deleted. It’s about loving who you are & dressing to reflect your personality
