Previous thread. I think we'll be a bit short of royal outfits as they're all off on their holidays atm. But Kate's regatta is coming up next week, hence the thread title!

Same rules as always - keep it light, critique the clothes rather than the women, and don't believe anything printed in the Daily Mail Grin

No I don’t think they could have faked behaving like that yesterday. If they were unhappy it would have been one of them sailing the other watching or at the very least just formal photos together not laughing and joking like that.

If- and it’s a bit if, there was an affair they have clearly decided to move on.

RomaineCalm · 09/08/2019 09:32

- does make me wonder about affair rumours as I just don’t get that vibe from them at all.

Totally agree. If Kate is acting she deserves several Oscars. I don't think you can fake that.

ElspethFlashman · 09/08/2019 10:46

I might be alone but I really dislike the tongue poking-out thing. I find it really bratty. I'd be pretty unimpressed if one of my kids did that at an important function

Oh thank god I thought I was the only one. Everyone online today going "So cute!" and I'm like I would murder my kids if they stuck their tongue out at a crowd. I'd be horrified. But Kate roared laughing! SUCH FUN! No it isn't, it's really bad manners.

RatherBeRiding · 09/08/2019 11:06

Me too! I would have been mortified if one of my DC had behaved like that - let alone a future royal who is inevitably going to be in the public eye a lot, and will have to learn how to interact graciously whether they feel like it or not.

Poor Kate - she was probably mortified too and laughed out of sheer embarrassment.

escapade1234 · 09/08/2019 11:13

I’m sure Kate laughed out of embarrassment. I’d probably laugh too and then have stern words afterwards.

Haworthia · 09/08/2019 11:16

Oh I agree, I think the tongue poking is really horrible and if my child had been prompted to “wave” and did that instead, I would have wanted the ground to swallow me up.

Also makes me think of Louis’ christening when Charlotte told the assembled press “you’re not coming”. I think she might be a little madam on the quiet!

DevonUkelele · 09/08/2019 11:26

Oh phew... thought I was very controversial and had been cut off as a result!

Also this: Also makes me think of Louis’ christening when Charlotte told the assembled press “you’re not coming”. I think she might be a little madam on the quiet!

And William's little chuckle and up-look at the media at the time. Made me wonder about the overheard conversations around the kitchen dining table KP. (Small pitchers and big ears ...).

I get that it must be tough. Awful even. But there is a position that has been bought into.

ElspethFlashman · 09/08/2019 11:34

Yes I thought the "you're not coming" was dreadful too.

I also don't think Kate looked remotely embarrassed, she seemed to think it was priceless. In the video she doesn't even follow her down the stairs, she stays upstairs. So all these people today saying "I'm sure she told her off out of sight!" well, no, I'm not sure of that at all.

But there's nowt so rude as toffs. It's all jolly larks. Margaret and Philip always were rude as fuck and nobody said boo to them. Even Sophie, who looks beatific in public, was once photographed snapping the head off her PPO on the street.

They're really not like the rest of us.

DevonUkelele · 09/08/2019 11:34

BTW and FWIW, I thought Kate looked amazing today. Aced it totally - from turning up looking tanned and overjoyed, to losing like a trooper, to having the kiddies there with Ma and Pa Mids.

Quibbles with the outfits or otherwise (she was smoking in her shorts and sailor skills 🔥🔥), it was a winner. And overall, I'm a total fan.

Just, I'm also a bit of a stickler for occasion. And manners. Maybe I am just crusty 🤔

itswinetime · 09/08/2019 11:49

I'm not sure the younger sticking out was to the crowd it looked to me like Kate was pointing out someone in particular in the crowd 🤷🏻‍♀️

As for is it rude there is a story about when Prince Harry was pictured doing it that actually all the press were doing it to him so who knows why she chose to do it but from Kate's reaction I'm on the side of it was all good fun as opposed to anything else!

Wetdogloveshubert · 09/08/2019 12:24

I agree, @itswinetime! It definitely looks like a point at someone specific, as Kate's aide pointed at someone first, then Kate spotted them, then they waved. It's a specific response, rather than a wave at 'The Crowds'. "You're not coming" was probably a follow-on to a short conversation before the service, with the children forewarned that there would be a couple of people taking pictures, but who wouldn't be coming in - repetition of what they'd heard.

When will we next see any British RF action? I know Charles is in the Highlands, as I missed seeing him by a couple of days Angry

BigGreenOlives · 09/08/2019 12:25

I'll never forget sticking out my tongue at my Granny as we were driving off from her house and getting spanked hard by my mother. Don't think I ever stuck out my tongue and got caught again. I don't think my children ever stuck out their tongues, I'm sure they did other rude things though.

I liked Kate's top yesterday but I think she's probably a bit tall for Sandro, Maje separates, they fit me & DDs very well but we are only 5'6".

Myimaginarycathasfleas · 09/08/2019 12:26

That reminds me of a lovely story about either HM or PM who, when addressed as a "little lady" by a well meaning adult, retorted "I'm not a Lady, I'm a...." at which the QM interjected "No, but we're hoping she will be, one day!"

UrsulaPandress · 09/08/2019 12:34

I'm another who has been surprised by the reaction to the tongue poking - I would have been furious if my DD had ever done that and it strikes me as being incredibly rude.

But I am an old fuddy duddy.

Linseedlill · 09/08/2019 12:35

I think people are reading too much in to the tongue sticking out incident! I'm hot on manners and I would definitely not be impressed if a child of mine did it, but if you see it on the telly, it took place in a matter of seconds behind a glass window, and Kate reacted well, she laughed in shock and swiftly manoeuvred Charlotte out of the way.

Tbh, it must be really hard to have all of your child's misdemeanours recorded forever on film and pretty tough for DC of that age to be constantly followed by paps, so I don't think usual rules apply in this instance and the royal DC deserve a bit of leeway I think.

On the subject of Kate herself, I think she looked amazing on the sailing boat! Really fit and healthy! I wish I could achieve that level of glossiness on the high seas!

AppleKatie · 09/08/2019 12:42

She’s a little girl. Tiny. Rude in a 8-9 year old maybe but she hasn’t even started school yet! It was off the cuff and cute. And I agree I think it was at someone she knows not genetically ‘at the press’.

Linseedlill · 09/08/2019 12:43

Sorry UrsulalPandress X posts! That wasn't a direct response to your post!

I totally agree with you that tongue poking is incredibly rude in ordinary circumstances! But in these particular circumstances, even as an adult, I think I would find it hard to keep my feelings of frustration to myself, given the amount of press interest and ordinary bystanders staring and taking pictures. It must be overwhelming for young DC.

TSSDNCOP · 09/08/2019 12:57

She is 4.

NoTheresa · 09/08/2019 13:05

Princess Charlotte is in danger of fast losing the cuteness factor if she sticks out her tongue like that in public. She is being a brat which is not endearing. She used to be super cute.
Prince George in the other hand is quite the sweet young man. Awww. Love his gappy look!

NoTheresa · 09/08/2019 13:06

Spudlet · 09/08/2019 13:09

Christ on a bike. She’s 4. 4!

itswinetime · 09/08/2019 13:10

Seriously it's a four year old child we have no idea of the context who she was doing it to or why! My niece always sticks her tongue out when she sees me why because I do it to her!! It's not rude it's just a thing we do! We don't know the details of what happened so can we not write off a 4 year old over a five second clip!

NoTheresa · 09/08/2019 13:11

It is rude.

NoTheresa · 09/08/2019 13:13

Re. faking family happiness: no way! They really do not need to act.

AppleKatie · 09/08/2019 13:14

Is it? Really?
